ive said this before but game freak could make some (extra) bank by doing something out of the ordinary like making the protag in a game a part of the villain team but somehow they simultaneously want to keep doing the same thing over and over again while also trying out new things that people didnt like, actually ask for

I have never paid that much attention to Dustox’ design despite liking all moth based Pokemon, the face aside. I never really liked the face. When I started working on this I also found that Dustox’ body has a really weird plug shape. That aside this was a fun design to work on. Dustox is said to be based on the Japanese luna moth so I loosely based mine on it as well. Dustox has its differences compared to its inspiration but those were easy to make up.
Marill and Azumarill for the Johtodex!
Full disclosure, Marill is one of my favorite pokemon of all time. I grew up in the era when the playground rumors (and even some official Topps cards) called it “Pikablu.” I fell in love with it when it first appeared in “Pikachu’s Vacation” and thought it was a cute companion for Tracey, who being an artist I could relate to. I still have a fair collection of Marill goodies~
I also went somewhat viral back in the day with a BellyJet Azumarill back when it had just become a possible combination. I remember being so disappointed in gen 4 when I saw it could learn these two moves, but never together. Of course now it’s a pretty common strategy so it’s nothing special today.
