Although more people seem to agree now compared to a few years ago it’s still pretty shocking how many liberals and even leftists don’t see fascist organizing as a serious, organized, armed threat.

The problem with liberals is that if they pull at that thread then their entire ideology unravels. It is a lot easier to view, for example, fascists organizing mass violence as “basement dwellers” and “hicks” and “dorks” or the extrajudicial murder of activists and minorities without trial by armed members of the state as a “policing problem” with a “few bad apples”.  Framing violent actors as unserious, unorganized, and peaceful allows liberals to avoid having to do anything

“[T]he luminous and shocking beauty of the everyday is something I try to remain alert to, if only as an antidote to the chronic cynicism and disenchantment that seems to surround everything, these days. It tells me that, despite how debased or corrupt we are told humanity is and how degraded the world has become, it just keeps on being beautiful. It can’t help it.”
