We conducted an interview with him at Model Press, covering everything from his introduction into the agency to his debut, his thoughts on his performance, and more.

Shotaro Through Scouting, Audition and Debut

It has been nearly one and a half years since you joined NCT in 2020. Can you tell us again how you joined the agency and made your debut.

SHOTARO: I've been dancing since I was five years old but around high school, was drawn to the worldview and appeal of being an artist through the experience of dancing on stage and my desire to shine on stage grew. After that, the agency approached me about auditioning, and I was accepted.

Shotaro's Thoughts on Debuting in Korea: "It Was Truly an Unknown World"

How did you feel at the time about leaving Japan to become an artist active in Korea?

SHOTARO: When I learned that I was going to be an artist, I was honestly very happy, but that was not all. Of course, I was going to be working abroad and it was truly an unknown world to me, so did have anxieties and nervousness. But my desire to become an artist was stronger than those feelings, so I decided I would do my best and determinedly traveled to Korea.

We heard that you had been to a live NCT 127 show before.

SHOTARO: I had the opportunity to go see NCT 127's performance and I was drawn in by NCT's unique worldview at the time. was impacted by their artistic realm that goes beyond K-pop idol boundaries and seeing them perform live made my desire to become an artist even stronger.

How did you say goodbye to your parents and friends?

SHOTARO: For my family, I was already determined and told them that I would do my best to make my debut and then went to Korea. With my friends, I told them it was sad but that I'd be working my hardest and said goodbye.
