Stop bringing up Black Lives Matter when you are protesting racism.

Especially if you never talk about. Black Natives, or never support black protestors (who have already been criminalized for protesting for their LIVES). These costumes are so dehumanizing and they have been doing this to Native peoples for long time. But the way these people brought up BLM displays a major misunderstanding of what that movement is about.

BLM was started because they let our murderers walk due to antiblack racism, as in they argue that murdering us isnt a crime because, by nature of our blackness, we have to have deserved it. So we had no value. BLM addressed that. Stop implying that these “significant protests” werent built up from years worth of the hard work and pain of black people (mainly black women, who are also major victims of dehumanization and sexual assault), and they werent demonized, arrested, and they still didnt have to watch their murderers walk nearly every time. Dont contribute to our dehumanization by reducing those protests (which were about non black people’s ambivalence over out deaths and unwillingness to see us as victims) down to just “angry people blocking highways” and by equating being gassed, arrested, and even murdered our to freaking putting stickers on costumes. And yes, again, these costumes are racist and dehumanizing, but that has nothing to do with BLM. It’s not comparable unless you’re going to talk about the implicit black dehumanization behind the statement that they wont pull a *costume* unless there is a significant protest movement like BLM (because protesting for our lives is the same as social media uproar over costumes during Halloween season). Or at least bring up the miryad of racist, antiblack costumes folks come up with, many of which mock our enslavement or our murders.

And maybe non black people need to stop taking the damn bait whenever white people throw us under the bus and pretend they valued the same protests they attacked for years. If anyone knows what this is like it’s going to be the people who have to watch racists smear black grease paint on their faces and walk around carrying skittles and AZ tea every year. (Plus the Black Natives who always get tossed under the bus)

Yeah the CEO said that native Americans would need a big movement like BLM to get them to consider changing their policy, ignoring all the organizing and fighting Native activists have done around the issue.

It did read like they were adding their own comparison to BLM (like the CEO said significant protests but *they* made the comparison since it wasnt a direct quote from him). That’s how I read it, and I was livid that it seemed like this was *another* case of people falling for the bait and letting them deflect the blame on to black people (at the expense of black natives). I jumped the gun.

Shit, that did read like they said it and not the CEO at first.

Absolutely agree that people leverage the anti black comparisons, its something i combat in the #changethename movement. Politics of recognition and the white gaze reward ppl for throwing BP under the bus and it also gives WP the agency to interject and police Black and Indigenous resistance. I already touched on this in a few tweets and my other post about yandy on my tumblr, the argument is also anti black because BP have also been resisting fetishizati on for centuries. Also hypervusibility isn’t the solution cuz if it was we wouldn’t still be seeing costumes like the anti Black African voodoo sold. Any way I’m not making excuses cuz like I said a lot of ppl are complicit in playing into this oppression Olympics game with comparing Black and Indigenous struggles which are both interlinked and impacted by anti blackness. And from my experience I’ve watched how White men (comedians sports casters) have interjected themselves. Mike Wise even wrote an article asking ppl not to write the N word. That’s how confident white men get on policing other marginalized groups movements of reclaimation. So yeah I agree and I think it was totally shitty of Yandy to throw this out as bait hoping to deflect the issue.
