Thanks, algorithmic scrolling, for finally making me scared to like whatever bullshit I find funny at any given moment because who knows what the fuck it's going to make of that and what it will give me afterwards. Just what I needed, on this, the last place eon the web where I was in charge of how I interacted with content.
I think I would rock a peltast fit (tits out, many spears)
can’t get over when famous gangster lucky luciano was like “hey lansky seems like quite a hassle getting all those nazis offa your terf you want us to help ya out” and meyer “Left Russia Because of Pogroms and Became A Gangster In The US” lansky was like “no. no getting to beat the shit out of nazis is reward enough for us. sorry lucky this one’s personal don’t worry about it”
here’s a quote from a New York Times article abt it
also bonus quote from that article
“quick question about the punching, judge perlman: how about murder instead”
everybody says that “the government” enlisted these mobsters to beat up nazis, but like. no. no that didn’t happen? judge nathan perlman illegally called up a man who could have him shot dead at a minute to say “hey. i’ve scoured the fucking law books tryna find a way to get these fucking nazis out of here, but my legal means have unfortunately run out. so-” and meyer fucking lansky was like “ah say no more boss lemme call a buncha friends and we’ll get this sorted out real quick don’t even bother paying me.“
can you imagine that phone call. like genuinely. how am i supposed to continue living my normal life knowing this happened. people who loooove talking about punching nazis, taKE FUCKING NOTES
this is my favorite Meyer Lansky story.
my second favorite Meyer Lansky story is about the time, many years later, that he was at a meeting of mafia heads and one of them started bragging about how his son was following him into the family business.
Meyer Lansky said “That’s nice. My son works for NASA.”
hey writers if you want to make a metaphor for racism, please maybe remember that racism is literally based on nothing. Africans weren’t enslaved en masse because the Robo-Musa threatened to destroy the world, they were enslaved because it was economically rewarding and politically convenient. If at any point your allegory for racism includes “so <oppressed group> did this major catastrophe and” then you have not only missed the point but you are literally reinforcing the ideas that racism have let racism self-perpetuate (that e.g. black people are naturally dangerous and violent and must be contained or begrudgingly accepted by the Nice White People)
I have now twice been presented by tits out anime girls on Facebook of all places. If Facebook is now more willing to allow tits than Tumblr I don't know what's happening.
I wanted to make an OC in a fandom I knew nothing about.
well i done it. i finally caved. after having to walk hom in the rain on an 11 degree day… i have put the heater on
Thought you meant 111 degree and then remembered you're an Australian.
over the past couple of days ive been wracking my grey matter trying to figure out how armoured sentinels actually fit into an imperial guard force, doctrinally speaking. like, the scout sentinel is pretty easy to figure out, its a scout and skirmisher, but the armoured one is less clear. like, every other vehicle is faster than it and - barring the chimera chasis vehicles and taurox - carry bigger guns too, so it doesn really fit in well as a heavy support vehicle, unless all other tanks arent present, and even then, most of the weapons an armoured sentinel can carry can be used or have a role filled by (in the case of the multilaser and heavy bolter) the heavy weapons team, which i have to assume is a lot cheaper to try train and replace if it gets defeated than an armoured sentinel would be, tho the armoured sentinel, as the name would suggest, can take a few more hits than a heavy weapon team. i cant see them being that much better for urban combat than a leman russ, since it still faces all the same dangers as armour normally does in an urban enviroment but now with the added threat of being tripped by a steel cable or something. and like i said earlier, all the tanks are faster, so they arent as good for exploiting a breakthrough in the enemy line and they cant help the infantry advance by shielding them from enemy fire like a tank
best i can figure it, its to attach the infantry companies that have no other vehicle support so that they stop complaining about the lack of vehicle support, like the savlar chem dogs, or vallahllans
then again, military logistcs choices dont alway make sense, i mean, the us marines still use the osprey right
So the Armored Sentinel is dumb, BUT it does serve a purpose, or at least it used to. I'm not paying attention to the new rules, but in the old ones and in the lore of the games the big benefits is were that they were cheap, maneuverable, and largely immune to small arms fire. They came into their own in the old city fight rules, where walkers didn't have to worry about being bogged down on terrain or immobilized like tracked vehicles and could even climb as needed. They don't care about tank traps, barricades, blockages, they can go anywhere an infantryman can (assuming it's sturdy) and do it with a plasma Cannon. I never ran them myself but if you've got an objective somewhere up a flight of stairs, only infantry and walkers are going to make it up there. They were good at cooking plague marines, back in the day. They have no benefit in open ground over a regular sentinal who can outpace them and they're both getting mulched by a melta, but if you're city fighting specialists who got deployed to a seige you aren't leaving the guns with legs at home. I only played a couple games of 9th and anytime I brought my sentinal they just popped so I'm not sure if any of this is true these days.
I have had it with this likescolding. “Tumblr doesn’t have an algorithm so likes don’t actually do anything” motherfucker I am not clicking that heart to give some post better ~algorithmic visibility~ I am clicking that heart to help my internet friend microdose on serotonin as god fucking intended

Adventures in babysitting: a saga
If sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws.
That's why police are not welcome at Pride. Pride is for unconditional supporters, not for those who would become enemies as soon as they're ordered to.
I feel it's important to amend this with "if sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal AGAIN, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws AGAIN."
They did it before and they'll do it again. Gay sex was only made legal in Texas in 2003. I was at a sleepover at my best friend's house when it happened. We could hear the celebrations from the bar district down the block. We were 14 and both knew we were queer.
So yes, they're not welcome at pride because they'll turn on us in an instant. But also because cops who have been cops for a while full-on were against us only NINETEEN years ago.
And yes I know that's just in Texas and other states have different histories but I'm not even that old and I remember when being gay was illegal. When any relationship I dreamed of having was illegal. And THAT is my bigger reason that cops aren't welcome at pride. Yes they will turn on us, but they already were against us and not-so-secretly still are.
Cops used to raid gay bars round up drag queens and butch lesbians and gay men dressed too femininely, beat them and s*xually assault them in the jails.
And there was no legal recourse. Because it was illegal to be gay. It was illegal to wear clothes that didn’t correspond with your biological sex. Police were well within their rights to arrest them and once they got them behind closed doors they could do whatever they wanted. Who were they going to believe? The heroic police or the weird queer criminals?
That is why cops aren’t welcome at pride.
if tumblr ever starts forcing us to censor kill and die and murder and fuck and cunt and fag i’m deleting my account and starting an email chain with the mutuals
Wait I just thought about it and it might be cute to bring back wholesome church camp swear-swaps like frick, heck, jeez, mothertrucker. Sometimes the way ppl post we might need a lil. Swear jar,,
absolutely fucking not.
What we know about the missing Sub
For whatever reason this story has absolutely grabbed my attention, and so I will be compiling the information that I can confirm in a decent timeline of events, feel free to message me if y'all feel like something needs to be changed/revised
- A company known as OceanGate offers dives to view the wreck of the Titanic, charging 250,000 USD per ride. This sub is not approved by any regulatory body, and is controlled with an xbox controller. The inside is a small tube one would have to sit down to fit inside.
- It is not a regular sub, but a submersible, which does not have the power to lauch itself and return on it's own, but instead must be launched and retrieved by a mothership. Thus, constant communication is of the utmost importance.
- 4 AM, June 18th, an expedition begins. Confirmed passengers are a pilot, a "Content Expert," Businessman Hamish Harding (who posted the linked instragram post,) and two other passengers who are as yet unconfirmed.
- Communications with the sub are lost 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive.
- The US and Canadian coast guard begin working together to try and find the sub. The vessel has an advertised 96 hours of oxygen.
- The instagram post earlier is found by CNN, although they do not yet divulge who posted it. They reach out to OceanGate for comment and get none.
- An additional vessel is dispatched to assist in the search.
- The US Coast Guard holds a press conference where they discuss the difficulties in locating the vessel in the remote area it dove into.
- Coast Guard surmises that there is 70 to 96 hours of oxygen remaining, although this was reported abt ten hours ago, so it's more like 60 to 86 now.
- The coast guard also begins a twitter thread which they are continually updating. They have completed two flights over the area but have not found anything, they will dispatch another plane in the morning.
- OceanGate claims to be taking "every step possible" to recover the missing vessel.
- Twitter user Kenny Sharpe realizes that he had seen the vessel being towed out to it's expedition and posts photos that he took.
- LITERALLY FOUND THIS AS I WAS GETTING SOURCES, Daily Mail claims that the other two passengers are businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, but given DM's dubious journalistic integrity (to put it nicely,) I would take this claim with a grain of salt until other sources confirm it.
I will update this as more info becomes available, feel free to message me with sources if you know anything.
A few more infos (as I've also been completely enraptured by this story)
TW for death, drowning, suffocating, claustrophobia, etc.
- The sub is meant to have 1 pilot (Stockton Rush, OceanGate executive chief), 1 expert to narrate the expedition (Paul-Henry Nargeolet, a french explorer who is an expert diver) and 3 paying guests (Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood and his 19 years old son, Suleman Dawood). The clients are rumored to have paid 250.000$ each.
- As said above, the sub relies on a mother ship and needs to communicate every 15 minutes. They lost contact after ~2 hours. They needed to be back by 8pm, by 9pm they were declared missing.
- A CBS reporter (David Pogue) was on the Titan last year and has a documentary on it. He was also recently interviewed and gives his opinion on what could have happened.
- International help has been deployed from (at least) the USA, Canada, France and the UK.
- The biggest problem us that we have no idea where it is (duh). It's either on the surface (and they can't come out) or under the sea. So the search teams have to look in those two places. The problems are that (1) It's an ocean, the surface is huge and (2) there's so much debris on the floor that sonars wouldn't be able to tell the sub from a boulder.
- The second problem is that we won't be able to help them if they aren't on the surface. They also need to be found before all breathable oxygen is depleted, which will happen around thursday morning.
- Worsts options are: the sub lost pressure and there's no chance of survival. Or the sub is stuck under the sea or in the Titanic. In that case, even if we find it, we probably won't be able to rescue them because we wouldn't be able to access it.
- All passengers knew that the sub was experimental. No independant organisation checked to see if it could function.
- The hull is not made of standard materials, it uses carbon fiber and titanium. It usually is only titanium. The sub is thus much lighter than any other.
- It is not operated by a Xbox controller but by what seems to be an off brand controller. They also have a back up.
- The sub is TINY. The passengers have to sit cross leg. There's a window and a toilet (a curtain and music were installed for privacy).
- No other expedition was launched this year because the conditions weren't good enough. Before the departed, they said it would probably be the only one this year. Other expeditions were planned for june 2024.
Sources
If anyone else would like to reblog this post with additional info than you are more than welcome and I will reblog it from you, just try to maintain a consistent thread so that we can have all the info in one place, and please make sure the sources of the people above you are valid, as I will not be rebloging additions without sources or clarification on what is and is not speculation.
I am enraptured by this story and keeping track on my own end, but I do not want a frenzy of misinformation to break out, I want this post to be a reliable source of all of the facts.
Can't believe a ride to the afterlife costs $250,000 dollars these days.
billionaires on their £200,000 submarine ride to the titanic wreck when the guy moves his xbox controller the wrong way and a window cracks
sorry for the misinformation on this post. turns out the fucking thing doesn't have windows and you sign a death waiver to go 12,500 feet underwater to look at it through a screen
As someone with a bit of experience with marine Archaeology and Nautical Exploration, I appreciate the commitment to giving my successors some wild shit to find on the ocean floor.
This Juneteenth I invite all of my fellow Texans to read the Texas Declaration of Secession and see in so uncertain terms that our government has always been committed to the disenfranchisement and enslavement of African Americans and no amount of States Rights apologists can ever erase that. The fight continues, and we are going to need to rip this shit up by the roots to finally make a state, and a country, that is free and equitable to all. https://digital.sfasu.edu/digital/collection/EastTexRC/id/3842
I can't stop making mechs, and half of them are the worst little disjointed gremlin bastards to ever crawl off the assembly line and the other half should be a war crime for me to even consider putting on the table.
so, imp guard command squads, right, are they just like any old officer or are the just colonels? cos this has always, confused me. like, does a lieutenant get his own whole ass command squad? does a second lieutenant?
So the short answer is "It depends". The long answer is that traditionally the Imperial Guard command squads have been allocated to any officer who has a Command. A Command in this case being a body of soldiers who report to the officer. This includes both platoon level command squads who support the officer who is in charge of a platoon, company command squads who support the officer who's in charge of the company which is a group of platoons, and regimental command squads for the officer who is in charge of the regiment which is a group of companies. The reason I can't be specific as to which specific officer ranks receive command squads is because the naming conventions of ranks and which way those ranks interact with commands is entirely dependent on the nomenclature employed by the regiment and also has changed dramatically over the course of the existence of the Imperial Guard as each edition has a very different idea about how big a guard regiment is supposed to be and how many officers it should have. In general, the regimental command squad belongs to a general or Colonel, the company command squads belong to majors or captain, and the platoon command squads belong to captains or different flavors of junior officer. But you can have a duke leading a regiment, with counts leading company's and barons leading platoons, or whatever sounds fun to you, the important thing is that command squads are part of the structure of a Command not something every officer gets for free.
