Hi there! My name is Ukitake Jushiro, and I am the captain of the 13th division in the Gotei 13. I am very friendly and, to the best of my ability, I try to avoid conflict. Unfortunately, I have a persistent illness that requires me to take time off to recover occasionally. I really enjoy ohagi, caring for my bonsai, and feeding the koi. It's very nice to meet you! Rangiku was lounging about in the office she shared with her captain. Luckily she wasn’t being constantly reminded of paperwork since Toshiro had stepped out of the office for the moment. He didn’t say where he was going; only that he would be back soon. As soon as he had left, she had taken her sake and magazines out. She wasn’t expecting anyone to stop by the division anytime soon, so she was surprised when someone did enter the office.
She was happy to see that it was Captain Ukitake. He must’ve been looking for Toshiro. She giggled when she noticed all the candy he was carrying. It was definitely for Toshiro, she had seen him come back with candy a few times. “Ukitake-taicho!” she said with a smile as she stood up. “I’ve been doing good, a little bored, but great.” She answered. “How are you doing?” she asked pouring him a small glass of sake. “Here, I insist.” She said with a big smile as she handed him the glass. “You must’ve been looking for Hitsugaya-taicho. He stepped out for the moment.” She said having a seat. “He’ll be back soon, so have a seat.” She said.
Ukitake entered the office feeling welcomed by the fukutaicho.
“I’ve been feeling quite well. It’s been nice to be out and about without worrying too much about my health,” answered Ukitake. He accepted Rangiku’s invitation to some sake. The captain set down the treats by the door and proceeded to sit down for a drink.
“Ah yes, I was looking for Hitsugaya, but it isn’t that important. I found some candy from the world of the living and thought I’d stop by. I know he has a fondness for the sweet confections,” the white haired man said as he smiled.
“I do have to say that I haven’t had some sake in a while though. The last time I drank was with Shunsui and that was some time ago. I had to take it easy because I was feeling under the weather,” Ukitake began, “but this will be nice. So how’s the tenth division been lately?” he finsished before he took his first sip of sake. “My this tastes better than I thought it would, arigato.”
Rangiku knew about the captain’s health condition. She recalled the time when he went to the beach with the Shinigami Women’s Association. “It’s good to hear you’ve been doing well.” She said with a smile as she picked up her own glass of sake and poured more into it.
“Thanks for bringing the candy, I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.” She said with a smile. She knew just how much her captain loved to eat sweet things. “He loves to eat sweets and he loves watermelon flavored things.” She said recalling the time she found out how watermelon was his favorite fruit.
Rangiku was happy that he was having sake again. “Well, I’m glad you’re feeling okay to have some now.” She said with a smile. Rangiku thought about his question on the tenth division. “Well, we’re all doing okay.” She said taking a sip. “I recently went on another sake trip with some of the guys. We had a really fun drinking competition.” She said with a smile. Of course, she always ended up winning those. “Just don’t tell Hitsugaya-taichou. He doesn’t know.” Rangiku said with a sheepish laugh. “Other than that though, everything is normal.” She said with a smile. “Sake tends to taste better than you remember if you haven’t had it in a while.” She noted. “You’re welcome, there’s more when you’re ready.” She said with a smile.
Ukitake smiled as the fukutaicho commented on his sugary snacks, “I believe Hitsugaya taicho is quite fond of them.  I do enjoy them too, but I need to be careful with how many I have.  Sometimes, too much sugar gives me the worst headaches.” The captian paused slightly to brush away his white hair; “I’ve been feeling very good, so I thought I would pass these on for the tenth division, I really don’t want to become ill because of these snacks.”  The captain concluded and took a cautious sip, and then continued to drink his sake.  “I’m glad to hear that your division is doing well!”
After a few more sips, Ukitake inquired “Oh, a sake trip?  I haven’t gone to have sake in a while, I think the last time was with Shunsui,” the captain paused as he recalled the chain of following events.  He chuckled slightly and continued, “We had been drinking all afternoon and by evening neither of us could remember what time we came in, but I remember on our way back, Shunsui fell into my koi pond and almost ruined his kimono.”  Ukitake reflected for a moment then asked, “So how did your competition work? And don’t worry, I won’t tell Hitsugaya taicho.”
Rangiku nodded when the captain told her how he needed to be careful since too many sweets gave him bad headaches. She thought it was humorous that he liked the sweets as well. “At least you can have a little bit.” She commented with a smile. She knew how important it was for one to have something that they really liked even if it was only in small portions. She couldn’t imagine not having sake. “Well, the tenth division thanks you. Toshiro would be more than happy to take them off your hands.” She said with a giggle. Even if he did try to avoid things that would make him appear childish, it was no secret that he loved to indulge in some sweets.
Rangiku was happy when he asked about the sake tip. She liked to talk about her sake trips. “Sake trips are so much fun.” She commented with a smile. She smiled when he mentioned how the last time he went was with the eighth division captain. “Yes, Kyoraku-taicho does know how to have a good time.” She said with a smile. The last time she had sake with the eighth division captain had been a while ago. She liked how he was just as lazy as her and loved sake as much as she did. When she heard how Ukitake’s trip with Kyoraku had been, she couldn’t help but let out a little laugh. “That’s good he didn’t ruin it, he goes everywhere with that kimono.” She commented. She gave a relieved sigh when she was told he wouldn’t tell her captain. “It was wonderful! We all take shots until the last person is left. Either the guys pass out or they just can’t drink anymore.” She answered. “I usually win though; the guys never learn.” She said with a laugh as she shook her head.

Ukitake laughed as the fukutaicho told him about her trip and her drinking games.  He couldn’t help but wonder how many shots of sake he would be able to handle.  Not many no doubt, especially since he hadn’t drank in such a long time due to his health.  He chuckled quietly to himself as he listened and pondered.  “That does sound like a fun trip.  Where did you go?” Ukitake asked, he was genuinely curious, because if he was feeling as well as he had been lately, he might have to go and enjoy an afternoon or evening there sometime.

“Do you have any water, I don’t want to drink too much sake yet.  I’ve been doing good today so far and I don’t want to end up in my koi pond today.” The captain asked.  He was feeling gradual effects of his sake after finishing his glass.  He hadn’t drunk in a long time and was still being cautious.  “So does the tenth squad have any missions coming up?”

The friendly captain once more thanked Hanataro for the medicine and began his walk towards the 8th division barracks to meet with Shunsui.

Ukitake turned around slightly when he heard the voice of Hanataro, of the fourth division.  The captain had just been walking to visit Shunsui, when he was approached by the timid boy. "Oh from Unohana-san? Thank you Hanataro, How are you?" Ukitake liked Hanataro, as the boy had once played a part in helping Rukia, before she was to face the sokyoku. The man nodded at the young shinigami, "I'm feeling a lot better, arigatou, and be sure to pass my thanks on to Unohana-san!"

A Surprising Visit [@sakeneko]

The thirteenth squad captain had just finished filling out paperwork when he realized he had not checked up with the tenth squad in a while.  Ukitake had a slight preference to the squad’s captain because like himself, Hitsugaya taicho shared a head of white hair.  Since he was visiting his pal Toshiro, he packed some extra snacks from the world of the living to share with the taicho.  I have a feeling Hitsugaya taicho will like the drop in.  After Ukitake had picked out a good selection on confections, he started his relaxing walk to the tenth squad base.

After awhile, Ukitake realized he could not find his fellow shiro.  During his last look for Hitsugaya, the thirteenth division captain ran into the tenth squad fukutaicho, Matsumoto Rangiku.

“Hey there Matsumoto-fukutaicho!  How have you been?”  Ukitake asked.

Hi Captain Ukitake! Just wanted to drop by and visit. ;)-Rangiku

Ukitake looked up in time to hear Matsumoto enter and address him.  The captain was just finishing up some last minute documents and filing reports from his subordinates, so he had time to spare. "No problem Matsumoto fukutaicho! Please, by all means, come in and join me for a drink", he answered happily.

Unwavering Kindness [@Ukitake]

Renji had always liked Ukitake-taichou, he was friendly with everyone no matter their rank or position. He also had great respect for the man, even though his body appeared frail Renji knew great strength was still there.
“Good afternoon Ukitake-taichou. How are you feeling today?” He asked, genuinely concerned about the man’s health.

The captain was slightly surprised by the fuku-taichou's greeting.  Usually Renji came around to the 13th division on Soul Society business or to find Rukia, which usually had to do with the first.  Ukitake was fond of the man since he always seemed to be looking out for Kuchiki.

"I'm doing quite well, I am just returning from my walk on the grounds.  It is a nice day for that," the captain truthfully answered.  The man was planning on spending the rest of the day outdoors, drinking tea, or possibly fitting time to work on some of his bonsai.

"Thank you for asking!" Ukitake continued, "Would you care to join me for some tea out back?  I was thinking about finishing off the afternoon with some."

Anonymous asked:

Ukitake-san how come you don't wear your hair in a ponytail anymore? It looked really nice!

Ukitake thought about his few past hairstyles, one of which included this old ponytail.  Hmm, I really don't know why I ever got rid of that ponytail. It really kept his hair out the way when he would be out on missions or relaxing in the comfort of his own quarters.

"I believe it was because I was sick for awhile and since I was always in bed it didn't matter how my hair looked.  Maybe I'll try it again sometime.  Thank you anon!"

The compliment took the captain by surprise, and it made his day.  He smiled once more at the gray blob and continued on his way.

Anonymous asked:

Who is your best friend? If you don't have one, let's be besties!

The captain glanced at the anon, wondering how all these humans were making their way into soul society. His best friend? Of course it was his long time friend Kyoraku shunsui. They had been close ever since the academy days, when they were much younger, and things had been more simple.  Ukitake had always been a little weak or ill due to his illness, but Shunsui always stood by and supported him. Ukitake replied to the anon, "My best friend would have to be Kyoraku Shunsui, if you know him, and I am always open to making new friends, so hello there!!"

my beloved bonsai

*cough cough* A certain white haired man just awoke from his slumber due to coughing from an, all too familiar, illness, fumbling with his robe, he reluctantly rose from his futon.  As Ukitake glanced out the window of his room, he witnessed a radiant sunrise and felt the accompanying breeze that came with the crisp morning air. It was too beautiful of a day to stay ill in bed, so he decided to greet the morning by partaking in one of his favorite activities of caring for his bonsai trees.  Being outside will be good for my health, and my trees indeed do need to be trimmed, thought the man.  Illness having flared up for a short period of time, the captain had not had much time to spend grooming his beloved trees.  After a lengthy session of trimming, shaping, and fighting off unruly branches, he stopped for a moment and reflected.

Whew… it was good to get some fresh air this morning; I usually am more affected by my illness, however today I actually feel quite pleasant.  After all, it is so serene to engage in an art I enjoy.  Hmm, it would be a shame to let the rest of the morning go to waste when I am feeling so at peace.   He ran a hand through his long white locks as he adjusted his robe.  I think I’ll prepare some tea and head off for a relaxing walk.

After slowly sipping his soothing hot tea, the captain began his stroll around seireitei.  As he headed off past his quarters, he admired the recent growth of his koi, in the pond adjacent to his room.  The koi sure have grown quite large, he pondered happily.

The captain moved on and continued his wanderings, lost in memories from the days when Kaien was his lieutenant, and in what seemed like no time at all he found himself near his squad barracks.  How long have I been walking for? thought the captain.

Anonymous asked:

Are you still sick?

He regarded the person carefully, It was someone the man had never met before. "Well hello there!" he exclaimed happily, Ukitake always loved meeting new people.  It also seemed the person was in fact human! "Thank you for your concern, I am feeling much better these days" he smiled as he glanced at the human.

@rafraichir

The white haired man was sitting in his quarters when suddenly Kiyone and Sentarou burst into his office, both bubbling from excitement, to report their latest activities.  He had sent both of them down to the real world to assist Rukia with her report, and they returned with all sorts of objects and sweets.  With nothing better to do with the snacks he decided to go find Toshiro and give them to him, rather than Ukitake eating them himself.

The man took off on his walk, happy to be feeling better, rather than staying in bed all day due to his tiring illness.  Then, he spotted the young captain of the tenth division.  "Yo Hitsugaya-kun I brought you more sweets!" exclaimed the man.

yachiru-chan:
”Ukki-Ukki!” Yachiru exclaimed with excitement. It was always great to stop by at the white-haired taicho, especially when she just had released the koi in his pond. After all, Kuchiki-taicho didn’t mind. Plus, she could always get some candy. Yachiru never complained about that…
Yachiru’s eyes scanned the pond for the koi she just had released. The koi was easy to find, since it quickly disappeared whenever the pink-haired fukutaicho was near it. Still, the amount of koi in his pond was still lacking for Yachiru, but she kept that for herself. It was her habit.
Yachiru’s eyes lightened up as she saw the candy which Ukitake offered her. She gladly accepted them, taking them all with her small, greedy hands. She stuffed them all in her mouth, enjoying it. Candy was just the one thing she needed, as she tasted the various flavours.
”Ukki, which koi is the biggest one?” Yachiru asked while taking a bite out of a cookie. She looked again into the pond, this time searching for the biggest koi. She wondered if the koi had names…

The captain looked on while the small fukutaicho happily enjoyed the snack he offered her.  Ukitake continued to observe the pond, happily pondering why his koi had, not only, grown in a short amount of time, but also multiplied!  The man would often feed the koi, due to periods when his illness would flare up.  During those times he would rest in his quarters with only the peaceful fish as his company.  He very much enjoyed feeding them, as it relaxed him and offered him time to think.

He often thought of the old days; when he first became a captain, as well as when Kaien acted as his fukutaicho.  Those were such peaceful days, he thought.  Ukitake turned back to the pink haired girl, wondering where Zaraki-taicho was, it was rare to see those two separated from each other.  “Yachiru-chan, where is Zaraki-taicho today, aren’t you usually with him?” he inquired.

”Ukki-Ukki!” Yachiru exclaimed with excitement. It was always great to stop by at the white-haired taicho, especially when she just had released the koi in his pond. After all, Kuchiki-taicho didn’t mind. Plus, she could always get some candy. Yachiru never complained about that fact.
”Ukki! How are your fish?” She ran over to him, glancing in the pond now and then. ”They are doing fine, right Ukki?” Yachiru looked at him with her big eyes, making her an innocent fukutaicho.

The white haired man turned around at hearing the cheerful exclamation of the young lieutenant of the 11th division.  Ukitake liked the pink haired girl, as he always had a soft spot for children.

She had just asked about the koi in his pond, at which is pride for them swelled enormously.  Those fish surely grew at a tremendous rate, and the captain never grew tired of admiring and feeding the peaceful fish that serenely passed through the waters near his quarters.

The captain regarded the girl with a smile, “the koi are wonderful and are growing at an increasingly fast rate, Yachiru-chan!” he answered happily as they both viewed the pond just outside the window.  Ukitake then offered the girl some sweets while she searched the pond, with her large eyes, for the koi.

The man felt a presence behind him and he recognized it to be none other than the substitute shinigami, Kurosaki Ichigo.  Ukitake turned around and glanced at the boy that looked strikingly similar to his past lieutenant Shiba Kaien.  Ukitake felt a strong sense of gratefulness towards the boy as he was the one that saved his subordinate Rukia from being sent to her death, as well as saving all of soul society.  A wide smile graced the man’s features as he greeted the boy, “Yo Ichigo-kun!”
