my friend–the same friend who was struggling a while back with raising funds to move out of a shitty housing situation, which she did get out of–got into a car accident :( she’s physically ok but she was between jobs and doordash was her only source of income, now the car is totaled and she doesn’t even have that

Her gf set up this gofundme just now, please share if you can’t donate. I hate having to air out all the ways in which she’s marginalized, but in case it helps, she’s a black lesbian who has been cut off from her family and is struggling to find a job. we’re not sure what the situation is with the car insurance yet. She has two beautiful cats that she needs to feed as well

$460/3,500 - thank you to everyone who has donated so far. the car is totaled beyond fixing and will have to be replaced. she’s found work again but continuing to pay to rent a car to go to work (public transportation doesn’t go near her job) isn’t doable in the long-term. please keep reblogging and donating <3

$560/3,500

Thank you to everyone who’s donated so far. Here’s an update, in case it helps: She’s gotten a new job in food service and is working doubles despite being sick, and spending part of what she earns on ubers isnt helping with her financial situation. She can’t afford to see a doctor, nor can she afford therapy, which she really needs because she’s got preexisting psychiatric problems that have gotten worse because she’s traumatized by the accident—the car was so fucked up it’s truly a miracle that she got out physically unscathed—and dealing with work stress. She doesn’t have any family support whatsoever and is feeling very alone in all of this. Any donation of any amount can help ease the stress and pain she’s going through.

DON'T REBLOG

this blog is viewable only on the dashboard for now. for archival purposes (mostly to save my rgu posts) i'll make it viewable to non-logged-in users when i'm done moving.

i'll make my new blog later today or tomorrow and post the url, then take down that post 24 hours later. if you miss the post, you can message me on this blog and i'll let you know what my new url is.

does anyone know if it's possible to transfer my list of blocked users to a new account? i have thousands of people blocked and not wanting to do it again has been the main thing tying me to this account for a while

Huh...seems like the idea that an attack was bound to hit the WTC was in the public conscience at the time

the only thing wilder than hirohiko araki of jojo's bizarre adventure fame accidentally predicting 9/11 is the communist boots riley-fronted hip hop group the coup accidentally predicting 9/11 like right before it happened

[alt text: the original cover of the album party music by the coup, featuring boots riley and pam the funkstress in front of the twin towers, which are exploding]

this album cover was designed in june 2001. they had to delay the release of the album to november of that year because it needed a new cover

“Schoolchildren are often given Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s phrase “suspension of disbelief” as a simple way to evaluate the success or failure of fantastic literature. Were you lulled into taking for granted the talking dragon and magical elves because of the otherwise “relatable” content? LeGuin should be thought of as doing something similar: effecting a communist suspension of disbelief, a suspension first and foremost of capitalist disbelief in the possibility of communism. To do this, she has to induce disbelief in the institutions of capitalism, to display them not as “how things are” but “how they’ve been made to be.” In an early scene from Shevek’s childhood, for example, he and his friends struggle to grasp the concept of a prison, something they’ve read about in history textbooks but which has no correlate in their universe, since they live in a world where doors are left unlocked and no one is ever prevented from exiting or entering a space. One friend volunteers to be confined, and not only that, volunteers to surrender all choice about the length of time he is confined. Shevek and the others must decide. The effect is not only to denaturalize prison, to expose it as an unnecessary and incomprehensible absurdity, but to remind us that it is the result of free human action, of thousands upon thousands of choices that have been made but could also have been unmade, choices that, ultimately, deprived others of choice.”
