i know this exact post has been made hundreds of times but the funniest fucking part about Warhammer 40K lore is that orks are canonically reality-bending telepaths but are too stupid to exercise their abilities consciously; instead, things that enough orks think should work end up actually working, even if they violate the laws of physics. orks think that painting their vehicles red makes them go faster and painting missiles yellow makes them explode more, and so it does. captured ork mechs that get disassembled are usually revealed to be full of nothing but random scrap metal and wood piled haphazardly together and refuse to work when piloted by a non-ork. orks have fucking openable windows on their spaceships to let in a breeze

I don’t care about warhammer 40k at large but the idea of orks being tremendously stupid football hooligans who make things that shouldn’t work just happen anyway because of powers they’re too dumb to use consciously is incredibly funny

Master economists, too.

How the media depicts the Apollo 11 mission:

Actual quotes from the Apollo 11 mission:

also according to michael collins when the three of them were discussing what neil armstrong should say when he first stepped on the moon, collins suggested armstrong say “Oh, my God, what is that thing?”  and then scream and cut out his mic.

Everyone forgets Michael Collins and it’s fucking tragic.

Frozen (2013) / Frozen 2 (2019)

First off, I love everything about how the animation has developed and I especially love Elsa's design for the second movie more than I can express.

But beyond that, the hug in the second gif is so much closer. The hug in the first one is the kind I give my aunt or people I don't know well when saying goodbye, one that is lopsided where we both know how what to expect without pretext. One that requires no thought or attention to the other person beyond how to line it up.

The second hug however, is much closer. That is a hug that is meant to last a while. It's not a hug in passing. In the second, their arms don't extend to the side, they are reaching for one-another, like they can't wait for the embrace. There is less wasted motion here, despite how slowly they are walking, there is an urgency in their reach. That hug is where you really want to pull the person tight to you, when you don't want to let go. Where you NEED that moment of connection or comfort. It's so much more personal and meaningful.

I don't know if what I said makes sense but that's one of the first things that struck me about this comparison.

but you see her on instagram and it was never really said that you guys aren’t friends but one day she stopped answering and you stopped texting and it’s not like the wound is a cavern but it is a diagram of what if in red letters. you want to tell her nice lipstick that’s a good color but the last time you spoke it was stilted and awkward

how do you say goodbye, you know? it’s not an unfriend and block kind of situation. but you watch the people you once loved go on and have a life and you’re outside of it. and it’s bittersweet because of course it’s okay that you’re both thriving. but she used to be who you’d call if you needed to cry. she used to be who’d you’d be binge watching the new series with. you used to be hers, in a way, even if that way wasn’t permanent. and now she’s someone else and so are you and your friendship is clicking heart shapes next to pictures where she smiles next to people you’ve never met. you know where her birthmark is. she knows where you’ve buried your dead.

the poets and the singers and the authors write about romantic love when it ends. but nobody tells you how to get over a friend.

Florida Judge Sentences 21-Year-Old to 10 Days in Jail for Oversleeping and  Missing Jury Duty

Talk about getting an “n-word wake up call” —to quote legendary comic Paul Mooney. A young black man, who said he overslept and missed jury duty, got the book thrown at him.

Whether or not we are now considering missing jury duty a crime, a judge in Florida says it is—and it’s punishable by law. 21-year-old Deandre Somerville was sentenced to 10 days in jail plus one year of probation and 150 hours of community service after failing to show up for a trial in August.

According to NBC News, the West Palm Beach, Fla., native was chosen as a juror Aug. 20 for a civil trial in Florida’s 15th judicial circuit and was ordered to return the following day at 9:30 a.m. He reportedly woke up late and sought answers online regarding possible punishments for missing jury duty.

“I should have called,” he told the outlet. “But I was kind of nervous. I also went online to look up what could really happen, and I didn’t really see too much there. … [It looked like] nobody actually ever really went to jail for it.”

A rude awakening, literally, soon came upon him.

Somerville, who works for the West Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department’s afterschool programs, was cited for criminal contempt of the court by Palm Beach County Circuit Judge John S. Kastrenakes on Sept. 23.

“When a juror is selected and sworn, the administration of justice in this courthouse depends on you following the orders of the court,” Kastrenakes said, according to court records, adding that the trial was delayed for almost an hour while the court waited for the young man.

In addition to an initial sentence of 10 days in jail, one year of probation and 150 hours of community service, Somerville was also required to write a letter of apology to the court and pay $223 to cover court costs.

At the hearing Friday, Somerville, who said the jail sentence—which he served—was “a little overdone” and read his letter of apology aloud to the court.

“This was an immature decision that I made and I paid for with my freedom,” the letter read, according to NBC News. “I am extremely sorry for my actions. I also sincerely apologize for delaying the trial by 45 minutes and not being considerate of other people’s time.”

“I know I may have to live with a record that follows me for the rest of my life,” the letter continued. “This was definitely a learning experience and a wake-up call for me. … I’m determined to not let this define who I am and what my future will be.”

During the hearing, his probation was reduced to three months and his community service requirement was reduced to 30 hours. Somerville, who plans to be a firefighter, told the Associated Press that he prayed daily and wrote in a notebook.

“I feel like I didn’t need any rehabilitation… I just made a mistake,” he told NBC News.

Fucking ridiculous. Jail time, probation fees, a fine, community service and a record for life for oversleeping while Black… The judge singled him out because “he was the only African American.” 🙄

They be like, “But this has nothing to do with rac—”

Bullshit! It has everything to do with race, and about getting as many black men involved in the criminal justice system as possible. All that punishment and rehab just for oversleeping is ridiculous. Why? Because when you’re a black man and you make anyfucking mistake at all, then you need to have the hammer of justice brought down on you to teach you never to fuck up again.
