A pun post crossed my dash, and I reblogged it with an equally bad pun in return. A couple of my followers find it funny, it's a good day for everyone.
That was on July 7th.
Virality on Reddit was entirely algorithmic. You could garner a couple crossposts, but the success of a post was entirely dependent on whether or not it hit r/all--the main page of Reddit. If your post does that, it's immediately exposed to 10x the number of people and immediately gets upvoted.
On my pun post, I get a couple reblogs. And those reblogs get a couple reblogs--nobody really adds any content to the post, it just gets a couple reblogs here and there.
There's a specific chain of reblogs that I'd like to focus on. The most popular post on this chain has about 25 reblogs on it. Half the posts have three reblogs or fewer. Five posts in this chain have just one reblog total.
But the reblog chain keeps going. And going. It breaches containment many times over. And finally, after a chain THIRTY SIX posts long, at 9:30 AM, July 22nd this morning, it hits a popular account.
99% percent of the people who have seen the post--virtually unchanged from how it left my dash--have seen it because it was curated by 36 different people. That's insane to me.
None of those 36 people know that they're part of this chain. They saw a post, reblogged it, and moved on. If any one of these people had not reblogged, the post would have a fraction of the impact it has.
And yet, after two weeks, the post has effectively hit the main page of tumblr. It was picked up, only because people liked it enough to show it to their followers. There were no algorithms necessary.
You really, truly, cannot get this on any other website.

It looks like it's Anarchist Direct Actions: A Challenge for Law Enforcement. It was published in 2004
It's worth pointing out that cops in the US adapted to these problems through using grand juries to cast wide nets and do punitive fishing expeditions in the wake of any serious suspected left-wing actions.
Here's how it works:
Someone starts a fire at an army draft office.
The cops look through their files for anyone who might be in the political orbit of someone who'd want to do that. People picked up at protests, for drug charges, vandalism, anyone who is already on their radar. They look into their known associates, anyone they live with, anyone they drink with.
Then they start subpoenaing these people for a grand jury summons. They give you immunity (but only for the matter of the grand jury!) so that you can't exercise the fifth amendment against self incrimination. If you say nothing, they can imprison you almost indefinitely for contempt of court. If they catch you in a lie, that's criminal perjury.
They'll ask you for information on everyone you know. Obviously they'll ask about their involvement in any crimes, but they're casting a wide net. Who knows who, where do they hang out, who talked to who about what and when. They'll ask you to spill interpersonal stuff, whether anyone is cheating on someone, whether people have substance abuse problems or embarrassing personal issues, if anyone is closeted, anything they consider dirt. Anyone you name is gonna get subpoenaed and they'll be asked for all this information on everyone they know, including you, and although you have immunity from your own testimony, you don't get immunity from each others.
Assuming you didn't personally do anything they can prosecute you for in the matter of the grand jury, they'll go after you based on what they know. The cops will arrest you on any little thing they have suspicion of, even if they know they can't prosecute you, just so that they can keep you in jail for a few days while you miss two shifts at work and your friends have to scramble to raise bail. They'll leak any embarrassing info that comes out, to your boss or your family or even the local press. Whatever they can do to make your life a little harder.
They will lean fucking hard on anyone who is involved in the scene but had second thoughts or felt like they were dragged into something they never wanted to do in the first place by their friends. The cops will say 'do you want to get your life ruined by people who did something stupid over something you barely even believe in' and sometimes that's a very compelling argument! If people have dependents or kids who they think won't be looked after if they go to prison, there's a lot of pressure to cooperate.
It's important to note two things:
1) Based on the ratio of actual prison sentences to maximum possible sentences for the charges, it's better for people not to cooperate with the jury both individually and as a group. People who talk still get sentenced, with the information they helped provide.
2) These aren't surgical strikes, they're an artillery barrage designed to destroy infrastructure and send people running for cover. Cops don't want you to have friends, they don't want you to hang out and have fun, they don't want you getting or providing food or shelter through anything you can't get fired from. They don't want committed direct-action people swimming freely through a sea of friendly people. They're not scared of the flower, they're scared of the soil that grows it.
Check your conspiracy theory. Does it sound anything like this?

- The one world government will be headed by a single leader.
- The conspiracy intends to make everyone follow a religion it created.
- The conspiracy is trying to destroy all true religion/spirituality.
- The conspiracy deliberately stirs up conflict and starts wars.
- The conspiracy deliberately does whatever it can to confuse, exhaust, and demoralize the people.
- The conspiracy creates and/or manipulates art and entertainment to control and brainwash the masses.
- Liberal politics (EG, religious tolerance, equality) are part of the conspiracy.
- Communism and collectivism are part of the conspiracy.
- The conspiracy manipulates the economy to our detriment.
- The conspiracy wants to do away with the gold standard.
- The conspiracy wants to do away with the free market.
- The conspiracy intends to tax the rich, which is bad because taxes are just legal theft.
- Teaching people about the mistakes and atrocities committed by governments is part of the conspiracy.
- The conspiracy creates new religions and spiritual movements to further their agendas.
- All secret societies (EG, Freemasonry) are part of the conspiracy.
- Presidents are manipulated puppets of the conspiracy.
- The conspiracy manipulates anyone with a high political position.
- The conspiracy grooms world leaders.
- Agents of the conspiracy are planted everywhere, in all levels of society.
- The conspiracy kills anyone who might expose their plans in ways that no one would suspect are actually murder.
- The conspiracy follows/uses the Kabbalah.
Literally all of these were claimed in The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, an antisemitic hoax created by the Okhrana. It was used by Nazi Germany to justify the Holocaust, and today it still serves as the blueprint for most conspiracy theories - even if modern conspiracy theorists try to hide it, downplay it, or rationalize it with another, equally absurd conspiracy theory.
I've been telling people for ages now, it's virtually guaranteed that if you dig into it enough any given conspiracy theory will turn out to be antisemitic no matter how harmless or silly it first appears.
So which one is it OP? Progressivism Bad, or Conservatism Bad? Are we supposed to be distrusting of the Left or the Right?
Conspiracy theorists often claim that the conspiracy is responsible for progressive politics, and the conspiracy wants to place higher taxes on the wealthy to steal their supposedly hard-earned money. I for one am all in favor of taxing the wealthy.

also like i'm sorry but even if my answer was "i fucking hate christians and i don't want them anywhere near me and will block them on sight if i encounter them on social media" that would still be a valid and completely reasonable boundary for me, a jew, to have. christians have been murdering and forcibly converting us for centuries. my family was directly affected by this. if i never wanted to be in the same room with a christian ever again in my life, that would be on the kinder end of the spectrum of justice.
this isn't a problem specific to progressive christians, but since this is a discussion about them, that who i'm going to be talking about. i have worked in churches as a professional musician for over a decade. i've worked at some more conservative churches which present their own problems, but at every single progressive church i have worked at, i always dread christmas and easter because that's when i deal with the most cloaked antisemitism. especially easter.
i worked at a church that had absolutely no problem with me being trans and even told me i could wear my kippah during services if i wanted to. this was the same church that lit a menorah during the christmas eve service, used three stranded challah to "signify the trinity", and where the pastor gave a sermon talking about "the jerusalem elite" and how jesus saved everyone from having to follow the "cruel" teachings of the "old testament." at this same church, members of the choir gave me hanukkah cards. one of them crocheted me a bunch of kippot to give to me as a going away present on my last day at the reception they threw for me. at that same reception, one of the members told me they hoped they'd see me again and that i could "accept the light of jesus into my heart." i loved these people, and deeply appreciated their support of me in my transition, but in the end to many of them the goal was to feel so accepted that i'd convert. and that has been my experience with about 80% of progressive christians.
so while i may agree more politically with progressive christians, i do not trust progressive christians any more than i do traditional or conservative christians.
trying to convert a jew to christianity is violence. using a jew's words and twisting them to make them about jesus is antisemitism.
there is a time and a place for an interfaith theological dialogue where everyone gives their perspectives, and sometimes its just not that. sometimes a thing isnt meant for you, and people should be alright with that. personally, ive found what I think to be correct/whats personally right for me. But someone else of a different religion, thats just great. Faith is a wonderful thing, and I allways love hearing about and learning how others experience the divine. Its rather not my place to tell people that they are wrong.

This project is absolutely BIG and the person behind it BIGGER, and you guys have no idea how glad I am to have a complete Homestuck archive right at hand that also has stuff like The Baby Is You and Humanimals among so much more. Like what?? It’s the real MSPA.
Also, all the content is less than 4GB? I’d think it’d be way more heavy. You can even save it on a USB and you’ve got the entirety of Homestuck and MSPA in your hands…

the Offline Version still exists for Download, but now you no longer are required to in order to experience Homestuck as it was originally intended!

the oceangate situation is really funny but i do want to take a moment to look at the fact that five people of their own volition decide to go two miles under the sea in something controlled by a $30 xbox controller with no beacon or way to navigate, go missing, and immediately a massive search effort is underway with people anxiously combing the ocean for any sign of these chucklefucks, but the greek coast guard capsized a boat full of hundreds of migrants, killing 80 with over 500 people still counted as missing, and the eu won't even investigate
