a lot of people seem to think that sexual harassment only “counts” if it suggests sexual desire/intentions towards the victim
“ha ha what do you mean, it’s just targeted sexual humiliation towards someone I’m not attracted to, that’s fine lol”
It is funny how many cases there are where someone who goes “Well I’ve got concerns about the thing you’re doing that mainly affects you and am actually entitled to a say” and their concerns are like, a terrible argument against doing the thing in question. Even funnier when you can tell they think you’re naïve and have never once reflected on your decision. Like I’m capable of making bad decisions, but a condescending stranger is rarely going to come up with good feedback for me, and usually is more invested in enforcing a norm “for my own good” rather than treating me as capable of reason. Sad!
Just realized I invented a new kind of dash (”---”) in that post. In case you’re tired of the old ones
Thinking of becoming an apologist for cosmetic surgery, as a treat
Now to be clear, this isn’t an argument that cosmetic surgery has no negative aspects and an endorsement of every procedure even from the point of view of it being a neutral consumer service (I haven’t looked into complication or satisfaction rates for different procedures--- some might be pretty bad). Nor is it an endorsement of the norms of social circles where cosmetic surgery is a big topic of discussion as an unalloyed good or of existing media depictions of it, yada yada. Like, I imagine that much of the culture around it is terrible.
And I don’t natively have warm and fuzzy feelings about it either, though ultimately I do not think it matters too much what my brain spits out when I hear “cosmetic surgery”. Like, that is mostly going to be vague shit I learned via osmosis.
But like I said in the tags, people tend to view cosmetic surgery with particular sadness and horror they’re entitled to publicly express, partly because it’s “unnatural” and “extreme”. Or they see it as an utterly demeaning capitulation to social norms that reflects negatively on the character and priorities of the person getting it.
Wanting to be attractive, to like how you look, and to not be treated badly are generally sympathetic motives, but if you do any of these very unnatural and extreme things to pursue them, fuck you I guess. Ever considered you wouldn’t do that in a counterfactual world? Therefore, you shouldn’t do it now. Have you tried overcoming your feelings about your body? Have you tried not thinking about it? Anyway, you can’t possibly be making a rational decision, and we’re going to grieve your old body even if you like the new one better.
And well, as a trans person who might get an Unnatural and Extreme procedure from a cosmetic surgeon, just to feel better in his body... I’m not going to sign on to that narrative.

One of the reasons I am grateful to be alive is that for all its failings and horrors, the world is so rich and interesting.
actually you know what rb this with your tumblr toxic trait. not like “ohh i rbed the same post five times in a row yesterday you cant take me anywhere” like actual stuff

so much of being an ok person is just 1) not panicking, 2) not taking things personally, and 3) not letting the vindictive gargoyle that lives in your head tell you what to do. this sucks because brains love doing those things

I’ve had major reservations about every monkeypox take I’ve seen on here.
Do you ever look at someone on our blue website and go “Wow, you have good intentions, but you are incredibly incompetent at achieving your goal”?
guy who’s terrible at sucking dick but he had a bad childhood so you have to grade on a curve because otherwise you’d make him sad and he’s already had a hard enough life
I think we really need to start working on reclaiming radical feminism from transphobic assholes. Radfem/terf ideology is NOT radical feminism, it is pure, transmisogynistic hatred. Radical feminism is about creating a world where women are safe and people of all genders receive the care they need to thrive, even if our approach to that isn't "palatable" to the patriarchy and neutered, capitalist feminism.
See I’d be open to hearing about the specific ideas or works or projects this person finds admirable and not discounting them on their face for originating with radfems! But this kind of generic defense is just... nothing. Every ideology can be articulated and defended in generic and idealistic terms.
Ultimately you need to look at what people are actually doing and there are trivial to produce examples of prominent radfems who are definitely not pursuing “care for all genders” and receiving minimal criticism from their ingroup, lol
