btw! I was made aware that many people don't know that we're boycotting Eurovision this year, so.
don't watch the stream, don't engage with the videos, don't post it about it on social media using hashtags that are going to trend. whatever you're getting from the show isn't worth it
Neil Gaiman's favorite trope
i think “oh my childhood doesn’t even impact me that much” & then im Afraid To Sit in The Living Room
Real and implied birds.
At the annual Houston RenFest we’d always get one or two furries that walk around and every time the general reaction from the medieval roleplayers is akin to “BEASTS? BEASTS THAT WALK LIKE MAN? FOUL!”
Last time I went a furry volunteered for an impromptu conversion/exorcism and a guy dressed as a monk gathered a bunch of people and using a Gatorade bottle performed an entire catholic christening while reading off the instructions on his Ipad. When the furry was fully “converted” he removed the head of his costume and everyone in the crowd pretended to freak out and say shit like “GlORY BE HE IS SAVED” “CHRIST HAS BROKEN HIS CURSE”
That’s the best crap i’ve heard in months
Bigots in leftist communities are usually not infiltrators or invaders purposefully trying to undermine your movement; they're usually just leftists with bigoted ideals from living in a bigoted society.
Framing all instances of bigotry in your community as coming from "somewhere else", from fakers or far-right agents or whatever, just lets you ignore your own bigoted ideals, the bigoted behavior of your friends and the people you like and trust, and your own complicity in it all.
"Don't let [insert bigots] piggyback off our movement!!" They aren't piggybacking, they're your friends, they're your allies, they're your community leaders, and they're you.
Firefox users have noticed that captchas - both the picture kind and the click the box kind - are not resolving on Firefox. Tests on Chromium based browsers show that it works perfectly fine on them. It is also known that Chrome will be disabling all ad-blockers in June when it moves to Manifest v3, which will greatly limit what extensions can do.
If you use Firefox, there is an extension called User-Agent Switcher and it allows you to change your browser's UA to Chrome. This will allow you to bypass reCaptcha/Captcha blocks set up by Google and make them function properly.
It could be a code snafu on Google's part - but given how predatory they have been acting lately, I'm going to guess not. Don't get locked out of your websites or feel forced to use Chrome again just to browse.
Where is my fantasy female protagonist who's a little too socially adept maybe I'm tired of the assumption being that all fantasy female protagonists don't really understand the nuances of conversation in politicised situations. I want a girl who knows exactly how to play people and is always a little privately concerned that she's evil for it.
what the fuck did I just download
Context: I downloaded what's called simply "Encyclopedia of Religion" by Lindsay Jones because I found some articles online and they seemed well written in the style I like. I was like, okay, it must be one of those thick reference books, like, 500 pages long.
No. Apparently it's a 15-volume masterwork made by what I think are a hundred experts covering everything from Muslim Sufism to the Hindu Vedas to Slavic gods to the beliefs of the peoples of the Chaco to recent Afro-American religious movments to the structure of the papacy to Selkam religion and back. There are even individual articles on animals like bears and cats. It's honestly scary.
God must be in there, somewhere.
Bro just the preface + list of contents + list of contributors is 100 pages. I still haven't reached the index.
There's a Japanese dude who wrote articles about foxes, toads and frogs, hedgehogs, cocks (direct quote..). There's also articles about.., just reading titles: scholasticism, a lot of Muslim terms I'm not familiar with, theriantropism, that weird Japanese cult who did those sarin attacks, ancient canaaite religion, humor and islam, Jenovah's Witnesses, Gender in Celtic religions, an overview of prehistoric religion, and a lot of things I have never heard about. This is all from different collaborators listed on the same page.
This is just the table of contents. The encyclopedia starts in page 152.
This is scary. Did God write this.
If you want a link, you can find it on Anna's Archive by searching Encyclopedia of Religion, apparently by the Macmillan Library Reference.
It's 170mbs. I am not responsible if your PC crashes.
The thing is that every single article, even if it's half a page short (and they're all well written) has annotated bibliography and primary sources on it. You could seriously get lost forever here.
@cryptotheism seems like you might find it interesting
You can pinpoint when this post exploded
I wanted to make a backstory for the time I found this in pokemon Violet XD
save for yourself and for future generations

Police may also feign kettles in order to cause a protest to disperse.
Protests that move quickly are harder to kettle (but are easier to split up as people get left behind). Something important to note is that kettles are used by police to gather intelligence. Police may tell you that you will be allowed to leave if you provide your name and your address, if you give information about other protestors etc. Police can and will lie to you, do not trust them. Never talk to cops. Being trapped in a kettle is stressful. Police may decide to arrest a few of you or all of you. Their goal is to gather information and to demoralize you. They might threaten or harass you. Your goal should be to remain calm and to help the people around you remain calm. Remember if nobody talks, everyone walks.
He's been the Grand Marshall at Manchester Pride several times now. The one above was about 2010 I think and this is from 2015 where he was saying hello to my boys (4 and 8 at the time) and was awesome and exactly who you hope he is.
It's also important to know that he was never really in the closet with his friends and family but he publically came out as gay on a live radio debate on Section 28 (which banned talking about sexuality in schools and basically acted as the UK government saying it was fine to be overtly homophobic) in 1988. He's said that he regrets not coming out earlier, but it can't be stated how big a deal it was when he came out. He wasn't the film star he is now but he was still one of the biggest names in theatre in the UK and publically discussing his sexuality was a huge deal. He's said he knew that by coming ouot and being a focus of attention he could give hope to people who were feeling attacked because he was one of them. He absolutely risked his entire career over it.
He co-founded Stonewall (one of the biggest gay rights foundations in the UK, if not the world), he's a patron of LBGT History Month, London Pride, Oxford Pride, FFLAG and The Albert Kennedy Trust. He doesn't campaign on a lot of other things he is very passionate about because he doesn't want it to dilute focus from his campaign for LGBTQ rights (and he's said other people are better placed to speak on things like nuclear disarmament). He also likes to be called Serena (a nickname given to him by Stephen Fry after McKellen was knighted).
Ian McKellan is not only gay, he is very, *very* loudly gay and walks the walk when it comes to trying to make life better for those who need his support and making life uncomfortable for those who thrive on bigotry and hatred.
I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. I will permit them to be cringe. And when they grow up I will turn my eye to their accomplishments. Where mocking has gone there will be nothing. Only generational solidarity remains
The Kids are indeed Alright.
We must teach them the Lore of things,
like piracy, and how to find stuff at the Library, and Unions, and what it's not legal for job applications to ask you.
when i hear complaints about the boomers, i say "was it not boomers getting shot by cops while protesting against the war in vietnam? Were not boomers the ones who insisted that banks would no longer require a cosign from a husband or father for a woman to open an account or have a credit card? Did they not literally take us to the moon?"
When i hear complaints about gen x i say " did not gen x bear the brunt of AIDS and the creation of the 'inner city'? wasn't it gen-x marching for queer rights and women's body autonomy and a change in corrupt banking policies in some of the largest protests in the country's history?"
when i hear complaints about millennials, i say "have not millennials fought against and lived through so many 'once in a generation' disasters they should by all rights have given up by now? Are not millennials those who rally against the status quo? the industry killers, the cop protesters, they who live through unending hardship as the economic noose tightens, leading the charge for sustainability and socio-economic reform?"
when i hear complaints about gen-z i say "hasn't gen-z gotten involved younger, and been involved stronger, in the continuance of these noble traditions? Are they not living without even the broken pieces of the promise given to the generations that came before? haven't they had their childhoods derailed by the imminence of consequences for actions they were never even present for?"
when i hear complaints about generation alpha i say "HOW DARE YOU. How dare you malign these souls who will have to fix so much that they did not have a hand in ruining... or else die of these mistakes made before they were born. How dare you do the work of our shared oppressors and alienate our fresh blood. You are not to mistreat and mock the youngest soldiers in this fight, no! you point out to them the best targets, you share your rations, you show them how to stay alive, because anyone in the trenches with us is our brethren, our sistren. Our safety and our strength."
don't let the worst kind of stand up comedian tell you other generations are terrible. Don't let the worst kind of headline convince you each generation is against the other. Don't let the worst kind of oppressive force keep us divided along lines that mean nothing real. Because that is how they win.
