christmas in less than a week no snow temperatures regularly hitting above 50°. IN MASSACHUSETTS
pisses me off so much when people bring this up and then are like “well i’m not complaining because i hate the cold!!!!” okay well you are in one of the Supposed to be cold states. Where the cold is supposed to happen. are you not worried
[image ID: a tweet from Shayma (@/dpechesmode) posted on December 13 2023 that reads: “our house was bombed. my sister martyred and left two orphans behind. now i’m trying to evacuate my family of 16 out of gaza, but we need a lot of money to make it happen. your donation and sharing is very much appreciated. paypal.me/doaa94r” /End ID]
shayma is the sister of doaa abuajwa, who worked as an arabic instructor at al azhar university in gaza. doaa was martyred, along with one of her daughters, in early november by an israeli air strike. prior to her murder, a tweet of doaa’s where she talked about being happy to be able to scrape together a small “birthday party” for her daughter maria’s fifth birthday gained significant traction. (maria survived the attack and is now in the care of shayma)
bumping this again because today (12/18/2023) is shayma’s birthday. she says she’s in contact with a friend who can help manage their immigration if they are able to secure the funds they need.
Gaza is in a communications blackout again, and every other time this has happened in the last 2 months, Israel has intensified their attacks on Palestine while they are cut off from communications and medical aid is harder to access
will never forget the parents who lost all 8 of their kids saying "they slept hungry, we were trying to get them a piece of bread but they were killed"
we are witnessing a population run out of food. WFP said a few days ago that half of the population are starving, nine out of 10 are not eating every day.
Now that the truce has ended, don’t call for a 'permanent ceasefire', call for the end of the occupation. As long as Palestine is occupied, Palestinians will never know peace. Even if the Israeli army left Gaza in this very moment, Palestinians will still face brutal suppression at the hands of the Israeli state. Apartheid laws will still remain. Palestinian children will continue to get kidnapped and tortured in prisons. Armed Israeli settlers will continue to act as shook troops in the Occupied Territories.
The state of Israel must be dismantled and occupation must end for such a permanent ceasefire to happen. Support the end of the occupation.
You people better have actual hope for Palestine because I just know you some of you are ITCHING to cry doomerism. Palestine will be free, fight like you believe it. Because you should.
THIS JUST HAPPENED
(around 7.25pm, Nov 23, Palestine time)
please please PLEASE do not stop speaking just because of a temporary ceasefire. please. some of you will have holidays but please take a few minutes out of your day to voice out. and if you can, perhaps do not celebrate and instead protest and keep emailing reps and posting about a complete ceasefire. please.
while some of us will be breathing a sigh of relief over the temporary ceasefire, people will STILL be dying. people ARE still dying. up until the very last minute. they’ve intensified their attacked. there is no “pause” for them.
please. your festivals come every year but these people… these children… once they’re gone, they’re gone. there will be no next year for them.
please keep speaking up. we’re not done yet. please.
m’not sure about donations still because the ceasefire doesn’t mean money will get to gaza right away BUT!!! care for gaza, the e-sims, hirbawi, and palaction are all donations you can make even with a blockade.
other than that, please sign all the petitions, join the campaigns and contact your reps using the various options provided. AND PLEASE remember to boycott companies listed by BDS
"4 day pause" perfectly positioned right around the weekend when most massive pro-Palestine rallies and protests are organised
They're banking on us quieting down.
But as a reminder to all, a few days of pausing the violence is NOT what we advocate for; we demand to cease all forms of violence, cease the genocide, cease the occupation, cease the apartheid system and most importantly seek justice.
A 4 day pause and then what?
I keep posting this because it's important people see the tricks the US Empire will pull in order to ensure the occupation of Palestine doesn't end.
When Netanyahu is removed and scapegoated for the crimes Israel has committed, his more moderate replacement will go on a media tour in order to repair Israel's image in the West and a diplomatic tour in order to restore diplomatic relations with the countries that have recalled their ambassadors or cut diplomatic ties entirely. The genocide we're witnessing will be treated like a mild mistake that will never happen again (that Palestinians have brought on themselves). More money will be allocated to Zionist groups in the West to ensure that the public doesn't turn on Israel again.
Meanwhile, Palestinians will continue to get imprisoned, tortured and killed, only now without the world paying attention (just like what happened after the 2021 war). It's our duty as people who are pro Palestine to ensure that this fails. We need to make sure they don't sweep the genocide under a rug. We need to make that Western politicians and journalists don't clean the blood off their hands in the same way we've spent 45 days countering Israeli propaganda
Al-Shifa Hospital is a ‘big prison’, says director
Nov 17th, 12:25 GMT
As Israel continues its raid of al-Shifa Hospital, the director of al-Shifa says the medical compound has become a “big prison” and a “mass grave” for all those inside.
Muhammed Abu Salmiya tells Al Jazeera that there are 7,000 people in the hospital and staff are still working to help patients but they “lost all those who were in the intensive care unit”.
“We are left with nothing, no power, no food, no water. with every passing minute, we are losing a life. Overnight we lost 22 persons, [and] for the past three days the hospital has been kept under siege,” Salmiya said.
He added that they have appealed to leave the hospital but are being denied by Israeli forces.
“It’s a war crime. A full-fledged war crime,” he said.
Keep in mind please, all these journalists in gaza and Palestinians who communicate what's happening in Gaza are communicating in English for a reason, accessibility. Us arab speaking and arabs and people in the Mena region understand all of it, know all of it, grew up with all of it unfolding, we know... They need you to know, they are speaking your language and accessible language for you to hear and share. It's easy to communicate through numbers and dehumanising reporting but storytelling and reporting is important and appealing to you through your language is another privilege you have yet to acknowledge.
They are risking their lives every day to provide you with what's happening. So there is no excuse for you to remain silent or to say you don't know enough to form an opinion. If journalists in gaza can go on delivering the news even after Israel wipes out their entire families, you can take minutes of your day to seek information. There is no neutrality in genocide.
ALT TEXT: a tweet by the spectator index “JUST IN: US Secretary of State says 'as long as the United States stands, Israel will not stand alone'.” Then twitter user icedlattewoat quote tweets them saying “may they fall together inshallah”
The concept of Israel being corrupt or the aggressor is a new concept for many people. Especially those people who grew up in the west/other states that benefit from their colonial past. I don't blame people who have a lot of unlearning to do about Israel but let's talk about some of the stuff you might not know. Israel's occupation of Palestine isn't the only human rights violation under its belt.
- Israel had extremely close ties with South African apartheid leaders (surprise surprise) like John Vorster and Percy Yutar. Israel provided arms/anti-riot vehicles to the South African Apartheid Regime through the Zionist Federation. (Wiki)
- Israel, despite a weapons embargo by UN Security Council, sent substantial weapons to the Hutu militants who massacred over 1 million Tutsi. The Israeli Supreme Court has also sealed documents detailing these exports despite numerous appeals by activists. (Source).
- It has also funded/supplied weapons to the following atrocities: Mayan Genocide 1960-1996, Srebrenica genocide (Israel supreme court also refuses to release documents on this), Occupation of Kashmir and a bunch more (other involvements include Pinochet Coup, Ethnic cleansing of Armenians
- Palestinians are not the only people facing racism/discriminations at the hands of Israel. Israel has a running history of discrimination against its Ethiopian Jew population. From questioning their Jewish origins, to giving Ethopian women depo-provera without their consent/knowledge, to the brutal beating of Damas Pakedeh, to secretly disposing of blood donations by Ethiopian Jews (list goes on). (Wiki)
- Also did you know that the US, every year, will send thousands of law enforcement personnel to train with the IDF on tactics such as crowd control, use of force and surveillance (Source). Here is an amazing article that talks about how Israeli occupation helps fuel America's problem with police brutality.
Again, for a lot of people, the idea that Israel is evil is very new but the world is more connected than ever before and we can share information to combat all of this. Israel, and its allies (other settler colonial states like US/France/UK) have an incentive to block this information. In fact, when you go through these sources, you'll notice that Israel gets a lot of support/arms/funding from these states so it can carry out these atrocities. Also keep your "whataboutism" to yourself. Any country that does this is in the wrong. Nationalism has no place when discussing human rights violations and its time you changed your stance on Israel and see them for what they are: evil.
I wanna add to this by talking about two groups in the US that are responsible for why this country is so Pro-Zionist. 1. AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). If you live in the US you've probably heard of them as one of the many domestic lobbying groups. They've been active since the 70s and like many other domestic lobbying groups, they carry a lot of power. But unlike many domestic lobbying groups, AIPAC works for the interest of a foreign government. So what role do they play in all of this and how does that impact your view on Israel? For one, they play a HUGE role in American policy by pouring millions against progressive candidates. So they will support either Dems or Reps that are challenging progressive candidates. They do this through UDP (United Democracy Project) and AIPAC PAC and through this approach critics of Israel have an extremely difficult time winning seats and that translates into a very right leaning overton window on this occupation. AIPAC is so dangerous and scary that it deserves a post of its own so I'll give you a couple of sources to check out as a starting point on them. (Source) (Source) (Source)
2. CUFI (Christians United for Israel). Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly if you're familiar with how insane Evangelicals are) this is the largest pro-Israel lobby in the US with almost 10 million members (AIPAC has like 3 million btw). It was founded by David Lewis, an Evangelical minister back in the 70s. They do everything AIPAC does times 5 and have a massive presence within the US government. CUFI doesn't stop at congress, they literally have a chapter dedicated to going on Campuses across the country to stop anti-Zionist movements while preaching pro-Israeli propaganda. So why is this right-wing, often anti-Semitic group (please look up John Hagee and read about him for yourself), so pro-Israel? Well it's because evangelicals see Israel’s existence connected to the biblical prophecy about the world ending and Jesus returning. That is the underlying motive. Don't be confused, CUFI is riddled with anti-Semites and they don't care about Jews. For them this is a means to an end but people like Netanyahu or orgs like AIPAC align with them anyway which reaffirms that you can be anti-Semitic and pro-Zionist at the same time.
This post is already super long so I suggest reading up on both these groups so you can understand how they shape policy and how they fight against those who wanna do the right thing and stand up against Zionism.
AIPAC was able to get Rashida Tlaib censured. Just pause and think about the implications of that for one second. AIPAC, which works for the interest of a foreign government, has enough pull on both (Rep AND dem) sides to silence the only Palestinian congresswoman. Our reps are taking blood money from an organization perpetrating a literal genocide.
If you wanna see these numbers for yourself, HERE is a link. See if your rep is on this list. Stay informed.
why should palestinians have to leave behind their land because israel wont stop killing them. why should anyone have to leave behind their life and memories and sentimental value just because an aggressor is left unchallenged. please think this sentiment through and delete it from your thoughts. instead of blaming an oppressed people for living in a hostile land, ask who is making that land hostile to live in.
