Void, they/them.
Please read pinned post.
TW for talk of religious trauma.
Not an anti-theism blog, as I still choose to identify as a Christian.
My Chemical Romance is a pretty good band.

Hello.

I am navigating through some religious trauma.

A word of warning: I DO reblog religious posts occasionally, as I still identify as Christian. However, I will tag it as 'christianity' and 'religion mention'

Please do not comment about anti-theism, reblog my posts as anti-theism, etc. (applies for anything along those lines as well.)

Both religious and non religious folk can interact. Just please don't come here to try to convince me to join or leave a religion. And please, tread lightly around topics like the r*pture.

I try my best to tag if I feel comfortable with a post being reblogged or not.

basic DNI criteria. It isn't anything personal, certain topics just make me very uncomfortable. Thank you for understanding! :]

If I block you, chances are it isn't personal. I was likely just uncomfy. So please don't worry.

I try to tag potential triggers, but feel free to ask for tags if I missed any. I don't mind.

UNICULT, NSFW, AND STARSEEDS DNI (/nm)

Updated my dni lol if you're NSFW and ESPECIALLY if you use religious trauma as a k/nk dni

im sure there are many reasons why so many people get that horrible “oh god i’m running out of time” feeling out of nowhere, but i’m 85% sure mine is based in a childhood where i was constantly told that god could either come back or decide it was my time to go at any moment. because that’s not a totally traumatic thought for a 12 year old who hasn’t even kissed a boy yet.

on starseeds (from the perspective of a spiritual witch)

- i made a rambly post about this in a reblog if you’re interested in reading that although it doesn’t make a lot of sense i had to go back and edit it a bunch so it was a bit clearer bc i’m p sure adhd fucks up my ability to be coherent ever

i don’t believe starseeds are real. i’m open to the idea of reincarnation happening beyond simply the planet you inhabit now- but specifically the idea of starseeds and the community surrounding it is something i’m not too keen on. now you don’t have to agree with me and that is fine i’m not trying to change anyone’s mind, if this post makes you dislike me you very well can feel free to unfollow and block me. i just want to share my opinion and maybe push some who aren’t very aware of this issue to do their own research

starseeds and those who identify as one can fall into a few general categories- i.e.

parents who refuse to identify their child’s mental illness and seek help for them, covering it up with the starseed idea and then putting immense pressure on their already struggling to function children
people who have adhd/ autism/ other mental illnesses who for whatever individual reason have not yet identified that in themselves and need some sort of label for their otherness and personal struggle to function in today’s world make sense
people with an inflated ego who likely have one of the before mentioned mental illnesses (or not) and want to feel as though they are better then everyone else, better than humans, and r e a l l y want to be part of the spiritual community but also want to be ✨special✨
there are likely other circumstances but those are the few main ones i’ve seen

this identity is extremely harmful to all who participate, it could feel nice to believe you just aren’t meant for this earth and that is why you feel so other, but trust me as someone whose been undiagnosed for so long- you likely have a mental illness that is causing this otherness. identifying as a starseed could be keeping you from a diagnosis and treatment that will make your life so much easier.

it’s even worse in parents who put it on their children, it causes life long issues for these kids whose brains already have more trouble than your average neurotypical to function in today’s world

even having adhd and having the pressure of being a “smart kid” is a fucking struggle, i couldn’t imagine my parents thinking i was an otherworldly being with a higher purpose that i HAVE to achieve

overall all this mindset could range from someone simply wanting to find deeper meaning to their struggles and otherness, to a cult like thought process that’s putting kids with autism and adhd at risk

i push all of you to do your own research and draw your own conclusions, and if you want more information there are likely hundreds of websites out there for you to read (and likely others who can form solid thoughts who’ve made posts about this you can read)
edit: discovered some communities around starseeds are practically cults, fu n

I just want you all to know- my blog has religious themes, but is absolutely a safe space for survivors of any sort of cult or high control group, or otherwise have trauma related to these things. Whether it be wellness cults, political cults like QAn*n, etc. You're all welcome here.

I found this really important tiktok about what to do if a Jehovah's Witness or Morman missionary comes to your door:

when spamton (g spamton) said "HEAVEN, ARE YOU WATCHING?!" and "THIS TIME, I LIVE FOR MYSELF! NO- ME AND MY FRIENDS!"

Yeah

I feel as if the religious trauma community doesn't pay much mind to those who have trauma and are still spiritual in one way or another. They see it as either atheism or nothing. I still consider myself a Christian, but I've also seen that treatment towards pagans, agnostics, etc. I've even seen the take of "spirituality and religion are mental illnesses", which.... getting into that is a whole post on it's own, tbh.

We're all trying to figure out where to go now, can't we be supportive of each other?

When did people decide conservative = holy.

I've had nights of awful self-gaslighting over things as simple as listening to punk rock or wearing something with a cartoonish skeleton on it. Nights of shaming myself for dressing in a way that isn't 'feminine'. Things that are entirely harmless. How am i less of a christian for not conforming to the American Dream™️? Where does the Bible say that??????

You want to live to be old,

but the time of tribulation is coming.

You want to live to see your friends and family grow old. You want to drive a car. You want to live to see yourself forget your own age. You want to live by yourself. You want to be more than a child. You want to make bad decisions. You want to learn how to do better. You want to find purpose in life. You want to know who you are before it’s all over. You don’t want it to be over. You want to live to see your last day. You want to live to fall in love. You want to live.

But you are the chosen. You should be honored.
