as I said in the tags, I believe in ghosts! wholeheartedly! I believe I've had weird experiences that can't be explained any other way!

but

I work with/in old buildings professionally

they are the most temperamental, bizarre beasts you can ever imagine. the number of things that can make strange sounds, drafts, smells, or even motion in an old building are insane. like yeah, maybe you saw a ghost! or maybe you had a gas leak!

but to assume it must be one of those two things is to ignore the vast smorgasbord of Obnoxious Stuff Old Houses Do

now like I said, things I can't explain away have happened to me. "I heard the staff door open and close, complete with motion sensor ding, and footsteps moving around the room it leads into- and also my coworker heard it too, from a completely different area of the house -but nobody was there and there are no other exits from that space" can hardly be chalked up to dust in that sensor

but a LOT of weirdness can

concrete/cement and unfinished basements can have infrasound issues (which explains why you feel creeped out for no reason, and/or like something's lurking), or wiring issues, or both. You can't make infrasound go away (and it can be coming from a ways away) but if you toss down a rug you can dampen/diffuse it. This is really why more properly finished (and insulated) basements tend to feel less creepy (although our brains can make it creepy bc brains are silly!).

But I have fully had inexplicable things happen, even things people with me have also witnessed. So I believe in both ghosts AND things being sciencey at you and making you experience "ghosts".

I haven't thought about Encanto in forever. Remember how Mirabel was a teenager still living in her family's nursery? Remember how she was denied the basic right of growing up because she failed to conform to her family's standards? Ever think about young people being infantalized by their societies because they can't conform to the standards of "adulthood"? Do you?

i think part of the reason lost media videos are so fun is that it more ethically scratches the same itch as true crime. a bunch of people online being amateur sleuths and going down rabbit holes is a lot easier to enjoy when theyre looking for a cereal commercial from 1991 instead of liike bothering the families of murder victims
