i love hans :] - they/he/xe - queer - INFP - 15 - insufferable batman/dc fan - harlivy/batjokes - politics, activism, art

when you call your reps to ask them to pretty please stop taking away your rights, remember:

  • In deep red areas you're a republican who is thinking of voting for someone else if they don't vote what you want on this specific bill because it impacts your republican ideals so very much
  • In swing states you're an undecided voter who's gonna go blue if they don't vote how you like

remember to call because that way their phone is going off and their peers can hear it because their offices are close together (emails and letters don't work like that), so it can rattle them if they get high volumes. remember that you gotta make them feel like they're losing something.

MrBeast being openly and aggressively a trans ally and calling out transphobia bc his bff Chris (any pronouns according to bio) is on HRT and is getting targeted by transphobes was not on my bingo card, but good for them

I have many problems with Mr Jimmy Beast, but his influence is massive. There's no internet micro or macrocelebrity with more power than him at this point. For him to be openly against transphobia is a big deal no matter what.

Like Disney fighting DeSantis.

Really heartening to see Beast and a lot of huge creators defend Chris!

💥🙌👏

Well shit, Henry Jenkins, out here in 1997 dropping truth bombs

Oh hey I need this for a research paper I'm writing, thank you!

i mean he had been out here since 1988 dropping such bombs:

"'fandom' is a vehicle of marginalized subcultural groups (women, the young, gays, etc.) to pry open space for their cultural concerns within dominant representations; it is a way of appropriating media texts and rereading them in a way that serves different interests, a way of transforming mass culture into a popular culture"

Jenkins, Henry. “Star Trek Rerun, Reread, Rewritten: Fan Writing as Textual Poaching.” Critical Studies in Mass Communication 5, no. 2 (1988): 85–107. https://doi.org/10.1080/15295038809366691.

there are even some earlier works in fan studies but that’s what i have ready to hand.

Henry's been amazing for a long time.

"ohhh wahhh the problem with building out america's rail network is that nobody wants to live next to train tracks-" I DO BITCH!!!!!!!! #I<3INDUSTRIALNOISES #SEXWITHATRAIN

Please do not have sex with our trains they are late and you'll get run over and wind up a pile of blood and guts in rural Pennsylvania

Do you enjoy ruining people's dreams or what

I'm part of the US government

im so done with seeing articles about kids and screen time that doesnt mention parent behaviors even once. “kids are always on their phones” so are the parents! which the kids look to for how they should behave! ipad babies didn’t chose to only play on their ipads, thats what their parents gave them!

an anecdotal example: when i was a kid, all my parents would do in their minimal free time was watch tv and then they would be surprised when in my sister and i’s minimal free time we would also only watch tv/play video games. they scolded us for not reading books, but they never read books. they scolded us for not going outside but they never went outside.

“kids are always on their damn phones” my mom is in her 60s and opens up candy crush anytime she’s sitting — it isnt just the kids

another reason batman is really funny to me is because he's one of the big three of the justice league, can stand toe-to-toe with demigods, is among the top 5 smartest people in his universe, arguably the best martial artist, has fist fought literally everyone from his own children to superman to darkside, but his arch nemesis is just. A clown. with no superpowers. that's in love with him.

Chapter 10 of my ongoing batjokes fic, As We Go Along, is up!

Are you in the mood for some Joker and batjokes psychology exploration? Well do I have the chapter for you. Also, you might need to bring some tissues.

Read it here:

Start from beginning here:

Summary:

Batman and the Joker are perched along the edges of a precarious and complicated affair when an old enemy returns to Gotham. The adversary's desires for revenge against Bruce Wayne have only strengthened with time. This forces the two enemies on a wild goose chase, and to confront their relationship head on, whether they’re ready or not.
