“it’s too hard” it’s okay if it can’t be easy!

+ ask people who have made a neocities if you are struggling, many people won’t be aggravated that you send an email asking where or how they learned to set up their webpage! like me and my page! i love emails!

+ start small, have reasonable goals set in mind! there is no such thing as a step too small! it took me several weeks just to figure out basic CSS!

+ don’t focus on it being good or presentable, focus on being able to understand what you did so you can grow from where you left off.

+ if you don’t have enough energy to do what you don’t know yet, have more fun with what you do know! don’t know how to style a page yet, but know how to add fun images, links, and text modifiers? slap some more in there!

+ have fun with your web page! all i post about on my pink little website is video games, dog trivia, with miscellaneous buttons, stamps, and quizzes! it’s my site, my house, my rules, my fun!

+ ask for help, the worst they can say is “i don’t know!”, or “i can’t help you!”

so here’s a mini art dump

first one is Tenebris my sona, second is another oc of mine that i just made- her name is cheetah and she’s a fortune teller in Possibility (she’s a sand/night with a teeny bit of foresight). the third is part of a thing i did for anatomy reference- i haven’t studied anatomy but i think i did ok! lol

me: great! time to post to ao3-

Ooh, this is actually kinda a neat thing, because you can think of it as a checklist:

  • Who: Main character(s)
  • Why: Character goal or desire (stated)
  • Why: Character need (implied)
  • When: Inciting Incident
  • What: Means (that achieves the goal/need)
  • Where: Place A >> Place B
  • How: The Plan
  • Obstacle(s): antagonist or challenge

For example:

  • Who: Bilbo Baggins, a respectable hobbit of Hobbiton
  • Why: Treasure, wealth (stated)
  • Why: Adventure, self-respect (implied)
  • When: After supper
  • What: Quest
  • Where: Hobbiton >> The Lonely Mountain
  • How: A company of dwarves, a wizard, and an ancient map and key
  • Main antagonist(s): a dragon

Thus, in less than 100 words:

  • Bilbo Baggins is a respectable hobbit in Hobbiton, never making any trouble or having any adventures. But when a wizard and a company of dwarves invite themselves to dinner, Bilbo finds himself joining their quest from the shires of Hobbiton to the legendary Lonely Mountain, the home of a long lost treasure, and quite, possibly, a dragon.

The Anatomy of Story by John Truby is a really good book by the by, if anyone’s interested in this sort of thing.

This is super helpful!’

my favorite clip studio assets!

since i’ve been using csp a lot more now i thought i’d make a post of the assets i use the most for ppl looking for good stuff!

OMG THE ERASE ALONG EDGE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE! OP THANK YOU! THANK YOU! WITH LITERAL TEARS IN MY EYES

THANK YOU!!!!!!

i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors

“red and green are opposites 🥰” cool now how do i paint a tree with pinks and blues without it looking like a child’s finger painting or incongruous blobs of rainbow vomit

ok i can’t explain it very well but im looking for tips and techniques for rendering art like

with specifically the highlights and colors being hues that compliment each other, don’t distract from the scene, and make it more interesting/visually appealing

is it too much to ask

gonna drop some sources I have saved on Pinterest! I don't know if these all link back to the original sources so apologies for that

This one's more for palette building but I think it's useful and can be applied to the other ones

"Chromatic fringe" - I also see people using this with shading, they bring in a transition color that is a different hue than the base color or shadow, it makes it so that less vibrancy is lost and it doesn't get muddy!

This one specifically has a lot of process behind the style of painting you're looking for!

Also one of my favorite artists who makes bright and colorful art like this is Not Sorry Art on TikTok & YouTube, her website is here and it's<3 my fav. She has some videos where you can see her process

With the oranges painting you put as an example, I noticed they painted the lighter values more toward yellow - they also exaggerated the hues of the undertones of the photo, so I'm guessing they either did it in their head or bumped the saturation up to get a closer look! I really love these paintings you shared and I definitely share your desire to paint/draw like that :)

quick psa bc apparently it still needs to be said

DO NOT REPOST ART

idk in which language i have to say this for y’all to understand

DO NOT REPOST ART

i dont CARE if you credited the artist i dont CARE if u found it on pinterest i don’t CARE if you found it on instagram i don’t CARE if u found it laying in the corner of the sidewalk i don’t give a shit. it’s simply not yours to take and post without permission

repeat with me. you can repost only. and i mean ONLY. if the artist has given you explicit permission BEFOREHAND, asking them after you reposted does absolutely nothing. nada. nisba. niente. zero. it’s even worse.

(and permissions to repost are not blanket statements. if an artist is ok with reposting it doesn’t mean that another artist will be too, if you have the go-ahead to repost a certain art doesn’t mean that the permission extends to the rest of the artist’s work as well. “oh but i thought—“ i don’t cARE. ASK EVERY TIME.)

PLEASE begging to show even a crumb of respect for artists/writers/creators and their work it really is not that difficult

otik! how is your character design so good? genuine question, I struggle with color n markings and differentiating between dragons of the same breed without relying entirely on color or horn shape

I feel like I'm repeating myself when saying this but use animal as references!

especially birds and bugs! There's a lot of diversity among avians and bug species. You see me doing a lot of animal based dragons on this blog and it's in general really good designing practice :)

Also shapes! Shapes are very important in designing!

Just a few examples:

Dragons with different shapes can be drastically different in appearance!

ayo do you have any tips on how to like your own art a bit more ? im currently like. my least favorite artist ever and the whole idea of being ur own fav artist is an anomaly to me 😭 either way I'm really happy for you tho !!!! congrats on becoming proud of ur amazing art <33

silkys tips on liking your own art more

  • stop having unfair expectations, both externally from other ppl and your own. if all your mind can do is doodle and scribble, instead of forcing yourself to work on a big or polished drawing, doodle and scribble away; if you dont feel like drawing a certain subject, draw whatever feels fun. art shouldnt be a chore. and if someone judges you for drawing whatever you want yoy should. ea t them
  • cringe culture isnt real
  • EXPERIMENT!!! experiment!!! experiment !! try new things!! new brushes or new effects or new textures or mediums, youd be surprised how many times i hated a work and after trying out new things on it, it actually turned out amazing and i gained more appreciation for it instead of scrapping it and throwing it in the reject pile
  • DONT compare yourself to anyone else. that one is hard to do, and it might take some time and mental effort to overcome, but once i stopped comparing myself to my favourite artists, and just enjoyed and consumed their art without any other feelings attached to them, i started seeing the same stuff i loved in their art in my OWN art without negatively comparing myself to them....
  • ....which brings me to this point. seek artists you love and dont stop yourself from becoming inspired by them and their style. i wouldnt be here today if i didnt constantly gush over a cool subject, composition, design, colour choices, etc etc. every artstyle is unique and made from countless other artstyles which in turn are made from even more countless other artstyles and i find that beautiful <3

these worked for me at least, hope one (or more) of these can help someone out there!! its possible to love your own art and its a wonderful feeling i think everyone on this damn earthe should experience

Don’t Add Fanfiction To Your Goodreads Shelf

Hi folks, I know some of you like to use Goodreads to track all your reading and don’t want to distinguish between books and fanfiction.

I am, however, begging you not to do this. It is extremely jarring and disconcerting to be a fic author and find your works somewhere in the wild where you did not personally put them. Fics are not books, are not published in the same way as books, and exist in a precarious legal space.

Please don’t attempt to elide the separation that exists between fandom and the world of official publishing.

Well this is much nicer than how I said it 🤣

[ID: tweet from @westiectweets — “PSA: Don’t Fucking Add Fic to Goodreads What the Fuck”]

update to add:

if you are a fic author and you find your fic on Goodreads, you can get it removed!

Here’s how:

  1. First, you gotta go to Goodreads support Contact Us page. Fill out the form as follows:
  2. What can we help you with? - Book records: adding or editing
  3. What device were you using? - this answer doesn’t matter
  4. Are you reaching out as a publisher, author, neither, or both? - Author
  5. What does your inquiry relate to? fanfiction recorded as book
  6. In the main body of the question, include the link(s) to the Goodreads record(s) for your fic(s)
  7. Hit submit!
  8. Someone should contact you pretty fast; I got a reply within a couple hours, even though it was a Sunday afternoon. They wanted me to confirm that it was a fanfic and asked me to provide proof of authorship which was kinda weird to answer but I was like “uhhh my tumblr is the same handle as my ao3 does that count?” and that seemed to go over just fine.
  9. Once they say they’ve deleted the records it should no longer be searchable although for whatever reason the direct links apparently still work. That’s Amazon for ya I guess.

I hope this helps some of my fellow fic authors!

hey guys please reblog this version

I’ve seen multiple people reblogging the original post with tags saying how they have struggled to get their fics taken down off Goodreads & I want folks to know that it IS possible

I had this happen once. It was very strange and somewhat disconcerting.

Glaze is out!

Tired of having your artwork used for AI training but find watermarks dismaying and ineffective?

Well check this out! Software that makes your Art look messed up to training AIs and unusable in a data set but nearly unchanged to human eyes.

I just learned about this. It's in Beta. Please read all the information before using.

Art thieves already hate it:

@churchydragon This is my first time ever making a tutorial, so hopefully it makes sense! Monty is my favorite and I wish he had more fanart, so I'd love for people be able to draw him a little easier. ❤️ If this helps you in any way, I'll be thrilled. That comic panel was such a pain in the neck. 😂

If there's something that doesn't make sense or needs clarification, feel free to ask! :3 ✨️ Mind, there's no right or wrong way to draw what you love, this is just my personal method.
