My impression of what dentists do when I wanted to be one as a kid is set up the dental exam room and brush peoples teeth
if we lived in a world where u had to do the career u were first interested in as a child what would u be doing, id be a firefighter
You know if you delve too deep it doesn't really matter if you were also delving too greedily or not. And if you delve too greedily but not too deep realistically you're gonna be fine.
My interpretation of Lestat and Armand’s relationship is that they are foils who, on some semi-conscious level, are aware of being foils — experience some level of “recognition of self through the other” whenever they encounter each other and act accordingly. Particularly they’re both people who NEED to be in relationship with others, need attention and recognition from people around them to understand themselves. To some degree, need to be the center of attention, need someone else to be obsessed with them to feel like they have any worth. And that’s the problem right? We can’t BOTH be the recipient of everybody’s love and adoration! This coven isn’t big enough for the both of us etc
And I actually have kind of a different read on Armand’s desire to make Lestat love him than a lot of people I see talking about it. I don’t really think that is rooted in like, organic infatuation and desire for Lestat on Armand’s part. I think Armand experiences the same “kill your double” impulse that Lestat does when they first meet, it’s just that Armand’s weapon of choice and of necessity are manipulation and seduction. He literally can’t settle things w brute force like Lestat can because he’s physically small. So I think Armand’s attempts to make Lestat fall in love with him, catastrophic failures that they are, are Armand’s attempts to neutralize a threat and get control over the situation. It’s the only method of wresting control and power out of an interpersonal dynamic that has EVER worked for him
This is all forms of collaboration
This is the most honest comment I’ve ever seen
why was anne bothering to write bad sex scenes when this existed
Masterpiece theater wolf hall is like. comfort media to me and also at the same time it’s fundamentally a meditation on abuse and coercion. No I can’t explain this
I think what I like so much about it and find so weirdly comforting about it despite how emotionally grisly it gets is that it’s like. A story about being caught in an abusive and coercive relationship where the abusive character isn’t really the focus? Henry is occasionally charming and occasionally terrifying and mostly just kind of mildly loathsome and pathetic. But it’s not really about him. It’s about Cromwell and Anne and how they both are navigating the power dynamics of this relationship they’re in where if they make the guy mad enough they WILL die and they know that and everyone else knows it too. It’s about the two of them both using all their cunning and strength of will to try to win at an unwinnable game. It’s about survival until it isn’t anymore
And even if they never make another season I still feel like that arc is complete at the end of s2 because I feel like Cromwell and Anne see so much of themselves in one another that when Anne dies it’s kind of like Cromwell dies too. If there was some part of him that was in denial about what’s was going to happen to him eventually that part dies with Anne
I think what I find comforting is the dignity afforded to those characters in really abject circumstances

ancient greek word of the day: κακοθερής (kakotherēs), unfitted to endure summer heat
this literally means “bad at summer” pass it on
Reblog if you, too, are bad at summer
That time Triple H accidentally came out as bisexual and immediately regretted it
Rare L for the Bilinguals who cannot use this line
I feel kind of bad that eventually I just turn the reblogs off on every post because I’m tired of getting notes on it. Like no one did anything wrong I’m just tired of getting notifications from randos sorry…
honestly when people see a post complaining about characters from the past seeming anachronistic in their attitudes and they go “but I don’t want to read about bigotry!” that’s exactly what I mean by having contempt for people in the past. assuming that someone must either share your exact values and worldview and your ways of articulating them or be a bigot
there have always been people who acknowledged and fought for the rights of subjugated populations and there are bigots NOW
