So I have a headcanon for this image…
It’s Yurio’s birthday and Otabek and Yuri decide to go out for breakfast-Otabek’s treat. They talk whilst waiting for their food and then eat in companionable silence. Otabek decides now is a good time to give Yuri his gift. He reaches out for the small box in his bag, and gifts it to Yuri. “Happy birthday, Yuri”, he says. Yuri’s emerald eyes light up and there’s a beautiful bright smile on his face. Up until Otabek’s appearance, Yuri has never had any friends aside from his figure skating peers in Saint Petersburg. Hence he was never gifted anything by others for his birthday. This moment, it was special to him, so very special. he eagerly opens the box and finds an ipod and in ear headphones inside. Yuri holds the switch, scrolls down, and finds several playlists. He realizes quickly after skimming the songs on a few of the playlists that all these remixes and songs are by Otabek himself. He’s elated, because his Welcome to the Madness exhibition skate program was inspired by Otabek’s song. He’s absolutely drawn into that kind of music and for Otabek to give him his works-it was so cool. Yuri accesses the last playlist on the ipod. He reads the title “Ice Tiger of Russia”. He selects the playlist, and finds uniquely titled songs listed. “It’s for you” Otabek says, and mentally facepalms himself. Of course it’s for Yuri, it’s his gift. He quickly recovers and says smoothly to mask his apprehension “The playlist…I dedicated it to you. I really hope you enjoy it”. Yuri is touched, that his friend would spend the time and effort to create not just a song but an entire playlist? For him? He thanks Otabek and restrains himself from hugging the other or saying anything else potentially stupid. He wasn’t sure he’d appreciate the gestures. “C-can I-we- listen to it now?” He’s hopeful and eager, and Otabek nods, giving Yuri one of his rare ocassional smiles. Yuri unwinds the earphones connects it to the ipod and hands one side of it to Otabek. Yuri begins playing the special playlist made for him, and the smile on his face stays with him the entire time. They’ve sat there for hours, silent aside from the ocassional chuckle or comment on a song, just appreciating and enjoying each other’s company. Their serene time is interrupted when Victor and Yuuri greet them. Otabek’s posture stiffens at the unexpected sound/interruption. The newly wed couple smiles at them, and they’re holding several bags of groceries and other items. Victor had told Yuri him and Katsudon would be out til 12…had it really been that long? “Yurio, I’d assume you left several hours ago. What are you up to?” Yuri wants to snap at Victor for disturbing him and Otabek, but he can’t bring himself to, he’s feeling much too joyful at the moment. He mumbles “none of your business, old man”, but even then, a gentle smile and soft eyes still linger on his face.
