Lesbianism At It's Finest

@violently-antisocial-blog

An Incomplete List of the Animals my Grandpa brought home over the course of his 67-year marriage to Gandma:

  • Annabell, a solid white and completely deaf pit bull that used to let mom draw on her belly
  • The World’s Ugliest Tom Cat, who turned out to be the cuddiest teddy bear of an animal
  • Cocker spaniel named “Captain”
  • Stupid, the Cat
  • Litter of baby raccoons
  • Three more cats
  • A completely bald and extremely anxious canary that sang beautifully, but only at 4 AM
  • Baby Squirrel that grew up in the house and then refused to move out
  • A Genuine Thoroughbred Racehorse who was a spectacular athelete but had a habit of running races in the wrong direction.  Benny turned out to be a terrific trail horse instead.
  • Turtle
  • Snapping Turtle
  • A bucket full of 43 goldfish left over from the fair.  Mom counted once they were all in the bathtub in the backyard with the snapping turtle.
  • Another cocker spaniel named “Major”, who had the tremendous talent of eating green beans silently
  • Red-tailed hawk he found on the highway, and sucessfully nursed back to health and released.
  • Dummy, Son of Stupid
  • Strange, the dog that lived under the porch and only came into the house at night.
  • An “abandoned” baby deer.
  • Spooky, an alleged dog.
  • Joey the parakeet whose tricks were  1. drinking tea out of a tiny cup 2. threatening to peck out people’s eyes 3. wearing hats
  • A Really Big Toad he found behind the factory, because the other auto workers were discussing using it for target practice.  Mr. Grumpity was guardian of the rosebed for several years and granny’s (his mother) favorite animal he ever brought home.
  • Gretchen, a St. Bernard that had to be shaved from her prior owner’s neglect, and spent a week hiding from sight with such success in the house that they thought she’d run away.
  • Arson, Burglary and Murder, three frankly adorable little kittens.  They did not change the names, much to the regret of the cop who lived three doors down.
  • Yet another Cocker Spaniel, named “Colonel”
  • Cardinal (bird)
  • Canada Goose (Demon)
  • Once in the nursing home, he had a “pet” 12-point whitetail buck that would come to his window to be fed corn and get headskritches, inexplicably named “Florence”

The marriage only ended because thier time on earth did. He never kept an animal Grandma wouldn’t allow and if anything she was worse about it. She was the one who brought home a tarantula.

“One of my favourite Steve Jobs stories was the time the engineers working on the iPod brought their finished prototype to him in his office. He said it was too big, they needed to make it smaller. They said it was as small as they could make it, it couldn’t be made any smaller. So he took the prototype over to his aquarium and dropped it in. The iPod sank to the bottom, and as it did, tiny little bubbles came out. ‘See those bubbles,’ he asked. ‘They’re air inside the iPod. Make it smaller.’

“Another story about Steve Jobs was when they brought the prototype for the iPad 2 to his office. The engineers told him it was faster than the first iPad. He took it over to his aquarium and dropped it in. ‘Look how slowly it sank,’ he told them. ‘Make it faster.’

“One time a newly hired intern had been sent out to get Steve a sandwich. When she brought it to him, he looked at it. ‘I thought I ordered the beef on rye,’ he asked. She told him it was indeed beef on rye. He took it over to his fish tank and dropped it in. ‘Does that look like beef on rye?’

“He was always dropping things in that fish tank. We couldn’t stop him. We told him he had to stop, he wouldn’t listen. It was full of stuff that shouldn’t be in an aquarium.

“The fish had all died years ago. One had been crushed under an early generation iMac. The others were all poisoned. He didn’t care.

“It got to the point where there was no room for anything in the fish tank. When we emptied it after he died, we found a body in there. We never found out who it was.”

I’m a foster mother to 100 baby spiders

Okay so the other day I was taking the trash out and my nail caught on a spider egg sac!

Unfortunately it split open and all the little eggs came tumbling out and luckily landed in a box.

After getting them all in a glass, I was left with several questions, no answers and guilt! But I asked in a few spider groups and got a tutorial on making a spider incubator!

Sooo! We went through a few different stages of mini Orbeez

And by mini I mean REALLY mini!

But finally we started seeing development!

See the little white dot?! That’s a wee lil baby!

Then more started showing up!

Then the day came!! Little legs started showing up!!

And then!!!

Today I just went to look and!!

!!!

MY BABIES ARE HATCHING!

Update

They’re perfect in every way and I love my dumb spider babies.

This is Joseph. He’s learning to walk properly.

It might not seem like a big deal, but the ability to recognize that the face in the mirror is your own makes us part of a pretty exclusive club in the animal kingdom. Humans obviously can do it (from about 15 months of age), and so can apes, monkeys, dolphins, elephants, and some birds. Now a fish species has passed the mirror test for the first time, which may suggest that the animals are smarter than we give them credit for. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute, the University of Konstanz and Osaka City University conducted the experiment with a species called the cleaner wrasse. The team put a colored mark on each fish in a place that can only be seen in reflection, then held up a mirror. The idea was to check whether the fish could tell they were looking at themselves and would try to clean the mark off. Since these fish are naturally in the habit of cleaning parasites off other fish, they’re fairly well-adapted to spotting marks like these. Sure enough, after seeing their reflection the fish rubbed themselves on hard surfaces, trying to clean the marks away. That suggests that the creature understood that the reflected image was itself and not a neighboring fish – an ability that was long thought to be beyond their capabilities.
