The Scottish Child Payment scheme goes live today.

It’s been praised by anti-poverty campaigners and will allow families to get £10 per week per child on top of any additional social security payments.

Anyone who is the primary caregiver for any child under the age of six can apply.

For folk who argue that this isn’t that much - it can mean the world to people living below the poverty line.

This from the Child Poverty Action Group hopefully shines some light on it.

“"This new payment is an absolute game changer in the fight to end child poverty. £10 a week for each child will make a real difference to families struggling to put food on the table, heat their homes and pay for the ordinary school trips, sport and other activities that are fundamental to a decent childhood.

Today's announcement is a landmark recognition of the role the Scottish social security system can play in ending child poverty.

It's now vital that the UK government follows suit and starts to use its powers in an equally positive way and scraps the universal credit two child limit and restores UK benefits following the freeze, so that government at every level works together to protect children from poverty."

Folk in notes not listening - it’s per week per child and on top of other social security payments.

£10 might mean fuck all to you and you might spend that on crisps in ASDA but for some families that’s absolutely life-saving.

It’s also one of Scotland’s first social security payouts because we’ve only recently got the opportunity to establish our own. This is the Scottish government doing *more* to inject money to help families on top of the likes of mitigating the bedroom tax and a host of other cuts imposed by Westminster.

Wait...there was more than one bone-stealer?

Hey now one was a consensual exchange of bone tissue from a medically necessary amputation. Only one was actual grave robbery.

Oh, no, I wasn’t talking about the toe thing. I was specifically referring to the other person “legally” purchasing human bones. (Apparently, someone sent something about it in my inbox)

Oh was it the "Dubiously Purchased Chinese Skeleton" one? I'm 90% sure that story was fake.

How come semi trucks in Europe look like “toot toot :)” and in North America they look like “HONK HOOOOOOOONK >:|”

“I WILL FUCKING PANCAKE YOUR CUCK ASS”

@trainwreckgenerator why did you hide these in the tags

This suggests that Maximum Overdrive was Jurassic Park for motor vehicles.

I’m sorry, but that is misleading as hell. American and European trucks are bred for different purposes.

American trucks are bred for long hauls on largely straight roads. They can go for hours without a break. A European truck needs more breaks and a lighter load, and they would indeed take great internal damage if they tried to keep up with the Longsnout.

The European Shortsnout is not bred for looks, but for agility! They navigate the windy roads of Europe in a way that would be way too risky for the powerful, but more clumsy American truck. It is true that the European overheats faster at high speeds, that is the very reason that breaks every 4,5 hours are mandatory for both the truck and the handler and a day of driving can never be longer then 9 hours.

So, all in all, appreciate all of our trucks and our shared history, and be the responsible owner that gets the right breed for the right job.

My favorite part is when the kitty runs to the window and looks out like “the outside stuff????? It is inside?????”

Y’all this is a great video to study to observe the body language of a very happy but also very excited cat.  Lots of people see videos of excited cats doing things like climb rock climbing walls or get on small boats and think they are angry or scared, when they aren’t.  Here’s a good example of happy excitement and tension in a cat where the cat’s pleasure is easy to see.  The cat’s tail is lashing and its ears are going backward and forward like crazy, but the cat is not angry, it is merely off its shits because snow is just incredible.  This is a wildly playful cat which might play-attack a hand or other animal because it is so excited, but not out of anger.  Note the zoomies at the end to burn off some of that energy!

Think about it. When we humans do something fun and very physical, our bodies are often tense, at the ready, and a lot of our body language does look kind of aggressive or even scared. Cats are the same!  Animals at play or investigating new things often show some tension, but tension is not the same as anger or fear!

So this happened yesterday. Little remark: Normally I am REALLY BAD at deducing!!! But this... well... read for yourselves

Me: *sitting in a psychology class*
Stranger in my course: *sits next to me*
Teacher: *begins class by droning on about how certain facts about our lives are always visible*
Teacher: *drones on for a little bit longer about things everyone watching Sherlock already knows*
Teacher: And now your task is to look at the person next to you and tell them one fact they didn't tell you verbally.
Stranger: *looks at me* Ahem... I have no idea what to do. You start.
Me: *looking at him*
Me: You're left-handed. You smoke. You would like to have a tattoo but can't decide if you really should go through with that idea. You probably worry about what your girlfriend will say.
Stranger:

Stranger:
Stranger: ..... How?
Me: Well, everything is lying on the left side of you, which is typical for a left-handed person and annoys me a little bit because your things keep pushing my things, which are lying on my right side, all over the place. I'm right-handed, by the way. I thought I smelled a little bit of cigarette smoke when you sat down next to me but I wasn't sure at first. The yellow stains on your fingers made it obvious, though. Your screensaver of your phone is the drawing of a tattoo. I saw it briefly when you checked the time shortly after arriving here. But the background of your phone is a photograph of your girlfriend hugging you, which I saw as you checked your messages. And I'm guessing that she isn't too fond of tattoos because of your wistful look at the drawing. Might be wrong but it's my best guess.
Stranger:

Stranger:
Stranger: .... um... yeah. Correct.
Me: You should tell her how important that tattoo would be. Most girls I know like blokes with tats, they think it's sexy.
Stranger: .... um... yeah. Good idea.
