A Work in Progress

@ursulacousland / ursulacousland.tumblr.com

Mostly Bioware fangirling. I try to keep the rants to a minimum, so feel free to filter the following tags: "politics", "soapbox", "feminism", and "Ursula bitches". :) (And Shakarian if that's not your thing. I'm 100% Shakarian trash. :) )

My @masseffectholidaycheer gift arrived today - thoughtfully selected and gorgeously gifted by @thatswhatshiisaid (though it won’t let me @ you for some reason). I am a complete fool for Mass Effect crafty goodies, and you knocked it out of the park. From the lovely “Naughty and Nice” wrapping scheme, right down to naughty-and-nice treats to the mostly-paragon-with-a-dash-of-renegade themes, I was squeeing with everything as I opened it! (The gratuitous shot at the bottom is curious kitties seeing what I was so excited about, right before they both had a go at the ornament on its stand!)

This fits my mostly-paragon-slightly-renegade Shepard tendencies beautifully!

Thank you so very much! <3

THANK YOU, ARTIST

Childfree folks definitely deserve for their opinions and feelings to be respected.  There are more than enough humans to keep the species going; don’t try to force people to have kids they don’t want, because parents of unwanted children are statistically more likely to be shitty parents.  Funny that.

You get just as many weird looks when you insist you’d rather adopt than give birth, though–especially when, like me, you do not want to adopt a newborn.  Like, I love kids, I think babies are cute, but my anxiety disorder means I don’t think I can handle caring for a child through the whole pre-verbal stage.  And hey, if it means getting a kid out of the foster system and into a forever home, why wouldn’t I want to adopt?  It’s a win-win:  I get kids without pregnancy, childbirth, or 3AM feedings; they get someone who loves them, takes care of their needs, and does her best to help them succeed in life (whatever that means for the kid).

WOMEN DO NOT ALL WANT OR NEED TO HAVE BABIES.  WHETHER WE’RE FULL-ON CHILDFREE OR JUST WANT TO ADOPT, OUR DESIRE TO NOT BE PREGNANT IS NOBODY’S BUSINESS BUT OURS.  RESPECT OUR DECISIONS.  WE ARE ADULTS; WE HAVE ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THIS.

Inquisition’s Inner Circle: The Avengers. Semi-professional lunatics who save the world part-time.

The Warden’s Crew: X-men. Freaks with no where else to go and nothing better to do.

Hawke’s Gang: Guardians of the Galaxy. “Let’s steal some shit.”

Never mind the “Who shot first?” stuff; THIS is the defining moment of the Han Solo character:

Everyone else was just like: “Oh, fuck: It’s Vader!” and standing around in shock and terror when Vader was revealed. Even Chewie.

Most people, I suspect, would have that reaction.

Meanwhile, Han’s first reaction, instinctively, in less than a second, was to grab a gun and try to flat-out end the guy.

He failed, of course. But God Damn if you can’t appreciate the effort.

Also, he grabs his girl’s hand. Not only is he going to end Vader, he’s going to do so while reassuring the woman he loves that this monster who tortured her won’t hurt her again as long as he’s there to do something about it.

The point of this scene:

Han was nothing to Vader. Not really. Han was just a normal, average guy. Vader didn’t think too much of him.

“I have superpowers; you don’t!”

But then: doesn’t Han show more love, affection, guts and courage in this moment than any Jedi warrior ever could?

Thus, Vader is shown up.

Attempting to kill an evil wizard with a regular gun is one of the most Han Solo things ever. I don’t think most people would even bother trying, because you can’t just shoot Darth Vader, right? Of course not. But Han’s gonna goddamn try it anyway.

Yeah, basically’ Han tried.

Sometimes that’s all you can ever ask of someone.

Just one of many reasons I love this man

With Han, you never have to wonder, “Why didn’t he just shoot them?” Whenever you’d think that, he shoots them.

Han Solo is a practical soul and if he’s got the chance to just shoot them he’s gonna take it

Why is LARP so much more taboo than historical reenactment why is pretending you’re a wizard less socially acceptable than pretending you’re a confederate

This…is…a decent question.

I agree. I’d much rather have wizards running around than confederates…
