i feel like that lana instagram post only really appeals to like, her hardcore stans who are still bitter about the unfair criticism she got earlier in her career. like yes, it was dumb that a woman writing about toxic relationships got a bunch of “think of the children!!!!” backlash as if every female artist has to be a Perfect Role Model for young women but she’s gotten TONS of critical acclaim since and that faux-feminist trend of expecting every woman to be a Strong Independent Woman™ is dying out as people realize it’s unrealistic. lana’s not a victim anymore, and clinging to that idea and claiming that current pop stars, many of whom are women of color, have not experienced lana’s level of criticism, comes off as massively out-of-touch at the very least
literally how fucking messed up could someone be to think “I’m going to write an open letter namedropping and putting down the music and experiences of women of color (+ ariana) so that there will be a spot in feminism for me, a rich white woman” and not see how that could possibly backfire

The post I saw the other day really was correct in that most of you cannot be trusted with eating the rich because you’ll eat people in nice neighborhoods and then turn to celebrities while the truly rich and powerful will sigh in relief and nothing will change. And in some ways, I get it. Celebrities are our meter for wealth. They live lavish and luxurious lives that we could only dream of. They waste money while people starve and their constant exposure makes you think that they hold power but they don’t. The 1%, the truly rich and powerful? Most of us don’t know their names. Most of us would have to do research to find out who they are.
