I’m very serious when I say that never in the past centuries of Beauty and The Beast getting retold and rebranded over and over and OVER again, has so much originality and GUTS and depth as Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth as a romance arc. And I fear it will take years for me to find a much better version(s) than them.

I’m a longtime BaTB enjoyer. And this argument includes my favorite classic Jane Eyre and Hades and Persephone myth, Howls’ moving Castle (and Goblin!)

Like really, WHOSE doing like Jaime and Brienne?! Who has the guts making both of the leads of the arc simultaneously the beauty AND the beast? And instead of them ‘trapped’ in a cursed castle or them ‘break’ the curse by ‘true love’, they’re trapped in the societal norm and GENDER norms and oath AND Knighthood and trapped by people they love deeply because they always been someone who loves MORE. The curse will be broken when they let themselves free from it by THEMSELVES after inspired EACHOTHER!!!

And having the woman canonically the ugly one with beautiful interior and the man is beautiful but ugly inside?! And both of them very complex individuals with so much depth and nuance…

and Brienne’s past with roses and Jaime getting called the Lion of Lannister… I love literature EXACTLY.
