THE VICTIM PARTY - Getting To Know... LP I'm extremely stoked to be releasing this, the second LP by one of the best Canadian punk bands in ages-- it's not a reissue, but once I heard the recording, it became my most-listened to music of 2014 and I had to get it on vinyl. THE VICTIM PARTY hail from Toronto, and feature members of various 'name' bands of the past couple decades, including frontman Colin of Marilyn's Vitamins, whose first EP came out on Ugly Pop seventeen years ago! The music here is very strong, tuneful punk rock, fast-paced and tough with smart lyrics spat out by the duel male/female vocals, and the songwriting is exceptional. This draws on too many influences to be easily pinned down, but it's a good bet you'll dig it if you like Dillinger Four, Leatherface, Marked Men or Cleveland Bound Death Sentence. VICTIM PARTY - Getting To Know The... LP Just submitted this, and it'll turn a lot of heads. Not the usual Ugly Pop fare, but a current Toronto band doing extremely strong, perfectly-executed melodic punk reminiscent of early Dillinger Four, Leatherface and the like (not NOFX-style foodcourt skatepunk, lest that need be emphasised). Only 500 to be pressed, but an essential grip-- I'm very stoked about this one.

X “X-Spurts” LP (UP053)
This is a revelation— ten tracks of incredibly tense, desperate Australian punk recorded in 1977 and somehow forgotten for the next 35 years. Absolutely essential stuff for fans of the era, coming across like nothing so much as a berserk mix of “Pink Flag”, early Black Flag and the toughest early AC/DC, or Gang Of Four as played by belligerent Australian drunks. Out August on Ugly Pop, alongside a new reissue of their legendary 1979 debut LP.

Thor’s Hammer “Better Days” from If You Knew: Icelandic Punk & Beat ‘65-‘67! (2014)

Newly reissued on the reliable Ugly Pop Records, a compilation of Icelandic band Thor’s Hammer singles. There’s some rockers on here for sure, but its got a fair share of tender ballads for the softies out there, too. Very well-curated, a nice variety of songs, plus some sung in the band’s native tongue. Bone up on your Icelandic and grab a copy now so you can sing along. It is highly recommended that you bundle up with that Bent Wind reissue LP - that there is a real face-melter.
