Hi, welcome to my blog!

My name is Alexandra, and I'm 22 years old. I'm a Christian. I joined tumblr for the aesthetic boards, and stayed for the beautiful Christian writing sub-community I found here. I've been writing and drawing ever since I learned to hold a pencil in my hand. Art, especially narrative art is one of my life passions. My life motto is that everything, both art and life itself, is a story.

My dream job is to teach linguistics to university students, and, of course, one of my life passions is indeed linguistics. I am currently a senior in college, studying English and Russian philology. I am slowly but surely on my way to becoming a polyglot. In my free time, aside from writing, drawing and listening to music whilst doing so, I like reading webcomics, webnovels and fanfic but also articles and blogs, watching movies, video essays and AMVs, and listening to audiobooks. I am on my way to forming a baseline of general knowledge. Learning about the world, in general, is also one of my life passions, hence my wanting to pursue an academic career.

where is that renaissance painting with those two fellers and a giant fucking random skull on the floor that looks like it was accidentally stretched out in photoshop

THANK YOU

somebody please explain

Someone once told me it’s like that because it was designed to be hung in a stairwell so the skull pops out as you walk past.

…I guess it works but you have to be at a pretty sharp angle

There was a whole trend at one point where artists would include something in their paintings (usually a skull, for whatever reason) that’s super distorted in just the right way so that it looks normal if you hold the painting up to a convex/concave mirror. I have absolutely no idea why. But I think that’s what’s going on here.

In case anyone’s curious, here’s what it looks like when you walk past it irl:

It does have a 3D effect to it! It’s pretty neat, guess it would be even more impressive to people from the 14th century.

honestly, people just looking at the skull are missing the real deal here

You can read any implied text you see in this thing, even the book, that’s how detailed it is. Look at the painting on those letters!

jesus christ you’re just showing off now, Hans!

HANS OH MY GOD

anyway, the skull apparently had some meaning about the transcendence of death, you can only see it clearly when you can’t see the world clearly and vice versa, but man, I’m all about the detail in this guy’s shit

No, I think you’re missing the real deal here

as an art historian, i think this is the best post on tumblr

I’m just saying, this would be an incredible idea for some Lockwood & Co fanart - because you know Skull would be all about looking like he’s watching everyone who passes by, he is such a gossip hound.

Me Finding Out Protestants Outright Believe Praying for the Souls of the Departed is a Sin:

THIS WHY YOU GUYS GOT SO MANY GHOSTS

Y’all never thought that praying for people who have passed could be a good thing???? You think that’s a bad thing??? Bruh Purgatory fucking SUCKS and y’all just leaving people there with no epic anime friendship speech??? You leaving them there on their own????

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU GUYS DON’T BELIEVE IN PURGATORY?!

You think as you are now you can face God? If a meteor crashed directly into you right this second, you think you, in all your tumblr using sin can face God and not EXPLODE?!

Buddy if you can’t handle looking directly into the sun after getting your eyes dilated by the optometrist then you sure as pickles can’t handle looking directly at God without having a buffer

THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST CONTINUALLY CLEANSES US FROM OUR SINS

Do you think His sacrifice was only partially effective or something???? Is the LifeBlood of God not a pure enough sacrifice????? You think we are more powerful than the Almighty’s power to save?.?

(I’m not sure I would personally say praying for the dead is a sin but I would definitely assert that it is ignorant and has no effect on their eternity)

if you knit or crochet you need to know math. "oh, because you have to count the stitches?" you'd think so wouldn't you. well it's actually because sometimes the yarn gets so messed up you can't untangle it without becoming an expert in the field of topology
