the reason dating men sucks nowadays is because they're all too scared of being made a "sucker" or something by women, when the reality is that we are all suckers in this game called life. buy that pretty girl some drinks or venmo that hot woman $20. every experience adds to the tapestry of our lives. existence can be a dream and we love to have fun

"what if i pay for this woman's drink but then she tells me she has a boyfriend" did you bring joy into the world? did you make others smile? will you remember this as an unfinished transaction or will you remember the time you made a stranger's life a little easier

I'm a little confused why should a man just give a stranger $20 for the experience of giving someone $20. That experience is not the best time a man could have with $20 and when giving people charity money most people give to the homeless or otherwise in need

the men buying women drinks aspect of dating is transactional and while that is terrible in many ways I don't think the proposed solution "men keep buying women drinks but no longer expect anything" is going to be very popular

really the expectation of men paying for things creates the undue pressure and expectations on all parties as always happens when money enters into an interpersonal relationship.

john you've clearly never given a stranger anything except a feeling of mild to extreme discomfort so i don't know if this post is for you

looked up the x files spin-off bc i was curious why i’d never heard of it and why it’s apparently not available to watch anywhere (especially given how huge x files is) and. this is crazy

no wonder they wiped this show off the face of the earth

Yeah you're right. It WOULD be pretty fucked up if you were a swan but you were raised by ducks and you grew up never seeing another swan or even knowing that such a thing as a swan even existed so you just thought you were a duck with something super wrong with it.

we are in a media literacy crisis

friendly reminder that characters don't need to be saints to be entertaining. and telling a story does not mean endorsement. art does not need to be all about morally good people.

IDK if this was meant as hyperbole but it's literally true:

We are genuinely in a crisis of media literacy, with ever fewer genuinely factual resources available in the style and language used by contemporary audiences.

It may sound condescending, but we genuinely need to remind people, or worse, explain to them for the first time that art is not evidence of real world behaviour.

So, thank you, for this reminder. Genuinely.

You're correct:

Art does not need to feature exclusively morally pure characters. Art is not proof of the creator's secret, violent desires.

Had a dream that there was a furry subculture revolving entirely around popular cryptids where nobody knew exactly what anybody else's fursona actually looked like because they exclusively drew themselves blurry and out of focus and/or really far away.

Here we go! Fursona reveal!
