Titanic (film) trivia: Several members of the cast had no idea how the final scene was going to be used or if it was going to be included at all until they actually saw the film. Victor Garber says “When we shot the last scene, we all thought "Oh, this will be cut.” I was shocked to see it actually in the film because it was such a kind of a theatrical moment. And of course, it worked perfectly.“ Kate Winslet also recalls "Leo and I were like, "How are they going to use this? What, she went back to the dead? or she died too and they met again on the vessel once she died?” We could never quite figure out what it was going to mean.“
I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what’s gonna happen or, who I’m gonna meet, where I’m gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life’s a gift and I don’t intend on wasting it. You don’t know what hand you’re gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you.. to make each day count.
Don’t you understand? The water is freezing and there aren’t enough boats. Not enough by half. Half the people on this ship are going to die.

Arthur Rostron, Captain of the Carpathia
Then, from across the water there came what Archibald Gracie called “the most horrible sounds ever heard by mortal man.” To Hugh Woolner, it was “the most fearful and bloodcurdling wail,” to Rene Harris it was “a sound …. as will haunt all one’s life and into eternity.”
… Lawrence Beesley thought that the cries carried with them “every possible emotion of human fear, despair, agony, fierce resentment and blind anger, mingled—I am certain of this—with notes of infinite surprise, as though each one were saying, "How is it possible that this awful thing is happening to me?"
—Hugh Brewster, Gilded Lives, Fatal Voyage
April 15th, 1912, around 9:00 am: the last Titanic survivors have been taken aboard the Carpathia.
