Hey guys...

There are still quite a few items on my wish list that we need in the coming weeks.

I’m starting a new post in the hopes that it will get around as well as the last one. As you all know, I’ve suffered from four mini-strokes, and am currently recovering from them.  My husband has had to take leave to stay home with me while I recover, and as such, he has no income. 

We have enough PayPal funds for now as long as he doesn’t have to stay out of work for any longer than he already is, but there are items that need to be bought and unless I dip into our bill fund, I don’t have the money for them. (Cold and allergy meds for the kids and hubby, Christmas gifts for the kids and some things I need for myself as well) If you are able to purchase something, my family and I would be much obliged. It looks like Andre will be without paychecks for an entire month (the amount of time he’ll be on leave at home with me)  We are about $500 shy of having enough to make it without his paycheck (that’s including gas money for Andre to get to work when he goes back).  So if you have any to spare, (or if not, you can share this link), I would be much obliged if you could. I believe there’s a gofund me floating around somewhere as well, but I don’t have that link handy, if you’d rather donate to that. I’ll look for the link and reblog it to my blog as well. When I was younger, I wish someone had told me straight-up that not all adults experience “a calling”. That many of them never find particular purpose in a career. That sometimes, their job is just what pays the bills and they have to seek satisfaction and fulfillment elsewhere. 

Because as an adult, this pervasive notion that there exists a perfect path for everyone, that people should love what they do, and that work is meant to function as a vehicle for fulfilling a person’s grand life destiny is not only inaccurate for many of us, it can be toxic.

The ideal is so ingrained that I have to remind myself constantly I’m not a failure because I don’t adore my job, and because I’m not rocking the world with my work. That is okay. 

Sometimes, work is just work. There isn’t always a perfect career path, magically waiting to be discovered. There might not be this THING you were born to do. Sometimes, you discover that what you really want to be when you grow up is “paid”.

Need a little Holiday Help

Hi all!

First let me preface this buy saying I personally don’t need money. I’m good right now, that’s not what this is about.

But I am asking for money and here’s why.

I saw this great post here on tumblr about how hard it is for homeless women when they get their periods. Well, I have all these leftover birchboxes because I always thought they were too pretty to get rid and that there would be SOMETHING I could use them for.

Seems like I have.

I’m putting together these ten ‘menstruation boxes’ to give out to homeless women I come across here in New York City. Here’s what the box includes currently:

I want to add to them and this is where I could use your help. I want to include individual packets of Aleve as well as gift cards to Starbucks. The Aleve I can buy myself, but I want to include $10-$20 Bux cards, which adds up.

Starbucks is everywhere in this city, so easily accessible, and I figure, with it getting cold, being able to get a hot drink and a hot wrap or sandwich would go a long way.

I just realized all the kids growing up with Spotify don’t have to spend money on specific music anymore, so they probably won’t have the memory of saving up money to buy their first CD and having it be something super cringy…like I think I saved up $15 for three weeks to buy the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack at Barnes & Noble when I was 9 and I was really proud of myself for that. My town is gone.

If you’ve been watching the news and paying attention to California, you’ve heard about the Camp Fire.

In a matter of hours, the fire jumped to 20,000 acres. This morning it reached 70,000. My town of Paradise, where I’ve lived my entire life, was consumed entirely. Very little containment has been reached and the situation is absolute hell.

My house was one of the first to go.

My mom and my sisters and I barely got out, in separate cars, and we got separated for 10 hours. My mom and little sister were stuck in Paradise with all my pets in the flames until my stepdad was able to get gas to them so they could get out. My cat was lost, and I personally was only able to grab an extremely small amount of my own belongings because I was helping my mom to grab important documents and photos and to get the pets situated.

We are now homeless, with no clue where to go from here, and desperately in need of help to get food, clothes, supplies, anything. My mom has been disabled for 3 years and we survive on a single income from my stepdad, who is a firefighter. His friends have been hurt trying to fight this. We have a dog with us, and two guinea pigs, and a bearded dragon.

My mom set up a fundraiser, even though we are not at all the type to ask for so much help.
