Don't post anything with specific registration numbers on it, kids! This includes driver's licenses (we're so proud you can drive now, but don't show us your name, face, address, and driver number!), passports (travel is fun, but just post pictures of what you saw after the trip is over!), train/plane/concert/show tickets (see above!), or credit cards oh my god people are posting their entire credit card online that will put you in massive debt and screw your credit score for life please do not!!!

AND!! And! This also includes posting pictures of barcodes, especially on boxes from things you’ve ordered from Amazon, UPS, etc etc etc.
Barcodes are scannable. I occasionally have to do this for clients at work, and no, I do not work for Amazon, FedEx or UPS or anything like that. At the very least, barcodes contain your home (shipping) address. Do not post images that show a straight on picture of a barcode - the picture of the barcode may or may not be scannable, by people who may or may not work for the company you ordered from.
And absolutely positively do not post pictures containing a tracking number! You don’t even need a barcode reader to decode that information.
And license plates. DO NOT POST photos of your car where your license or registration sticker are visible! This goes for friends' vehicles that might show up in your photos too. Don't post photos where your street number or house/apartment building number are visible and turn off geotagging/ location tagging for photos on your phone. The Internet Elders warn you about these things for really good reasons.
there’s been a really bizarre trend in the past couple years of TERFS/radfems getting pissed off about biology posts. posts about the bilateral gyandromorph cardinal (one half male, one half female), posts about older hens beginning to crow and act like roosters, posts about animals being animals. and it’s hilarious because they interpret these posts as some kind of agenda. no! these are animals not choosing any gender identity or sexuality but being born into bodies they have no control over. weird how that happens in nature huh

Of course you do, they’re fantastic. They come in two models, one with tan head stripes and one with white head stripes. But the gene that controls stripe color also has a bunch of other effects! It’s a supergene!
To briefly sum up a grueling amount of fieldwork by people who were probably not getting paid nearly enough, basically the tan-stripes are nurturers and the white-stripes are fighters, across both males and females. White-stripes chase away intruders more, tan-stripes bring more food to the nest. Tan-stripe females bring more bugs to their chicks than white-stripes, white-stripe females are more aggressive and sing more.
There is a reason Jordan Peterson picked lobsters, not sparrows, to get all MRA about, because the sparrow ladies are ALL about the tan-striped males. Sexy nurturing tan-stripe males are immediately grabbed up by the more aggressive white-stripe females (who are also dead sexy if you’re a sparrow.) Then the remaining birds pair off, so you get tan and white couples reproducing in virtually all cases—nurturing male with aggressive female, hyper-aggressive male with hyper-nurturing female.*
And this is good!** Because it turns out that they can have a tough time if they don’t mate across stripes—white x white sparrows often come out undersized if they come out at all. There was some cool recent genetic sequencing and one particular chromosome is way funky, inverted, and scrambled in the white-stripes. So now every white-stripe has a funky chromosome and a normal one, and every tan-stripe has two normal ones.***
This is all really unique and means that white-throated sparrows effectively have four sexes, because they now only reproduce with a member of the opposite stripe and sex chromosome, and their offspring may be any one of the four sexes. The stripes have essentially become a second sex chromosome.
The geneticists involved think the funky chromosome probably showed up as a weird import from somebody gettin’ jiggy with another sparrow species. Presumably this created a hypersexy female whose white head stripes brought all the boys to the yard, and very unusually, that bred true.
Is that cool or what?!
*No word on whether there is a resulting sparrow tradwife media genre.

I guess what really bothers me about holding “story over rules” as a guiding principle in tabletop RPGs is that it’s misidentifying the actual problem.
In tabletop RPGs, rules produce stories. That’s kind of the medium’s whole thing. Any given set of rules is going to encode certain assumptions about how the game ought to be played, and obviously the kind of stories the rules want to produce and the kind of stories you want to tell are never going to be in perfect agreement unless you designed the whole system from scratch (and generally not even then!), but if you find yourself disagreeing with the story the rules want to produce often enough and severely enough that it makes sense to adopt “story over rules” as a guiding principle, what that means is that you’re using the wrong set of rules for the kind of game that you want to play.
Any time I see somebody talking like telling a story and playing a game are intrinsically opposing priorities and it’s the GM’s job to negotiate that fundamental opposition, what that tells me is that this person has spent their whole life running and playing systems that are just wildly unsuited for their preferred mode of play

Raise your hand if you’re just incredibly fucking tired of people taking things the Green Brothers say out of context to make fun of some of the straight white dudes that use that privilege to their advantage to help marginilized people.
The Green brothers speak out about racial injustice, financial inequality, homophobia, housing issues (including homelessness), mental illness (ESPECIALLY John, who has gone through intense depression and anxiety in the past), and many other topics.
They provide dozens of free resources for students online, specifically Crash Course, and every year during the holidays they donate thousands of dollars to multiple charities.
They actively acknowledge their privilege and use it to lift other people up and provide resources for those who don’t have the same privilege.
I’m sure many people don’t know this, but John and Hank CREATED VidCon. They’re the reason VidCon exists today. They were some of the ORIGINAL YouTubers, and they’re one of the only platforms on YouTube that has stayed true to their original content idea.
People LOVE to hate on them. They love it. John was sent so many death threats and harassed so much that he gave up all social media but YouTube for a long time. The reason? People claimed he was glorifying cancer (which if you’ve actually READ the book, he doesn’t) and that he was a “pervert” for writing about high schoolers (as if LITERALLY every single book about a high schooler isn’t written by someone older than 18 I mean Jesus Christ people). Hes spoken on this a couple times but stopped because people just ignored him and dragged his name through the gutters.
The hate on Hank is, from what I’ve seen, fairly recent - he was kind of the forgotten brother for a while. Until he published a book where the main character was bisexual. And he said positive things about trans people. And then suddenly “Hank Green is just a dumb man and his opinions are trash.” Almost like people didn’t like that the “science man” was openly supportive of homosexuality
The Green brothers acknowledge when they get things wrong. They speak out on injustice, on inequality, and they always, ALWAYS try to do what’s right. They are some of the most wholesome straight white men I’ve ever come across in life in general, and it infuriates me that people reduce them to “okay? okay” and “oh didnt he do Crash Course?”

Somewhere along the line some people saw ‘people with more privilege in certain areas are less likely to be as aware of their advantages because they are not forced to be aware of the issues constantly’, and somehow read it as ‘if someone ticks enough Privilege Boxes then they’re a Bad Person by default and I’m allowed to bully them’, and those people are a blight on the community.
pretty much every revenue-generating project done by John and Hank Green has some or all of its profits donated to Partners in Health, to decrease the infant and maternal mortality rate in Sierra Leone. I can’t remember everything their money has done (they have videos about it on their youtube channel) but they’ve helped build (renovate?) a NICU and get it running water. this includes Awesome Socks Club, Awesome Coffee Club, Project 4 Awesome, and even the ads on their videos.
I do find it funny that people are reacting to the yellow zord’s animal change like Hasbro genuinely doesn’t know what swordfish are rather than it simply being that corporations can easily sell sharks to kids. This isn’t even the first time PR has changed a sentai animal into a shark.

i was gonna make a post like "this pride month, pour one out for the polyam folks for having the worst flag"
(and like, i know theres been a bunch of flags, but this is the one i've seen the most)
however! when i went to google the polyam flag, i found this website, where they apparently held a vote for a new flag that accurately represented the community (and, presumably, didn't look like absolute dogshit), and they apparently settled on this one!
i hadn't seen it before, but I think it looks really nice and if you check their website, it seems like they have good reasoning/backing/community support, so I really hope I see it around more!!!
