don’t support kinodraws
i never do this kind of thing but i’m so incredibly frustrated at this happening and this person still updating their profiles, including the one they have on tumblr, as if nothing happened (save for twitter since it’s one of the few places this is being actively talked about)
don’t support @kinodraws if you don’t want someone with a long history of scamming people to pocket your money!
to summarize this current situation:
they organized an ofmd zine, releasing a copy with missing/wrong credits, missing artists etc while the earnings of this zine were promised to go to charity. the charity has now confirmed there was no donation made on the date or amount they claimed to have made, kino has deleted all of the zine’s profiles and pages, fabricated having donated $1300+ to the charity (we have no receipts of how much the zine actually made so this amount is possibly made up as well) and after promising to fix the zine itself is now ignoring the situation completely
the current situation is better told by people involved and i’ll include a couple threads
it appears they’ve done this in multiple fandoms with multiple names before so i doubt they’ll stop as long as they keep getting away with this
all this said don’t go harrass kino or be an idiot, i wanted to make this post bc stealing, lying about it and expecting to let the situation die down as they move on is something i don’t want to happen again since it seems like that’s happened one too many times already. if you want to work with kino or commission them, please reconsider!
i put off reblogging this for a few days after it crossed my dash to think about uhhhh stuff. because my experience with kino as their ex-partner was obviously and painfully marred by the fact that they were 1. openly cheating on me with my (at the time) close friend 2. lying to me/the internet about their financial circumstances in order to elicit sympathy/money and 3. my latent, bubbling fury resulting from when i tried to warn multiple people and agencies about kino’s repeated scamming behaviors. this embittered me so much i just shut the fuck up about it to everyone and had my private meltdowns for a few years lol. sooo much therapy that it was embarrassing.
i dont have proof. it was 7 years ago on skype and my dead gay twitter account and my deader, gayer computers. and frankly it was much healthier to never relive any of that shit again.
if anything this post severely underplays the depths of their duplicitous and attention-seeking behavior. if they’re under any amount of pressure at all they will lie. or if they aren’t lying, they are openly using upsetting information about their personal life in order to manipulate you into feeling bad for them. they will lie about the motivations and behaviors of people you know. they will invent crises to keep you “on the hook” or to deflect from their behaviors.
everyone who has or had worked with kino since we broke up in 2016 was and is aware of their behaviors because i tried to warn them. i am pretty pissed to see that they have not become more of a human being in the years since we broke up. op i appreciate you trying to get the word out because literally no one listened to me for years. no one. even when people came back to me and said “jesus fucking christ you were right, what a fucking nut” THEY KEEP WORKING WITH THEM. AAAUGHH.
i feel like at this point i should clarify that at the time of making this post i wasn’t aware of half the things kino has been accused of other than very vague statements that the scamming has gone on for years, but by now i’ve gotten so many asks and dms that i’m honestly shocked that if there ever was a more comprehensive doc or archive of all of this, why wasn’t anyone informed sooner
there’s a bunch of asks by now i’ve tagged also under kinodraws on my blog with some more info/experiences with kino (there’s admittedly some asks people requested i not publish too) and one claiming a larger doc is in the works about all of this!
i’m so sorry for people kino has hurt over the years and that it’s taken this long or that it took a scam this scale for it to become more known, but please continue to share your stories! i’ve stated before i personally have no prior history with kino asides sharing their most recent fandom but i’ll continue to publish what people allow me to under the tag kinodraws!
Oh there’s much, much, much more than just the zine issue here. That’s just current history, really. However, I was one of the artists who’s art has never been included in the zine (Kino ~forgot~ about them and then implied it was on us because they couldn’t find our emails) and one of those who tried to help them putting the file together before they went radio silence for then quietly proceed to delete everything. So yeah, apart from the teeny tiny detail that stealing from a fucking CHARITY is truly disgusting, I do care about this. We were used and deceived MULTIPLE times. On top of that, people paid for a faulty product that never got fixed. We’re not talking about a hundred bucks- it was 1300+ dollars they pocketed and then claimed to have donated. How anyone could gather the sheer audacity to falsely state they’ve donated to a charity more than once is beyond me. I’ll give them that: they got balls.
A know about a couple of amazing people who are putting together a comprehensive doc as we speak- I’m personally impatiently waiting for it. You won’t believe how LONG the misgivings list goes on. The second you think to yourself “well that must be it-“ BAM something else has to be added. Unbelievable.
Kino has blocked me on every social but last time I’ve heard from them, they accused me of harassing them. Note: I commented one of their idyllic IG stories, asking if they ever got the time to ALSO check on the donation issue. So don’t get fooled. With them, asking for accountability will inevitably always be translated to harassing.
