Spaceship! Scrunchface!

@tzun / tzun.tumblr.com

in·clu·siv·i·ty/ˌinklo͞oˈsivədē/nounthe practice or policy of including people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or mental disabilities and members of minority groups. What it doesn't mean: let's tollerate Nazi abuse.

So this is from one of my all-time favourite TNG episodes, “Disaster”. It’s surprisingly light-hearted for a story where the whole ship gets trashed (by a “quantum filament,” a totally real scientific phenomenon for sure) and everyone gets stuck in mild fish-out-of-water peril for the next 40 minutes. So Worf has to deliver a baby, and Troi has to take command when the ranking bridge redshirt eats it, and poor Captain Picard—who is deeply, deeply uncomfortable around children—ends up stuck in an elevator with three science fair winners and his ankle broken, so he deputizes the kids as his temporary “crew” to keep them from completely losing their shit.

I’ve probably seen this one dozens of times since 1992 or ’93, and here I’ve always thought, “Aww, Picard’s not as bad with kids as he thinks!” But I think he’s actually doing this for himself? Because he only knows one way to relate to other human beings? And like… oh my god, Jean-Luc, you can’t even talk to an 11-year-old in a life or death situation without field promoting her to lieutenant first you absolute trainwreck

(Bonus: the sickest burn on Riker in all 178 episodes)

THIS ENTIRE EPISODE WAS PURE GOLD HONESTLY

Anonymous asked:

Do you consider cat declawing to be unethical, and if so, what would you consider to be the best alternative?

yeah declawing is ABSOLUTELY unethical from a medical standpoint, and I'll tell you why!

so this is what a cat's paw looks like on the inside:

take a quick second to look it over, and note which parts of it are actually touching the ground and bearing the cat's weight.

it's the "palm" and the ends of the toes, right?

well, that's the problem. so you probably ALSO noticed that the cat's claws are actually attached to those last toe bones, which is why when a cat is declawed, they remove that entire last toe joint like this:

so the issue is, the bone that was bearing the cat's weight is gone. it no longer exists. this forces the weight of the cat's body onto the end of the second bone, here:

and that's a HUGE fucking problem. that bone was never meant to touch earth, the ends of it are covered in nerves and connective tissue instead of padding! putting weight on it WILL cause the cat pain, chronic-for-the-rest-of-your-life pain!

cats are terrible about actually expressing pain, but if you pay attention to how declawed and non-declawed cats walk, you'll notice that declawed cats put their feet down much more gingerly and are more hesitant with their first steps.

and this is because it hurts.

please don't declaw your cat. just use claw caps or keep their nails trimmed.

thanks for attending my TED talk bye

Oh godTT

Awwwh! That poor kitty!

This is part of the reason I want to adopt a black cat, they’re not bad luck, they’re beautiful and deserve love and a home and I just love them so much! It’s like a walking, meowing void

I love anything and everything that portrays death/the grim reaper as kind and benevolent. And just… Death holding the kitten is so frikin cute! I can’t.

I love this version of DEATH. If you like this I would definitely recommend the Discworld Series by Sir Terry Pratchett, especially the books centered around DEATH (Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Thief of Time) His depiction of DEATH is very human, he loves cats and he loves humans, he once took a human girl as his daughter and a human boy as his apprentice (Mort).

“ALL THINGS THAT ARE, ARE OURS. BUT WE MUST CARE. FOR IF WE DO NOT CARE, WE DO NOT EXIST. IF WE DO NOT EXIST, THEN THERE IS NOTHING BUT BLIND OBLIVION. AND EVEN OBLIVION MUST END SOMEDAY. LORD, WILL YOU GRANT ME JUST A LITTLE TIME? FOR THE PROPER BALANCE OF THINGS. TO RETURN WHAT WAS GIVEN. FOR THE SAKE OF PRISONERS AND THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS. Death took a step backwards. It was impossible to read expression in Azrael’s features. Death glanced sideways at the servants. LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?”

― Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man
