A letter from Keith Haring, to a young Basquiat ♥️
“Satisfy yourself. Don’t do it for anyone else.”
Trying to master drunken noodles. Good on the noodles. Good sauce. The perfect sauce still eludes me...
i’ll never understand the body’s constant effort to be alive. my brain can give up a million times before my heart will stop trying
The reality is the brain doesn't give up either. It just quits making conscious efforts because the neural circuits never hit a "reward" state. So the brain quits so it can rewire. This is what happens on all learning. You reach the limit of conscious effort because the networks to make additional effort simply don't exist. New connections need to be made, but more importantly old connections must be dropped. That's what happens during sleep. Reconfiguration. That's what happens in all learning. Reconfiguration of neural connections. The trick is simply not to quit the brain will wire itself up to represent the problem you are trying to solve. The neurons don't know or care what the problem is. They just want to wire up efficiently. It's what they do. Of course some of those neurons never think they are wired up efficiently. And those neurons are what compel us to keep learning.
