after all these years, it’s like not a day has gone by
+ bonus!
Heyy, I'm glad that you liked some of my last suggestions! :D
(and I've been enjoying so many of the other ppls reccs too! I love how we are all collaboratively creating a playlist for them <3)
So anyways
I'm back with three more songs. This time from my favourite band 😅 (I can really reccomend their music a lot outside of these picks as well!)
1. Two minutes!
(Communication issues both during and prior to the break up)
"It's like all the wallpaper inside my heart
Is slowly slowly peeling off
And I'm showing all the stains and things
They wrote on the wall before
I'll stare at you As you stare, as you stare right back at the sky"
"Give me two damn minutes and I'll be fine
These hands are growing old
They're running out of things to hold"
"If I'm good will you come back?
If I'm good will you come back to us?"
2. Wild blue yonder
(From break up until the reunion)
"Without you, I’m stronger, I’m no longer filled with wonder/You. You told me when I was younger that I was filled with wonder
How wrong you were"
"I surrender what was, what could have been
All those wonders sit in wait for us, we tried
Try please try for me"
"And the candle we lit, well we’ll use it to burn this whole place to the ground
I’m lost
I’m found
In you"
(Ian gave us such great material with that quote istg)
"So hide under the covers
We don’t know what’s out there
Could be ghosts or monsters or a robot vampire, I dunno"
(robot vampire just seems like Smth they would put in a sketch so I had to include that line as well 😹)
3. Battle Cries
(Kind of breakup era but with glimpses from the past and future)
"Who wins this war? You’ve a knack
For applause from the back of the stalls, but you lack
The conviction to look at me straight and say yes"
"As we walk with the sun hand in hand from the wreck
Some fictions we took to mean fate, believe me, I know"
"Tell the truth to me, love, does my hair look as nice
As it did when it once tangled up in your eyes?
Look at me as you say this, don’t look at your phone"
"After summers of fasting, I feel hunger at last
For the person 15-year-old me would be proud to have known"
"With you, I could summon the gods and the stars
Watch them dance out the plays that we wrote from the heart
And we’d laugh at the ghosts of our fears, 'we were gods/we were kids'"
"I’m going to binge watch a box set, drink wine, reminisce
This isn’t a break up, dearheart, it’s a season finale"
Honourable mentions:
Marbles
Blossoms
Hope you enjoy <3
I love seeing your recs in my inbox🥹
dating and relationships are the ultimate “you cringe you lose” compilation
sounds like a joke post but unironically one of the first hurdles to forming healthy happy relationships is to learn to suppress the impulse to go “eww lame” about stuff that partners or potential partners are into.
the chances of meeting someone who isn’t into at least a few things you think are really really lame is very slim, and instead of chasing after the dream of meeting somebody who only, exclusively, likes stuff you also like, it’s better to just like. learn to be more chill about people liking stuff you don’t, and hope that they’ll return the favor and be chill about you liking stuff they don’t.
This applies to friendship too tbh, I love my friends because we’re all cringe in our own way. A friend is into Danganronpa, I’m into Fire Emblem and Persona, we both know we’re cringe and loving it
I fought this very much, but here it is! Watercolour and oil pastels.
one of the best things ever is when u find a really talented artist whos obsessed with an obscure/unpopular character and just lovingly draws their underrated guy 30 times a day even tho all their posts get 5 notes. these ppl are the backbone of society. they’re thriving theyre mentally unchained
For the end of Pride Month I'm posting this piece that in my head I've been calling 'Queer Anger'. I was very into Marvel back before Endgame and everything after came out and yes, I was (and I guess still am) a Stucky fan. A wonderful opportunity that was squandered by Marvel and Disney in favour of money from homophobic countries, represented in this piece by the hands brutally keeping the two characters away from eachother. Nothing to be done about now but a piece (of my mind) that I wanted to create nonetheless. I hope everyone enjoys this, and the last days of Pride Month as well! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
my alpha wolf scent is maggikraut
your omega scent is ahoj brause waldmeister
You jest - but once during a guided tour in a German forest, the Förster said "And if it suddenly starts smelling of Maggi, beware that there are wild boars around. They smell like that, very strongly."
it is NOT set as an insult, its set as a primal omegaverse love story in the depths of the Black Forest where i protect my sweet smelling omega from wild boars und dem Holländermichel
the autistic urge to lay on the floor for two hours when something mildly inconveniencing happens
do x reader writers know how hated they are by a majority of tumblr users. like i honestly wouldnt even care that much if they could all 1. use a read more. a basic function of the site. and 2. tag their posts with just "#x reader" thats it. no character. please. god please i just want to blacklist these without blocking you but you make it so hard
I'm sorry, I don't want to come across as harsh, but this is honestly ignorant as fuck.
I'm not gonna claim to know everything about the importance of studying dead languages, but I think I can safely say that it would probably be a really bad thing if we lost these languages to time if we didn't have people studying them.
We can lose hundreds if not THOUSANDS of years of story-telling history if these languages end up forgotten.
I can't put it into clear words right now because I'm busy or go int depth because I only have a common sense understanding, but I just wanted to address this. So if anybody on Tumblr who's more qualified to speak on this kind of matter wants to explain, then please take the floor for me.
- Many, many English words have Latin roots, so studying Latin can expand your English vocabulary to the point that you won't even need to check the dictionary meaning if you can recognize its Latin roots.
- Additionally, you can make up new words as needed by mashing together Dead Words.
- Lots of scientific jargon use Latin and Ancient Greek exactly because they're dead languages - the meaning of those words are set in stone. Studying those languages can help you understand and remember the extremely complex strings of words common in those topics.
- Latin is the Mother of Romance languages. Just studying Latin can make it easier to adapt to the grammar rules of the other Romance languages, or even help you Frankenstein out a meaning of a simple paragraph.
- All translation is a series of compromises. Even if Ye Olde Latin Text has been translated to English again and again and again, there WILL BE several points where the translator had to circumnavigate the translation to a phrase because the exact tone and concept is difficult to convey in English!!! (I am bilingual and this problem frustrates me to no end!!)
- And that's approaching this problem in good faith. We have a history of people outright lying about their translation credentials, deliberately translating a text "wrong" for their own benefit, or adding flourishes that drastically change the tone of the translation. Reviewing that 18th-century English translation of some 13th-century Latin book instead of just thoughtlessly reprinting it is vital to having a clear understanding of that book and placing it in its proper context.
- We have a LOT of untranslated archived material that have text written in dead languages, Latin included. Translating these provide us history.
And last but not the least:
Things do not have to be "useful" to have value.
also dead does not mean no longer in use, it means no longer CHANGING. No new words are being added to that dictionary. That’s all it means. Latin is only dead bc new words aren’t being added to its dictionary
one thing about me is i frickin love long ass youtube videos about the most random and niche topics imaginable. defunctland's investigation into who created the disney channel theme song? oh i was seated. a two hour breakdown on the lore of the entire tekken video game franchise? sign me up. a vlog about a cross-country roadtrip dining at every single rainforest cafe in the united states? i'm there.
i dislike the implications that "disabled people who aren't working" and "disabled people who cannot afford to be unemployed" are discrete categories. bc i guarantee they do overlap. some disabled people will not be able to afford to be unemployed but they cannot, even at a push, even with accommodations, remain in employment. and it's important to remember them
like it genuinely sucks that people are in a position where they are forced to sacrifice their health for survival. but the people who can't work aren't "lucky" they can afford to do that, because there were thousands of disabled people who were unable to work who weren't that "lucky" when austerity policies led to their deaths. unless you're saying they're "lucky" to survive which honestly is quite insensitive. direct that frustration elsewhere
I wanted to put a more positive spin on the popular skeleton leaving meme
fun fact: firefox can get around many "oops you already read 3 articles this month" paywalls very easily
step 1: click the reader mode button in your address bar
step 2: f5
that's it! that's all the steps.
