We are posting this sad photo so that people will SPEAK UP when they see dogs outside in this weather and CALL so this doesn’t happen again. This dog was found on the street by police frozen. No ID, no tag and no one in the neighborhood would speak. Probably broke off a chain because it was freezing cold and could not find shelter, weak from hunger, so he died alone, hungry and cold. Please share and take action for any dogs left outside in extreme termps like this week. I know it is difficult to believe but we are still receiving reports about dogs left outside tonight. I am one of the many officers at Shore Animal Control and I am absolutely outraged that domestic pets are still being left outside in these extreme temps. We just received a call from a town we do not service and their animal control and police did not consider a dog outside chained an emergency. If you cannot reach your police, animal control, call your mayor. If he does not think that 17 degrees is an animal emergency, tell HIM to go sleep outside with the dog. PLEASE do not take no for an answer. We are up all night tonight giving people advice. Ask to speak to a supervisor if the police will not respond. MOST towns in Cape May County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center and Atlantic County have extreme weather ordinances to protect pets. Once again, speak to supervisors or mayors until pets are brought inside when below 32 degrees. Look up your ordinances so you have the information. We have had many dogs die each year when these extreme weather conditions hit. PLEASE do not let this happen in your town.
