Ok, actually. For personal reasons, the deal's off. Sorry.

A lot of people genuinely think that being transgender is a sexual fetish and that’s why they think it’s inappropriate for us to be around children or for children to learn about us or for children to transition. It’s similar to why they don’t want gay people around their children.

Basic logic doesn’t matter to them. If this was just a sex thing I wouldn’t commit to it this hard. My day to day existence as myself isn’t any more inherently sexual than the day to day life of a cishet man. Same goes for trans women, non binary people, and gnc cis ppl that choose to physically transition.

We all know this. A lot of bigots will also claim to know this. But this was the official explanation of and the public’s general understanding of trans people for decades. That we have a sexual fetish we’re going way too far with. There’s still older trans people who self-identify that way because leaning into these misconceptions was the only way they were able to get healthcare back in the day. These ideas are deeply engrained into society and don’t vanish overnight.

This is what a lot of people think about when they see us. Sex. It’s all about the sex part to them. Our day to day existence is inherently involving other people in our fetish to them. And yeah. Transitioning can lead to better satisfaction with your sex life. But that’s mostly because it leads to better satisfaction with every part of your life. But again. Basic logic doesn’t matter to bigots. But learning this explained a lot to me about why they react to us the way they do. It is a dislike of things they don’t understand, yes, but it’s also decades of everyone assuming that we’re just publicizing a fetish we have and making it everyone else’s business.

You’re not gonna easily convince bigots. Bigotry is based on emotional reaction and peoples emotional reactions aren’t easily changed.

However, knowing what the general public is thinking just under the surface can be useful when getting information out there. That’s why trans women are women, trans men are men, non binary people are non binary has become a rallying cry and repeated mantra for the trans rights movement in recent years. We’ve been fighting inch by inch to change the narrative. I’m not a woman pretending to be a man for my own twisted sexual satisfaction. I am a man. When I’m cooking, when I’m on the bus, when I’m pissing, when I’m hanging out with my cousins. Every second of my life I’m not a woman. Not just when I’m thinking about sex.

And changing the narrative has been working. Slowly. Just the fact that many young people today don’t know about the existence of this stupid take that used to be the standard explanation is a win. The fact that official psychiatric boards recommend we be allowed to transition is a win.

But the people making laws restricting our rights are still thinking about this even if they say they’re not. We need to keep this as a stupid braindead take. Anyone who thinks this needs to be seen as an idiot. It cannot become a mainstream talking point again.

Oh and quick note for writers:

One difference between this strike and the last one is that there are a lot more fellowships targeted at early career tv writers than there used to be (there have always been some, but the fellowship model is way more commonplace these days)

Studios are about to make a ton more of these opportunities and advertise them widely as a way to break into the industry, and they will be very specific about the fellowship not technically counting as a writers room or a tv job

What you do in regards to the strike is your business, but the WGA has been very clear that anyone who scabs will be BANNED FROM JOINING THE UNION FOR LIFE. That means even if you get hired, that's no health & pension and no union protections for your entire career. This shit is serious

So please please double check and dig into any new submission opportunities you see in the next weeks. Playwrights especially be careful - many studios are finding their writers through play scripts these days so be very careful about how and where your work is being shared

I mean, probably, unless the developers specifically coded something in to censor slurs, there is literally nothing stopping the ai from saying them. Like, there is no critical thinking stopping the ai from giving a second thought to using a slur, which is important to recognize because I do fear there’s a potential for people to act like the ai is being inherently bigoted when it’s more akin to a random child hearing the word out of context and repeating it.

An ‘unlimited’ annual pass with free parking is $1600/year (up from $1400 when he completed his record 2012-2020). And yeah, that’s over $116 a month and not how I’d spend my money but it’s not obscene.

Plus, he’s an older dude with free time every day. DL is a safe venue to walk around and kill time if all you have is time to kill, and from the article it seems he’s built quite the social network of Disney regulars & cast members. So good for him.

Disney considers AP holders parasites, clogging the parks, taking up space that could be better utilized by Big Spending out-of-town visitors. Which is why the price for an AP has gone up so dramatically ALONG WITH a zillion new restrictions like blackout days + reservation requirements.

Up until 2013 or so it was common for local families to buy their kids Annual Passes then drop them off at the park every day during summer as cheap childcare. Seriously, $100/month is a bargain.

thats just the admission and parking though, the park tends to be pretty strict on how much food and drink you can bring in and none of the options inside are cheap, even with the like 10% discount before tax and tips the annual pass holder gets.

But AP holders usually don’t buy food & drink inside the parks... unless you’re DisneyFoodBlog or Jenny Nicholson. Another reason Disney hates on passholders.

Most AP holders hit one of the kazillion affordable restaurants outside the park on their way in or out, then carry a water bottle once inside to stay hydrated. And most visits aren’t the all-day-long thing out of towners do; AP folk will kill an hour or two, ride Indiana Jones or the Matterhorn then leave.

The guy in the article appears to have visited once a day just to walk a lap or two for exercise. He wasn’t staying all day, dealing with hotel room reservations, rental car, airline tickets, souvenirs, or any of the expenses a tourist would have.

The real insanity is how the US is so lacking in safe public third places that for some people, an annual pass to Disney is their best shot at having a walkable outdoor space and some semblance of community.

UPDATE: the npc was in fact a shapechanged adult black dragon with violence and conquest in his heart. however he did let merry put a friendship bracelet on him and then when she was like “hm okay how big is your wrist in dragon form” he was like “you wanna see?” and then turned into a dragon and let merry measure him for a second, dragon-sized friendship bracelet. the dm described him afterwards as being deeply confused as to why he did this or let any of this happen to him. call that the merry effect

this guy is now a recurring npc because merry was SO determined to make him her friend that it actually somehow worked. he cast dream to talk to one of my party members like “hey…how’s it going…how are the tieflings in the party…not that i care…also i’m not lonely. bye” and the player was like “is he still wearing merry’s friendship bracelet in this dream” and the dm was like “yeah…”
