To the person reading this, I hope tonight treats you gently, and that tomorrow looks brighter.
Solidarity Summer is well and truly ramping up. AS IT FUCKING SHOULD.
And another one! 📢
Barnes and Noble booksellers are working on forming a union as well!
Their flagship store and New York has unionized along with 3-4 other stores! This is happening! People are tired of being seen as dollar signs and being made to work just to get to work more, to survive instead of thrive. Keep it UP.
Shut. It. All. Down.
Are you on strike?
I want to make so many dad jokes right now, you have no idea.
But, yes, I am a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1980, and I am on strike with my union, which has been in solidarity with the WGA since May.
I hope we can get back to bargaining, and I hope that the AMPTP will move off its stated position of letting us all go broke and homeless while their billionaire owners add decks to their yachts, so we give up and our unions are destroyed.
I hope that some sane people will sit down and negotiate with us, because so far all we are getting is outright rejections of our proposals, a refusal to counter, and the insulting fiction that paying a background actor 200 dollars one time to use their image and labor in perpetuity (thus eventually removing background actors from production, entirely) was some kind of groundbreaking offer to address the serious issues we all have with AI.
So unless and until the other side negotiates in good faith, I'm proudly on strike.
oh it's going down
- Along with stepping away from all film and television productions worldwide, actors will not be permitted to take part in promotional work of any kind, including press junkets, film premieres, and fan events like San Diego Comic-Con.
- Sources also say that SAG-AFTRA has informed publicists that any scheduled press or acting work after a strike is ordered must be cancelled. SAG-AFTRA members are also not permitted to promote any work on social media, as that is considered publicity.
- Actors are permitted to attend the pop culture convention as long as they don’t take part in any panels that promote a specific film or television show or discuss any current or future work. While attendance is allowed, individuals with knowledge of the publicist meeting tell TheWrap that SAG-AFTRA would prefer that its members completely skip the event [SDCC] later this month.

From what I recall, the first time I saw 'rainbow capitalism' from a big brand was this image from Oreo in 2012.
It created a lot of controversy. Calls for boycotts and such. But Oreo didn't take it down. They were unapologetic and didn't try to appease the homophobes or backtrack.
And I know this sounds weird, but it was like a shift. Proof that public opinion or acceptance of queerness was widespread enough for a company to consider it profitable.
As a fellow trans person, do you by chance have an up to date map of "safe states" in the US? bc as someone who lives in florida and is getting Very Concerned about my health and safety, i can't seem to find any that are more recent, and i don't trust trying to google that shit rn.
As of May 19 2023
i went to a tiny counterserve diner once and accidentally poured sugar instead of salt all over my hashbrowns and was eating them sadly anyways. the waitress took them away and started making me another one and I tried to protest, but she just snorted and said "we're not catholic here". now every time i'm doing something painful out of obligation i think about how that is not repenting, this body is not a catholic establishment, there is no nobility in suffering.
I will never get over how weird it feels to have tragic and emotional chapters of your life where you just also still go to work, and the grocery store, and see funny videos online all while feeling such paralyzing fear and heartache
life just goes on no matter what
