Seeking interns for spring and summer 2016
USA TODAY’s digital team is seeking mobile and social interns for the spring semester and for summer 2016. Spring interns will work 15 hours a week and should be in school in the D.C. area. Summer interns can relocate to the D.C. area for summer and will work 40 hours a week. Both internships are paid.

MOBILE INTERNSHIP
The mobile intern will:
- Create stories, galleries and other mobile-first content for USA TODAY digital platforms
- Research and write items for daily “5 Things to Know” column
- Respond to breaking news and work with the team in fast-paced situations
- Manage related social media accounts, particularly @usatodaymobile Twitter
- Work with the newsroom on creating, adapting and packaging content for mobile products
- Analyze metrics and data to make targeted suggestions for future content and programming
- Help program and manage USA TODAY’s apps and products, including posting wire stories and handling some “fronts”
S/he should have:
- Previous news internship and/or campus media experience
- Strong news judgment
- Top-notch reporting, writing and editing skills
- The ability to spot trends and holes in coverage
- An understanding of how news is delivered on mobile platforms
- An adaptability to different content management systems and other digital tools
- The ability to multitask well
- Facility with Photoshop and other visuals/design
- A willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
SOCIAL INTERNSHIP
The social intern has a visual focus and will:
- Create visuals, including illustrations, infographics, Vines, GIFs, Snapchat Stories, videos and other art, for social media platforms
- Help manage USA TODAY’s social media platforms
- Analyze social media account insights and offer strategic ideas for performance
- Work with the graphics team and newsroom on social “best practices”
- Respond to breaking news, including quick turnaround graphics
S/he should have:
- Previous news internship and/or campus media experience
- Strong design skills, including mastery of Adobe Creative Suite programs
- Experience with news reporting and research
- A deep understanding of key social networks and how they are used to deliver news and information
- A willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
