Dear DC Writers… It’s Time To Bring Back Bruce Wayne.
Dear DC Writers,
Please bring back Bruce Wayne.
Don’t get me wrong I love Batman.
Always have.
But Bruce Wayne was the character that pulled me into comics.
The Bruce Wayne that ran a victims advocacy charity and used his Yale LAW degree to fight for victims rights. The character that took on slum lords and big business loan sharks.
Who volunteered at soup kitchens. Or gathered evidence for the FBI regarding prescription drug price fixing by Gotham’s elite. The character that fought for libraries on every street corner in Gotham. The character that helped Leslie run and fund medical clinics.
I want to see Bruce being called the Justice League’s “mob lawyer” by Lex Luthor or a Steve Bannon character.
I want to Bruce Wayne go head to head with a Alex Jones character. Because Bruce Wayne knows what it’s like to lose a loved to violence and have people try to exploit that tragedy. I want him adding his voice to the growing of people that’s lost loved ones to gun violence.
I want to see him standing up to people in power targeting minorities for violence. Because fuck that. The Bruce Wayne I grew up reading HATES bullies.
I want to see him react with other characters like Hal Jordan knowing that there’s people in this country that want him dead because his mother was Jewish. I want him to do a family project with Damian and realize that his mother’s branch of the family tree was the only one that survived Shoah.
I love Batman.
But Bruce Wayne is more relevant than ever.
It’s time to bring him back.
I miss him too, because Bruce Wayne is not only the poor tortured boy who gave life to Batman but also the man who has done everything in his power to improve the world, to help his city and try to prevent the tragedy that befell him, happen to more people.
