Unorganized Chaos

@un-organized-chaos / un-organized-chaos.tumblr.com

I'm gonna lead you down the path that rocks.

“Neck lengths of birds + aggression: a study.”

A Reminder of Horrors Past:

Queztalcoatlus northroppi, the largest thing to ever fly and at least 30% neck by mass.  Also one of the primary predators of saurpods, whose babies it would swallow whole like an awful prehistoric pelican.

Sometimes I like to imagine a Jurassic Park where the scientists decided to clone back/construct all the really fucked up shit form the age of the dinosaurs.

Can we please take a moment to talk about this man? He is not what you would look and say “He is a superhero.” He also doesn’t have any type of superpower, he don’t fly, or have super strength, or has the mutant gene. But he had a choice to do between what was right or wrong, and even though he knew if he didn’t do as Rumlow was asking Rumlow would kill him and just do it, he preferred not to do and die. Because he wanted to do what was the right thing to do.

Okay here’s the super important thing about this guy. He has some incredibly distinct Jewish features. Obviously this doesn’t mean that the actor or the character is Jewish, but it means that when I first saw him, as a Jewish person myself, he reminded me of many boys I went to synagogue with, and my JCC’s summer camp, and so on. [EDIT: The actor is Jewish. It’s confirmed on IMDB. Also his name is Aaron Himelstein.]

I don’t think casting this man was an accident. Because HYDRA are NAZIS. No matter how far they come from that time, they’re still Nazis. And here we have this one man, possibly Jewish, who takes the only stand he can against Rumlow. He choses to die to protect the world against HYDRA, and I truly believe his decision is what turned the tide for the rest of the SHIELD agents to oppose the STRIKE team. It’s so powerful to have this be a person, a person whose family was most likely directly attacked by HYDRA, a person who is fully comprehending the price he’ll pay and what it means, be a hero. I love him so much. I have a lot of feelings about this man.

I think the reason this character resonated so strongly with the audience (and with me!) as a whole is that we are shown how the “little people” can be heroes in some capacity too.

We, the audience, go to these superhero films and watch something while in suspended belief. We see superheroes fall into the role of heroes because they have a unique defining characteristic that makes them heroes. Whether this be super-strength or the ability to fly, this characteristic sets them apart from the rest of us “little people” and makes them “a hero”.

But here, we have a hero. He doesn’t have superpowers. He works a 9-5 job. He’s a technician. He probably has coffee stain on his shirt. He probably keeps losing his pens and knows his colleagues take them. He’s a “little person”. He’s a hero.

We, the audience, are reflected in this character because we need to see, and be reminded, that when we are faced with a decision to do either the right thing or the easy thing, we don’t need superpowers to make the right decision.

This is becoming so much more relevant as the years go by and neo-nazism is on the rise. The fact that this character is canonically jewish-coded just adds another layer to this.  We need to make the right decision.

Damn. Brilliant take. In addition to this, I think what also resonated with me that in that moment, he was truly mirroring Steve Rogers. Not Captain America, not the Golden Boy, but specifically Steve Rogers. The little guy who was also a regular man, didn’t have superpowers but was willing to sacrifice himself by throwing his body on a (albeit, decoy) grenade. And that’s what the whole thing is about. Steve Rogers was never a superhero. He was someone with a good heart. And that’s why I think this was such a cool detail. This dude knew he would probably be dead within seconds by refuting Rumlow’s orders and yet, he didn’t care.

Balls of steel.

I completely agree @bluemusickid, never thought of it that way but now you’ve brought it to my attention it makes so much sense.

The only thing I disagree with you on, is the part where you say “he didn’t care”. In my opinion, I think he did care. I think he was panicking, I think his hands were shaking, I think he thinking about the gun that Rumlow had holstered, but he chose to put the lives of millions above his own in that second.

Like you said, he’s mirroring the humble beginnings that Steve stemmed from, perhaps he emphasises how everyone has a piece of hero in them only if they act upon it. I know this quote is from DC but it fits beautifully in this: “you can either do nothing, or you can do something.”

He did something, the right thing, while having full knowledge that he faced the real possibility of being killed for it. “… didn’t have superpowers but was willing to sacrifice himself” exactly. In just one scene, he’s easily become my favourite Marvel character because of it.

His name is Cameron Klein. Balls of steel indeed.

@kestrafagnor would love to hear your thoughts on this, what do you think?

Also, the way he says “Captain’s orders”.

Everyone in SHIELD grew up with the legend of Captain America. All of them. Some of them even, joined SHIELD for the same reason Steve did, because Peggy was the founder and historically she was tied to Cap. Yet, lately, their beliefs have been thrown out when put on a manhunt of their icon.

Maybe this is also the first time in months that Cameron feels like he’s doing what he signed off for. Not to be a complacent little technician, but to follow Captain America.

So yeah. Captain’s Orders.

Cackling.

In case the original goes away:

(Falling to my knees, begging, pleading)

Please.

Folks, seriously.

PLEASE.

Do not - and I can’t emphasize this enough - set the state on fire this weekend.

Fire danger is abnormally high this holiday weekend.

URGING you to consider firework alternatives:

- screaming “bang! boom!” at the sky

- dropping a stack of large books on the floor

- wrapping a toga around a candle

- play America the Beautiful while combining Coke and Mentos

keep seeing Temu ads on here so just to share cause idk if people are widely aware
