//MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS - HERE IS THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM OF FINDING THAT RIGHT WORD!!!!!

I’ve reblogged it before, and I’ll reblog it again

Confession time: I’ve never been able to watch the Deathly Hallows film-only Harmione scenes without hitting the fast-forward button, and everytime I see gifs of them on tumblr, I find myself physically sickened.

It is so infuriating that the films took one of the great platonic male-female friendships in fiction and turned it into a ‘maybe they fancy each-other’ cliche.

In the books, Hermione and Harry only ever saw each-other as brother and sister, and their reactions to people thinking they were a couple were always ‘Ew; why would you think that?’. Rumours like that circulated several times when they were Hogwarts, and neither of them ever expressed embarrassment or confusion over it; their reactions were to roll their eyes, rather than avoiding each-other’s eyes and trying not to blush.

But the film-makers wanted the golden trio to be a weird love-triangle type situation with Hermione having to ‘choose’ one boy over the other. It is detrimental to their relationship dynamic, as well as their friendship as a whole.

I will never forgive the films for this. It was bad enough that they pushed Ron Weasley into the role of comedic sidekick, but they couldn’t even write Harry and Hermione as they were in the books. Harry and Hermione were best friends and were surrogate-siblings to one-another. They had each other’s backs but often got on each-others’ nerves due to their personalities being so similar (both of them can be quite obsessive over things). Ron was the person who balanced them out; I often see it as the ‘lukewarm water in between fire and ice’ effect; calming both down and stopping them from getting lost in their own heads.

Is it really so wrong that the Harry and Hermione never saw each-other in a romantic light? Was it too much to ask to have a platonic male-female relationship on-screen with no hint of romantic undertones?

No offence to Harmony/Harmione shippers, but I just don’t understand why the films had to change the book!golden trio’s dynamic so much. It is not only detrimental to Ron as a character, but also to Harry and Hermione as characters as well.

@phantoms-lair That is a deeply sad thing. Seriously, why is it so difficult for people of different genders to be friends and nothing else? Is friendship really held in such low regard compared to romance? Is heteronormativity so strictly regimented that men and women can’t even be platonically close without people suspecting that they’re romantically-involved?

Literally me, when Ron goes i only stop the button when he returns (sorry but the harmione dance it’s so ridicule)

The physiological effects Ron faced in Deathly Hallows

And why the conditions when they camped had a worse effect on Ron.

I must preface this by saying I’m about to talk a bit about generalized cis people’s bodies in survival conditions, and medical stuff. This is contextualizing what happened if we were to apply what we know of the real-world conditions they were under, and how that affected them all, but especially, Ron.

THE EFFECT OF THEIR SURVIVAL CONDITIONS ON THE BODY

The conditions they are living in are survival conditions, and they are pretty dang rough.

Weatherwise, it is getting colder, and would be terribly chilly at night. They each take a shift sitting in that weather at night. At least I’m assuming hydration isn’t as much of an issue, due to aguamenti. Food-wise, however, they are starving. They are getting starvation level of calories on and off again. Like, mushrooms? That’s like 4 calories for one mushroom. A grown adult need 2000+/- calories. You think they were eating 500 mushrooms in a day? Nope. Their bodies are starving those days. Many nights they only have a ‘berries and stale biscuits’. They are able to steal eggs and bread at times, but the issue of them not having food is a constant.

When you’re in survival conditions, muscle mass, body type and fat on your body can really be a big factor in your ability to weather starvation conditions of low calories, inadequate shelter, and possible dehydration.

The taller and more muscled you are, the more fuel you need to keep going and maintain your muscle mass. Women have a higher fat to muscle ratio, and fat is great for helping in these conditions. Your body can feed off the fat and not start breaking down your muscles to survive.

Then the inclimate weather takes a toll on a person’s general condition. The cold that plagues them makes their body have to work even harder to do things. You’re expelling extra calories with every shiver- calories you NEED to reserve for gathering firewood, finding food, maintaining your muscles, having the energy to think.

So Hermione, an unathletic woman of average height (to see my break down of heights see this post), would have a higher amount of body fat to survive off of. She wouldn’t require as many calories to have her muscle mass stay at the same level. She also is prone to not eating much when she’s doing things. There’s a reason Ron (and even one time Harry in PoA) are reminding her to eat. This makes her pretty prepared to not eat much, and still be relatively ok.

Harry is somewhat tall at this point, and wiry (athletic and thin) but is more acclimated to starvation conditions due to is upbringing, and almost half a foot shorter than Ron.

Then there’s Ron. He’s VERY tall, athletic, and thin. That is a terrible combo for surviving in the wild with starving conditions.

And then he’s gravely injured.

RON’S SPLINCHING INJURY

Looking at this injury- it’s very severe, and I think a lot of people overlook it when taking in what injury Ron has gone through when he was splinched. Part of his body was instantaneously amputated with no aesthetic at all. He is bleeding profusely so that ‘blood drenched the whole of Ron’s left side.’ And that’s just seconds after landing in the forrest. It’s ugly, there are many arterial veins there- and then he bleeds so much that in only a minute or so he’s unconcious from blood loss.

That isn’t just a little flesh wound. Ron’s body has gone into shock.

Let’s look at how his injury and symptoms are described:

  • in the few moments it took for Ron to give a low groan and harry to start crawling toward him, he realize that this was not the forbidden forest
  • blood drenched the whole of ron’s left side and his face stood out, grayish-white
  • His face drained of what little color it had left
  • ron, whose eyes were now half-closed, strips of white eyeball all that were visible between his lids. “he’s fainted” said hermione
  • Ron groaned and opned his eyes. he was still gray and his face glistened with sweat
  • ron still looked pale and clammy. he had made no attempt to sit up and it looked as though he was too weak to do so.
  • ron attempted to sit up and turned a nasty shade of green

Looks very much like the symptoms for hypovolemic shock to me.

There are 4 stages of hypovolemic shock, with 4 being the worst. He’s either stage 2 or 3

  • By Stage 2, the blood loss increases to up to 30 percent. The patient may experience increased heart and breathing rates. Their blood pressure may still be within normal range. The diastolic reading, or bottom number, of their blood pressure reading may be raised, however. The patient may begin sweating and feel more anxious and restless.
  • By stage 3, the person with hypovolemic shock will have had 30 to 40 percent blood loss. The top number or systolic reading of their blood pressure will be 100 or lower. They will have a significantly increased heart rate and abnormally rapid breathing.  The patient will begin to experience mental distress, including anxiety and agitation. Their skin will be pale and cold, and they will begin sweating.

Given those, I think he’s a stage 4.

Or here’s a list of mild vs severe hypovolemia:

Mild symptoms can include:

Severe symptoms, which must be taken seriously and warrant emergency medical attention, include:

It’s up to you whether he is mild or severe- but he shows some symptoms of severe for certain. Hermione is thankfully able to staunch his bleeding with the dittany. But his aftercare from then on isn’t really what’s best for blood loss. They prop him up on pillows when he should have his legs propped up. He isn’t getting a blood transfusion. There is no pain medication/potions to manage his injury. Like… He’s lucky Hermione packed dittany, otherwise he would have bled out and died. He also is lucky he didn’t get a complication from it worse than he did.

So without a blood transfusion, without any medicine - his body has gone through a HUGE ordeal. He needs food and rest to get his strength back. He gets a negligible amount of both for however long he is with Hermione and Harry*. (2 months? Almost 3?).

He then does not take time to heal at all. He’s doing the exact same tasks as the other two within a few days, it seems, as Ron is described as helping Harry with spells to get rid of divetts from the tent the very next morning, and is walking about with a sling.

Harry is described as “hungry and a little light-headed” the night Ron was splinched. Imagine how Ron was feeling having lost so much blood?

IN CONCLUSION

Physiologically alone, Ron is at a great disadvantage the moment they are camping, just from his height build and their general camping conditions.

Add in his devastating injury, and he’s at an even greater disadvantage.

Add on top of that the horcrux targeted him specifically, and how his family is in great danger, it’s no wonder he experienced a worse amount of duress when they were camping.

Anyone who gives Ron flack about it needs to sit and give it a think.

this is so amazing and thorough and I’m tagging anyone who hates on ron for leaving during DH in this post from now on

There are people out there who actually full on hate Ron Weasley and that makes me sad.

I don’t mean those who are like “he’s not my favourite but I guess he has good qualities” I mean the ones who call him “stupid” and write fanfics where he is a douche/abusive to Hermione which is just so out of character.

I get if you don’t like him, but don’t ruin the fandom for people who do. Don’t write him off as just an idiot for comic relief because Ron is so much more than that.

the magic begins » Favorite Ship - Ron/Hermione

There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet. “Is this the moment?” Harry asked weakly, and when nothing happened except that Ron and Hermione gripped each other still more firmly and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice. “Oi! There’s a war going on here!” Ron and Hermione broke apart, their arms still around each other. “I know, mate,” said Ron, who looked as though he had recently been hit on the back of the head with a Bludger, “so it’s now or never, isn’t it?”

the thing with romione being my OTP is that I see them everywhere, and I mean literally everywhere

when I hear a beautiful love song, all I hear is romione

random painting? romione!

poem I found on my dash? romione!

fanart that is clearly depicting a couple from another fandom? they sure look like romione to me

so yeah, romione is the best and everyone else can go home, bye

Okay, I love Hermione Granger, but if the roles had been reversed and Ron attacked Hermione with birds or attacked her in the way Hermione did when Ron returned after leaving, it would only be seen as another reason to hate him, yet people make a habit out of having Hermione hit Ron when she’s annoyed with him in fanfiction.

I bet Ron Weasley would be the greatest dad ever tbh and Hermione would fall in love all over again over that

oh man domestic Ron is my life

Ron, who was the reasonable, level-headed one during both pregnancies whenever Hermione would start to get anxious and doubt herself

Ron, who would have happily spent every night watching Rose and Hugo sleep. He couldn’t believe he and Hermione made little people who were so tiny and so perfect and he was blown away by how fiercely he already loved them.

Ron, who’s always more than happy to let the kids crawl in bed with him and Hermione, no matter how big they get. Doesn’t matter if they had a bad dream or just needed some company; the kids are always welcome in their room.

Ron, who spends his days at home with their babies while Hermione’s at the Ministry, reading them stacks and stacks of books - books Hermione picked out, books from the Granger grandparents, picture books that Arthur picked out with absolute delight in a Muggle store.

Ron, who’s beyond proud when his children become precocious bookworms who insist on figuring out the words themselves.

Ron, who eventually begins taking the children along with him when he goes to help George running Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. They’re surrounded all day by fun and color and get to meet all kinds of other children, with their father and uncle always safely within reach.

Ron, who loves the shit out of his kids and would do anything to see them safe and happy.

THIS IS CANON

Just something I noticed

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, chapter 27 ‘Padfoot returns’;

“‘There’s something funny, though,’ said Hermione, ten minutes later, holding her pestle suspended over a bowl of scarab beetles. ‘How could Rita Skeeter have known …?’
‘Known what?’ said Ron quickly. ‘You haven’t been mixing up Love Potions, have you?’
‘Don’t be stupid,’ Hermione snapped, starting to pound up her beetles. ‘No, it’s just… how did she know Viktor asked me to visit him over the summer?”
Hermione blushed scarlet as she said this and determinedly avoided Ron’s eyes.
“What?” said Ron, dropping his pestle with a loud clunk.
“He asked me right after he’d pulled me out of the lake,” Hermione muttered. “After he’d got rid of his shark’s head, Madam Pomfrey gave us both blankets and then he sort of pulled me away from the judges so they wouldn’t hear, and he said, if I wasn’t doing anything over the summer, would I like to -”
“And what did you say?” said Ron, who had picked up his pestle and was grinding it on the desk, a good six inches from his bowl, because he was looking at Hermione.
“And he did say he’d never felt the same way about anyone else,” Hermione went on, going so red now that Harry could almost feel the heat coming from her, “but how could Rita Skeeter have heard him? She wasn’t there… or was she? Maybe she has got an invisibility cloak; maybe she sneaked onto the grounds to watch the second task…”
“And what did you say?” Ron repeated, pounding his pestle down so hard that it dented the desk.

These two lovesick dorks…

Anytime that people say Romione was a ‘last minute’ thing, I point them in the direction of this scene in GOF.

Hermione is embarrassed and (I think) very uncomfortable about discussing Viktor Krum’s intentions towards her whilst Ron is present. She clearly has issues with making it clear to Ron that Viktor Krum had romantic interest in her, as she can’t even look Ron in the face whilst talking about it.

Ron, for his part, pays way more attention to this than Harry does, and is so fixated upon hearing the full story that he stops paying attention to everything else around them. He is especially interested in what Hermione’s reaction to Krum’s proclamation was.

You couldn’t have made their mutual crushes more obvious is you wrote it on their foreheads.

MERLIN’S BEARD, WILL YOU TWO JUST ADMIT YOU LIKE EACH-OTHER ALREADY?!

hello lovely followers, I’m currently working on a lil project surrounding romione and I was wondering if you guys could do me a favour and comment your most commonly heard claims made by people who dislike romione/don’t think they would work together, in order for each of those claims to be separately debunked.

the ideas can be about either character within the ship, eg. ‘ron was AbUsIvE to hermi1!!!’ or, in contrast, relating to the way both characters interact with each other, eg. ‘ron and hermione are constantly fighting!!’

essentially, the idea is that I’m planning on creating a range of posts negating each negative stereotype expressed about romione by antis, with evidence from all 7 books, and thereby combatting the negative portrayals of romione within the movies, and more importantly, within the Harry Potter fandom.

try and comment as many as you can (preferably without repetition please), and I’ll try to make exclusive posts about all that are mentioned. all my love! 💋

People say that Ron isn’t enough for Hermione ( this is soo sad)

“He knows I’m after Horcruxes—he’s keeping Nagini close beside him, obviously I’m going to have to go to him to get near the thing—"Right,” said Ron, squaring his shoulders. “So you can’t go, that’s what he wants, what he’s expecting. You stay here and look after Hermione, and I’ll go and get it—"Harry cut across Ron. "You two stay here, I’ll go under the Cloak and I’ll be back as soon as I— “No,” said Hermione„ “it makes much more sense if I take the Cloak and— “Don’t even think about it,” Ron snarled at her.

I will never ever be over Romione haters like… damn, if it was any other two characters you would be all over it but because it’s Ron and Hermione the amount of bullshit that ship gets is incredible

the story is beautiful. the girl ends up with the friend and not the main hero, the sidekick who is smart, he has an incredible character arc (I know some people literally ignore character arcs so as someone who understands let me tell you Ron’s character arc is bloody brilliant to say the least), they go through a goddamn war together, they go through hell, they have a PINING ERA, they lose each other then one of them finds their way back to the other and they are in love and they fucking survive and you are telling me they are not good together? How much more slow burn could that shit have been? Like how could the foundation be any stronger?

let me write the same story with characters y’all adore and let’s see what happens?

You know what’s really Wild, is people who say they can’t ship romione because they’re such good friends that it’s “”“almost inc*st”“” but they think that hermione should instead be with the person who bullied her constantly and wished death on her. Like god forbid two people in a relationship are nice to each other holy shit.

Can I just say that it makes me so angry to see the extent people hate on Ron Weasley? Like…seriously? People in this fandom go way out of their way to make him out to be an abusive asshole to Hermione when he really isn’t.

Some things to bear in mind:

  • Ron is 11-18 over the course of the main story. If you’ve ever met an 11-18 year old boy (particularly a British one), you’ll know that Ron’s behaviour is actually relatively tame compared to what some boys are like. Yeah, he can be an arse at times - but he’s a teenager, he’s growing and learning.
  • Yeah, Ron was a dick to Hermione at times - I’m not disputing that, and I’m a hardcore Romione shipper. But, similarly, Hermione could honestly be so bloody irritating and cruel in return; I relate to Hermione just as much as the next person, but if I’d actually gone to school with her, I’d have been so fed up with her. She acted like she was better than many others (i.e. “girly” girls like Lavender, on many occasions she acted this way about Ron in class, Luna etc.), refused to be more open-minded (i.e. Luna and her beliefs), dismissive of other people’s feelings however unintentionally (Crookshanks/Scabbers incident, Lavender’s bunny) and she could be cruel (eg. sending birds after Ron to peck/attack him, making it so that another student would forever be scarred with the word “sneak” across their face - yeah, Marietta did wrong and that’s gross, but y’all are really going to defend Hermione causing permanent scarring to a teenage girl?)
  • Please remember that the series is a British series; the castle is located in Scotland, and most of the characters are English. British school humour is so much more dry/deadpan/snarky than American school humour. Ron is an example of this; British people can and regularly DO make jokes that others may perceive as being offensive. My parents regularly call each other names like “you knob” and “you’re a spaz” - my dad has a regular joke going where he implies my mum is inbred, and my mum returns it with “at least I’m not related to Irish tinkers” jokes. They don’t mean it. It’s just how British people are with their humour.
  • To add, I tell my sister to “fuck off” and much worse; once, when we were younger, I threw a glass of Coke over her in our bedroom. Another time, I made her toys stink and I put orange squash in her porridge so she wouldn’t eat it - I even cut off chunks of her hair and drew on her butt (she was a baby and I was 3, but still) What Ron said to Ginny in HBP (and vice versa) is NOTHING compared to what some siblings do to each other. Siblings are like that, I promise.
  • Ron and Hermione were little kids when they met and became friends; they also grew up seeing each other every day at school, standing together at Quidditch games, hanging out when Harry wasn’t around, and there were times when Hermione and Ron spent portions of the summer holidays together before Harry joined them. All this, and then they had to live together (with Harry) in a tent for nearly a whole year. Their banter is a result of that - especially when they started to develop feelings for each other. Both of them were obviously unsure of how to act on those feelings, perhaps scared of ruining their friendship (and how that would then affect Harry as a result), and so that sexual tension became bickering/bantering instead. Also, sometimes people DO bicker/banter with their crushes - I do it a lot of the time.
  • Ron may have been a bit of an arse at times to Hermione - but then he would always step up to help her or defend her if someone was rude to her. When Malfoy called her a ‘mudblood’, he attempted to hex him; when Snape made disparaging comments about Hermione always putting her hand up in class and calling her an “insufferable know-it-all”, Ron (despite the fact he is noted to always make comments about her ‘knowing everything’) stood up to Snape - a freaking teacher - and basically stated, “you asked a question and she knew the answer, what do you expect?!”
  • Let’s not forget Malfoy Manor either: first of all, when Bellatrix says she’s going to torture Hermione, Ron immediately lurches in with “No! Take me instead!”. When Hermione is being tortured while the boys are locked away downstairs, Ron is written to be pounding his fists on the walls and screaming her name - at one point, he’s sobbing at hearing her screams.
  • While the book version of Malfoy Manor is obviously the canon version and the better one, let’s just take a moment to appreciate Ron saying “like hell!” before charging into the room when Bellatrix talks of ‘disposing’ of Hermione.
  • Ron is there for Harry too, and he’s undoubtedly Harry’s best friend (so is Hermione, but Ron and Harry’s is the stronger one I feel); when Ron and Harry first meet, they immediately hit it off. Harry had no friends until he went to Hogwarts, and Ron is the first student who sits down and has a conversation with him. They bond over sweets, and Harry is immediately interested in Ron’s family because he didn’t have such a loving family growing up. Ron cheers Harry on in all his Quidditch matches, offers to be Harry’s second in his midnight duel with Malfoy, and has Harry’s back for the whole series. In the second book, Ron (and the twins) steal their dad’s car and actually break Harry out of the Dursleys’ house because they’re worried about him. Third book, Ron gets up on a broken leg and announces to presumed-murderer-and-assumed-insane-person Sirius Black, “if you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us first!”. In the fourth book, Ron is the thing Harry would miss the most - not Hermione or a girl or literally ANYONE ELSE - it’s Ron. Ron stands by Harry even when most of the Wizarding World doubts him when he says about Voldemort returning; Ron always fights for Harry; he makes sure that Harry knows he’s welcome at the Burrow anytime, and I’m 100% sure he wrote to Molly in his first week of term and mentioned Harry having no loving family members, and he probably mentioned to her “you should make him a sweater or something - or maybe just send the chocolate. He could use some feeding” (or along them lines, IDK)
  • Yeah, Ron left in Book 7 - but he was under the influence of a horcrux, and he says he immediately regretted it. He searched all that time for Harry and Hermione after, and he comes back just when Harry needs him most (that is, whilst Harry is naked and drowning to death in a freezing pond). He KILLS that horcrux like a badass and makes sure to make up for his past mistakes. Ron matures so much in that last book, and it’s so obvious.
  • Ron was literally given the shittest deal in the movies because Kloves/Yates were hardcore Harmonie shippers and cut all of Ron’s best bits and/or gave them to Hermione so she was too perfect (which the book!hermione isn’t, she’s imperfect and that’s why I love her)

People who write Ron as being some abusive dick hole…why? How on Earth did you get him so wrong? I’m just…how?!

Anyone who knows anything about Ron knows he’s kind and loyal at heart; I fully believe that he was both a loving and supporting partner to Hermione, and also a fantastic, adoring father to Rose and Hugo. (but my headcanons are for another day)

This isn’t even the Romione shipper in me talking - you can write/ship what you want, but can you not turn Ron into some asshole when you do it? Ron is literally friendship and loyalty personified, why do you hate him so much?

Also even if you have to hate on Ron leave fucking Rupert Grint out of it okay he did the best he could with the crap material Yates/Kloves gave him - Rupert was literally the best Ron ever and the movie makers wasted him
