@vizthevenom

earlier this month it was 120 degrees in Australia , but yeah lets continue to mock those trying to save us in the 12 years we have left to slow climate change’s effects.

What is the worst thing that could happen if we listen to scientists and change our ways, and then it turns out they were lying?

Slowly dying in a mad max hell world to own the libs I guess.

this is literally why scientists stopped calling it “global warming” and started calling it “climate change”

because these dense motherfuckers couldn’t get it through their heads that an increase in the average global temperature is, has, and will lead to an increase in extreme weather events including goddamn polar vortexes.

“Fner ner ner, look at all the snow outside, what of your global warming now?? CHECK AND MATE SCIENTISTS so much for your fancy degrees and decades of research” of fucking course you’re still gonna get a winter you goddamn dingdongs! The Earth still has a fucking axial tilt – there is always going to be a portion of the year that is colder because that’s when you’re further away from the sun!

(unless you live between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn, in which case you’re at more or less the same distance from the sun all year, but presumably then you aren’t pointing to snowfall as proof positive that scientists are spearheading a conspiracy to…i don’t even fucking know. reduce emissions? meanspiritedly destroy the fossil fuel industry, which is gentle and blameless and certainly has never been linked to enormous environmental disasters or long-term health concerns or…?)

Conservatives will be the fucking death of us

Also the reason for these extremely cold temperatures happening and doing so more often is directly a result of literal global warming. Due to rising temperatures (thanks to climate change caused by humans which is real and happening right now and fuck anyone who says otherwise), the Arctic sea ice has been melting more and more without replenishing itself during winter. To make matters worse, the more ice that melts, the more ocean is exposed, which absorbs (rather that reflecting like ice does) the sun’s energy, further heating up.

This rise in polar temperatures is the reason the polar vortex is currently above the US and making Day After Tomorrow a reality

For those who don’t know, a polar vortex is an area of low pressure that likes to chill around the poles (both north and south but the north is more relevant here). These areas of cold, dense air are usually kept in check by jet streams: long, narrow, fast flowing air currents caused by two masses of air that are different in density/pressure/temperature etc. meeting.

The polar jet streams in particular are caused by the meeting of cold, dense low pressure polar air and warm high pressure air from the tropics. It’s usually pretty strong, especially during winter, as the temperature gradient between the poles and the tropics is rather large. The bigger the difference, the stronger the wind, and the less likely that polar air escapes southwards.

However, due to the warming around the north pole thanks to the melting sea ice and warming oceans, this gradient is decreasing.

This results in a weaker polar jet stream, which allows the vortex to meander all over the place, such as down south into the US, bringing the cold dense air with it.

Please go forth and use this information to make sure the idiots using this cold snap as piss poor evidence that climate change isn’t real know that they’re wrong and they should feel bad. Also maybe tie them down and make them watch this video (which is where I got these gifs from) which is a good (but terrifying) explanation of how extreme weather events are becoming and will become more common as a result of anthropogenic climate change.

All of these memes express different ideas and are used for different purposes, leading to a more nuanced expression of the idea/statement: “Double D’s Book of Facts” aggressively presents the statement as truth. “Peter Parker Reading a Book” is a self-contained comic rather than emphasizing the statement to the audience, with the book-reader being the target of the statement rather than the audience. “Change my mind” is confrontational and implies the statement is deeply held and controversial, sometimes satirizing the statement itself. “you guys are just mean” is frank and expresses that the opposing opinion is irrational.

best video game generation?

6th Gen. PS2 Gamecube and Xbox

  • Consoles were nearly the same in graphics.
  • Tons of different genres
  • 3D Platformers and Extreme Sports still thrived
  • We finally figured out 3D movement by this time
  • Also it was just before we relied so much on downloadable content

The only thing bad about the era was the many 3rd Person Shooters with weird controls. It’s not until late into that generation when Resident Evil 4 figured out 3rd Person shooting.

Net Neutrality is in DEEP Trouble

Now that I got your attention with this video…

The FCC decided to go ahead with the vote to remove the Net Neutrality rules that the Obama administration set up.

As you can see, this is what the major ISPs wants to do if they have their way. This can do a few things:

  1. Stiff new innovations, making it harder for smaller companies to compete.
  2. Silence independent voices.
  3. Potentially putting up a “walled garden” on a wide scale.
  4. Make distribution of information harder for low-income people.

Imagine this website, if you will, only working on Verizon networks while AT&T customers are charged a little extra, or have slower access to the same information.

Remember, your ISP owns content providers and may give top-shelf, VIP treatment to their own things while stiffing everyone else. We need to address this.

Now, some of you may recall earlier this year that John Oliver and a lot of other people, companies (and yours truly) did a rallying cry to tell the FCC to back off the Net Neutrality rules, which resulted in millions of comments on their proposal.

However, there’s been a few problems… in short, it seems that the FCC chose to not listen due to “inconsistancies”.

Sidenote: Tumblr isn’t the best place to talk “long-form” so if you’re interested in looking at these notes, here are some places to go to.

  1. https://medium.com/@AGSchneiderman/an-open-letter-to-the-fcc-b867a763850a - “ Specifically, for six months my office has been investigating who perpetrated a massive scheme to corrupt the FCC’s notice and comment process through the misuse of enormous numbers of real New Yorkers’ and other Americans’ identities. Such conduct likely violates state law — yet the FCC has refused multiple requests for crucial evidence in its sole possession that is vital to permit that law enforcement investigation to proceed.”
  2. https://twitter.com/BanditRandom/status/933066570741383169 - A twitter thread about how the Wall Street Journal collected someone’s information to sign in FAVOR of Net Neutrality.
  3. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/09/fake-net-neutrality-comments-at-heart-of-lawsuit-filed-against-fcc/ - “Fake” net neutrality comments at heart of lawsuit filed against FCC

So, what can we do about this?

There are a few things you can do to help slow down this nightmare situation.

You can’t just “like” this note, you have to reblog to spread, but more importantly, you have to TAKE action!

1) Make calls to your representatives - https://5calls.org/issue/defend-fcc-net-neutrality - this website will tell you who to call and an easy-to-follow script so that you know exactly what to say.

2) You can support groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the ACLU and Free Press who are fighting to keep Net Neutrality:

3) You can add a comment to the proposal using John Oliver’s URL at http://www.gofccyourself.com

4) Write a letter to your representative. Not an email, an actual, snail mail letter.

Let’s all band together and do something about this. Our future of sharing information, building innovation, nurturing voices and creativity depends on your actions now!

I know it may sound hopeless. Look at when they announced this (you probably didn’t know they announced this on Monday when you’re busy getting ready to for the holiday!). But if we say it with one voice to BACK OFF THE NET, we maybe able to make a difference.

Hi.

I’m the Original Poster and I did my best to keep this brief with sources you can see for yourself.

However, with misinformation being a thing, I decided to amend to this to give you some extra pointers as to why I was specific about these steps and not recommend things like strictly writing to the FCC.

1) Calling your reps and writing them is more effective than doing it via email. It’s been stated over, and over, and over again. Sadly, letters and phone calls are more effective.

2) Signing a petition can help, but without a way to verify you, it can be just as useful as shouting on Twitter (and will they look at Twitter? Nope.) It’s not totally useless, but it will not totally do the job.

See, if the FCC can use “bots” as an excuse (look at the sources in the original post), what makes you think a senator and representatives won’t? This is why “calling your rep” is the first action step and “writing your reps” is the last.

3) Regardless, the non-profit organizations’ job (the one I posted about) is to spread awareness BEYOND YOUR NETWORK. Think of them as a private army you’re recruiting for this one mission. You can only tell so many people and some of you don’t live in the United States, which makes it even harder!

4) BTW, you’re not just talking about this on Tumblr, are you? You have to talk to people on your other social networks as well. They are affected by things as well. Don’t want to talk? Post a link to here and let me do the talking for you.

5) While I have done the research for you, please do your own in conjunction with this. That way, you can be better informed, especially when talking about this to other people.

6) Oh and one more thing since I did neglect this in my last post. I forgot to post the “deadline” - the actual day they will vote. Well…

We have until December 14, 2017!

So, let’s mobilize! Organize! Transform and roll out!

Okay, maybe not the last one…

But make the calls to your reps! Scroll up and do your part, no matter which side you’re on!

P.S. - I also posted examples of how Net Neutrality is helping us in the United States.

DO NOT SIT BACK AND EXPECT “EVERYONE ELSE” TO DO THIS.

IF EVERYONE THINKS “EVERYONE ELSE” IS DOING THE WORK, THEN NO ONE IS.

IF YOU WANT TO SAVE NET NEUTRALITY, YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR PART.

this is what i did today instead of work on that little animatic or answer any ask blog questions: i drew the toons into images i have saved on my lampblack pinterest board… obviously not the humans though, because like… ya know. in my imagination, it’s how things would look. if i had a realistic art style lol. as always, bianca belongs to @majorpepperidge and betty belongs to @131-di

in order:

  • A Király utca - Kinszki Imre (1929)
  • Montmartre Paris 1930’s by André Kertész
  • 1931. Airship Columbia over Empire State Building
  • Martin Munkácsi :: Dancers in Seville, Spain, 1930
  • Klösz György: A Reitter Kávéház az Operaháznál, Budapest, 1896
  • Art Déco staircase ‘Restaurant Prunier’, in Paris

I was just asked today, this VERY day, why doesn’t Cartoon Network show Infinity Train on TV. Well guess what? I just got an email a couple hours ago that said Infinity Train will be airing on TV this Saturday! Stuff feels different when you watch it on a TV. It’s more “real” in a way. Watch it if you’re able!

WELCOME TO HELIOS. A NEW HOPE FOR 2D ANIMATION

This is a preview of HELIOS, a new animation system created by us, in response to today’s production demands.

Helios is a custom-made Toon Boom Harmony module that allows to rotate a 2D character in real time in any angle on a 360 sphere . It also controls every facial feature of said character:

*  Allows to change the mouth phoneme and keep in in rotation

* Allows dual and individual control of  the brows, and keeps their shape in rotation

* Control over the eyelashes,

* Can handle “Don Bluthian” hair, which is one of the most complex 2D designs there is.

* Controls dual and individual blinks and keeps them in rotation

* You will not loose any Toon  Boom basic functionality. That means you will be 100% able to still do squash, stretch, image substitutions and smears.

This is the biggest contribution we made  to animation in our careers.

Helios is not something  that you can  just reproduce in Toon Boom, but a very sophisticated plugin with thousands of lines of code.

It has the potential of speeding the animation process 5 to 8 times, according to our calculations, in between other conveniences.

We are pending a test for the Oculus with 2D characters.True  classical toons.

We chose Mrs Brisby for being a classic character, to give us a challenge of maximal difficulty.  What you are seeing here is 95% complete, minus a few patches. We are aware of slight breaks in the character, this is the first ever Helios construction and thus, we are are still testing the limits of the system and figuring the pipeline out.

With Helios in the game, 2D animation can catch up with the speed of the 3D pipeline, at sweet last.

Our dream? To make Heios available to everybody who loves animation, but I must warn it will NOT be Open Source. The tool is almost ready, and soon the distribution Odisey will begin.

If you want to contribute to this project, you can help us make it happen  through Patreon

Every pledge from here to February will be invested in this project.

Sit down, kids.

Let me tell you why this:

is such a huge load of BS

FIRST OF ALL

The above pictures range from 1923-1999

the pictures below are from like 2011-2016

so um, yeah, of course 70 years worth of cartoons has more diversity than 5 years. It’s freaking 70 years of changing styles.

that’s like comparing the clothing styles of 2016 to the clothing styles of all of time and saying “w0w look ev3rytHing loOks the SaMe now smh!!1!”

*clears throat* Let’s break this down.

I’ve compiled a couple examples of TV cartoons through the decades.

1920s:

1930s:

1940s:

1950s:

1960s:

1970s:

1980s:

and the good ol’ 1990s:

The point is styles change. And styles in the same time period tend to look really the same. Art goes through phases. Just look at fashion and architecture styles.

The point is that cartoons aren’t bad because they look similar. It’s just a visual trend. In ten years, cartoons will all look the same in a totally different way.

TLDR: “CalArts-ifying” is not a real thing. Stop.

so sorry for the huge long post

Y que queden las cosas claras para todos
