I wrote poetry instead of doing my shit who wants to read
Knight in bloody armour
I watch your father’s head roll down the steps,
And briefly consider saving it to hold my crown.
Your dagger pierces me before I can look back to you,
My sword cuts through your dress just as fast.
We slump to the ground together.
We have been enemies for as long as I remember,
Our wars and battles have been mighty.
The smell of corpses wafting through the air,
A warning to us both,
Now somehow calming as we sit together.
We breathe in the same air,
And just for a short while,
Allow ourselves to pretend we were allowed to be lovers,
Like we've yearned to be.
We do not have much time,
Red swallows up the white of our garments,
I swallow up the look on your face.
You pull my head into your lap,
Run your fingers through my hair,
Wince as your arm moves.
I simply stare in awe.
Your eyes are more beautiful than the entire room,
All of the bloodshed was worth it,
Losing my life is worth it,
Just for this moment with you.
You thumb over my mouth,
Smudging my face red,
Unsure where lipstick ends and blood begins,
Still my blush is darker.
I smile and you giggle,
We both ignore the spread of warm crimson in my hair.
I tell you I love you,
You wish I was lying,
I wish the same.
And you tell me you’re sorry,
That you never got to love me back,
At least not in the way you wanted.
(I never got to hold a rose in between my teeth for you,
Without thorns in my gums)
And we lie there together waiting for life to fade.
And they will find me lying in your arms,
Pinkies locked in a pool of blood.
Temporary,
Yet somehow inseparable,
Until we are put in distant coffins.
