You’re Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Girl

@webbheaded-weirdo

The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.

In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ as they adopted the word as was used by homosexual men, except that society also used it as an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The wider queer community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.

The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.

The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities.

Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.

In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedan, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.

In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.

Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.

GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.

Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.

In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.

"My child is completely fine"

Ma'am you're child is reading some explicit smut about an older fictional character with quite a few kinks and they call them mommy/daddy...

Marvel Studios' 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3' Accused Of Pushing Transgender Ideology By Making Karen Gillan's Nebula Look Like A Man - Bounding Into Comics

Some transphobic numpty in this article is upset that he can't sexualize a female presenting character the way he wants anymore because of the way she's posing, calling her a "caricature of a mutilated weirdo".

As if that's not exactly what Nebula is.

As if she doesn't say, in the trailer of the very movie, "Yeah, my father liked to chop off my body parts as a form of torture."

So, yeah. Nebula IS a caricature of a mutilated weirdo. She's always been a mutilated weirdo she's only a caricature now because she's grown as her character and they don't like it.

It's like when Lizzie Olsen helped design Scarlet Witch's new costume and she wasn't cosplaying the 'manic pixie dreamgirl with her tits out to be ogled' and all the fuckboys got mad.

Or when Natasha finally got a movie and it was good and it had her running around doing shit instead of flaunting her girly bits.

Or when Captain Marvel was distinctly a female superhero movie and they tried to review bomb it before it came out.

Or when She Hulk/Jen was a great character and everybody was upset because she was upstaging the Hulk/Bruce by simply pointing out how much different it was for a woman than a man.

Or Ms Marvel. Or Wonder Woman.

Or any superhero media made from a woman's gaze and not from a man's gaze.

At this point dude, just say you hate women and go, no one wants you here.

Stephen slowly walking through the Kamar-Taj temple: The Scarlet Witch is very dangerous so we must be quiet and tread lightly she can project your greatest fears…

Spider-Y/N crawling on the ceiling: Well in that case… *Cups hands over mouth* AHHH! MILFS WITH HUGE TIDDIES!

Peter and Kate: *Trying not to laugh*

America: 😨

Stephen: *Unamused*

Scarlet Witch: Interesting…

"But only 2% of the population is intersex. It's not that common. Why should we reframe or perception of gender for intersex people?"

Completely ignoring the fact that empathy exists. You do realize that 2% of the population in the medical field is considered very common, yes?

2% of children and 0.5% of adults have a peanut allergy and that's so common that they have entire rules around in in public spaces.

0.24-1% of the population has Rheumatoid arthritis. That's an eighth to a half of the number of intersex people!

1-2% of people are estimated to have autism, and that's considered a common condition.

0.1%-2.6% of people will get melanoma in their life time, and that's considered common.

1.2% of people have epilepsy and that's considered common.

Completely ignoring statistics like 6% of women have PCOS (which is a condition that can fall under the intersex umbrella). 2% of the population in the medical field is considered a common condition, and ergo by medical terms intersex is in itself common.

I don't think you realize how big 2% is. That's 2 in 100 people. If you walk into 3 fully filled classrooms (when I was in school a full classroom was 40 students). Chances are you just saw 2 intersex kids and didn't even know it.

So yeah. I think intersex is common enough to include in our discussions around gender and how transphobic rules affects intersex people.

Yall wanna be gnc and androgynous but hate intersex people and the idea of being intersex so much, I remember reading about PCOS potentially being considered an intersex disorder and having 100s of people dismiss it because "we can't just be calling 1 in 10 women intersex" or being in transmasc spaces and constantly being told that bottom growth and T dicks are undesirable and that people find non standard genetalia gross, in a GENDER INCLUSIVE SPACE.

The lgbt Community seriously needs to grapple with its hatred of intersex features and stop seeing androgyny that isn't pretty waify white person. You all love femme presenting androgyny but hate when people are androgynous in a broad or hairy way.

You’re not doing what you think you’re doing when you accuse people of faking a physical disability/disorder. You’ll bitch at people who have invisible disabilities and other conditions and say we’re faking, and that we should be ashamed and not use resources made for “actually disabled people”.

Without my walker or wheelchair you wouldn’t know, unless you pay attention to my gait, that I am, in fact, actually disabled. And you’d lose your shit if you saw me get out of the car in the disabled parking space by myself and walk to the store like it’s nothing— even though it definitely is.

You’re risking berating people like myself, who (personally) was diagnosed at six months old, all because you think you’re being some sort of abled savior by accusing people of faking in order to weed them out just because they don’t match your ideal image of outward disabled presentation.

Yelling at people in parking spots, shaming people for taking the seats on the subway that are designated for disabled or pregnant people, and telling people they don’t really need their mobility aids because “truly disabled people” are more deserving is harmful.

You will never be anything other than harmful to the disabled community if you don’t get your head out of your ass about this shit. Someone else’s existence as a disabled person isn’t yours to measure what should and shouldn’t qualify as real based on your shitty and warped standards.

"how do i know a woman wants me to talk to her in the grocery store" are you an elderly woman with valuable information about cooking, cleaning, or saving money? if you answered no, then women do not want to talk to you in the grocery store.

Reblog if you genuinely support asexuals

It terrifies me that there’s so much raging passion in the lgbt+ community that insist on marginalizing asexuals and implying that asexuals don’t deserve to have safe spaces. There’s still so much acephobia so I just wanna know which blogs are genuinely supportive and a safe space for asexuals

Not feeling attraction is as queer as it gets and so am I.

Never understood why there’s so much hatred toward asexual people in LGBTQA community, it doesn’t make sense to me.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called a robot or simply an attention whore for stating that I’m asexual. 😒
