Pattie picked up her suitcase.
George opened the car door. “Don’t go,” he pleaded. “I promise I can make it better.”
Pattie put her hand up to his cheek and held his face for a moment.
“Darling,” she sighed. “I think it’s best I leave.”
“I wish you wouldn’t go.” George took her suitcase and put it in the back seat. “Pattie, this will always be your home. Don’t forget that.”
George held her close. “Are you sure you don’t want me or Terry to drive you?” he asked.
Pattie was already crying. This would have to be good bye.
