PWHL New York and coach Howie Draper have “mutually agreed to a coaching change” Saturday afternoon, one week after the team completed its last-place season. The New York franchise finished the PWHL’s inaugural season with the worst record, fewest wins (5) and most losses (12) in the league. “I’ve been blessed to have been a part of PWHL New York this past season,” said Draper in a league press release. “It was an honor to have worked alongside this outstanding group of staff and athletes. I look forward to the opportunity to remain involved in the continuing growth of the program.” Draper, 57, was hired in September after spending 26 seasons as coach of the University of Alberta women’s hockey team, where he amassed 667 wins and became the winningest coach in U Sports women’s hockey history. According to the announcement, Draper will return to the Bears and Pandas program next season as coach and will stay involved with PWHL New York as a special advisor, supporting the scouting department.

you wouldn’t last five and a half minutes in the five and a half minute long hallway where they raised me
coworkers under 35 love me for my cowboy bebop jacket, coworkers over 35 love me for my cd player, management loves me for my mental illness-fueled punctuality. everyone feels vaguely wary of me for my overall poor impression of acting like a human
my fish thinks if i really loved him i would fill my whole house up with water and various aquatic plants for him. but i don’t do that because i’m a bitch
I wish there were different words for the different types of forgetting because when I say I forgot something, I don’t mean “I forgot we had plans on Friday.” I almost always mean “I forgot today was Friday.” I know my friend’s birthday is on March 20th, but I won’t wish her happy birthday on time because I won’t know it’s March 20th on March 20th. My forgetfulness has nothing to do with not caring about/remembering events and everything to do with my inability to keep up with the passage of time.
My most common one is being 100% certain I did the thing already because the memory of doing it and the memory of intending to do it are the same mental images.
HELLO MY FRIENDS ILY
I made this blog in Jan 2024 at the beginning of the PWHL season because I wanted to chat and post about hockey and Tumblr has been my fandom spot historically. I haven’t had a Tumblr in years but I made a new account, joined the tag, and here we are!
I’ve been so thrilled to connect with people over women’s hockey, I’ve learnt a lot about the history of the sport (previous to the PWHL I only really tuned into the Winter Olympics, and would watch exclusively the women’s hockey and then hibernate for another 4 years), I’ve learnt about the rules, the conventions, and the players.
I love the community on here, the game live-blogging is so fun to follow along with!
All that to say, I wanted to do a giveaway to celebrate how much fun I’ve had here this season!
I work within the card collecting hobby, so that’s the theme of the giveaway. If you’re a card collector or are looking to get into the hobby, I’m hoping the prize will be fun for you!
SO WHAT’S THE PRIZE MARY STOP TEASING
- One of my coveted Miss Piggy hockey cards from the Muppets on Ice set (published ~1995)
- Three PWHL cards from the Tim Hortons Duos packs (two base and 1 insert). These will be random/based on what I have. If you have a fave player and I’ve got that card, we can make it happen!
- Two unopened Tim Hortons Duos packs, which could contain either NHL or PWHL players or both.
- Two One-Touch Magnetic Cases and a stack of top loaders, as well as a pack of penny sleeves, & some semi-rigid card savers. These are all for storage and preservation of your cards.
- I’m gonna do some PWHL bracelets so you’ll get one or two of those!
Rules/How to Participate
- 1 Like = 1 Entry, 1 Reblog = 1 Entry. To keep it simple, extra reblogging does not equal extra entries.
- You can get a bonus 3rd entry if, when you reblog, you add in the tags your favourite team, your favourite players, and your favourite moment from the 2024 season so far.
- This giveaway is limited to Canada/USA because international shipping is expensive and I’m not rolling in dollars
- I will be drawing the winner of the giveaway on June 1st 2024.
- You don’t technically gotta follow me to enter, but it’d be cool if ya did 😉
Things to consider!
- If you win, you will need to be comfortable sharing an address for me to ship your prize to.
- Please be 18+, for the simple fact that I do not want to be asking a minor for their shipping address.
Please shoot me an ask if you have any questions, and thanks again for all the fun so far on here 🥰
I'm not very north or away from light pollution and couldn't see much more than that direction being maybe a little lighter and pinker than the rest of the sky. But my camera picked it up. And some people came out of my neighbor's house (presumably friends of theirs going home) so i showed them too.

In the constant news cycle of uplifting stories about the PWHL, i do often get emotional about players like Amanda leveille and Jillian Dempsey being forced into extremely small roles making less money and in Dempseys case away from her entire support system, but they were the ones for 5+ years who were the face of hockey in their area and connecting with young players there and getting them to play hockey and with older hockey fans and getting them to care about hockey, all with very little funding or advertising or nhl help. It is quite frustrating, before even getting into the labor logistics, that those of us who have been here are just supposed to forget about those emotional connections
There’s a lot of things I wish went different this year. I wish Madison Packer got more ice time because she was successful in a defensive role but only got 4 minutes a night by a coach that kind of sucked, and yet she still went out there and did a billion interviews and made time for fans and continued to be the representative for New York hockey that she’s always been. I wish Mikyla Grant Mentis, who had 8 fucking shots in a playoff game on montreals second line, got to play a full season instead of getting waived for who knows what reason by an Ottawa team who could have really used some offense down the stretch. I wish Daryl watts wasn’t taking a paycut despite being tied for third in goal scoring in the league. I wish we had the stats for good defensive players to be recognized fully and I wish New York wasn’t coached so badly this year
What is Quinn Hughes nickname?
absolutely criminal how falling into bad habits is the easiest thing in the world while developing positive habits feels like fighting a literal war
the more I learn about this goalie the more endeared to him I become
At least I’m trying
