Rx: Comics

So, I have a Tumblr account.  I got into this just to Follow, you know, but thought maybe I should at least put a stake in the ground here, so to speak. . .

I've been ill this year, but recovering now, and feeling a lot better.  Along the way, I started reading a few graphic novels that piled up on my bedside table.  I hit it really lucky; so many were so good!  Here's the list of what I read, and marveled at, once I was able to concentrate again:

The Voyeur, Gabrielle Bell -- Bell is a deceptive cartoonist; at first her work looks terribly crude, but then the reader suddenly takes note of her strong grasp of gesture and body language. Her narratives are often so poignant and sweet and sad, and, tsk, I just want to give her a big bear hug sometimes!

Woman Rebel, Peter Bagge - Who knew?  Margaret Sanger, whatta life!  A book full of incident and spirited, expressive cartooning!

Black is the Color, Julia Gfrorer - A dark story, redeemed by the artist's delicate line and sympathy for the doomed protagonist.

The Nao of Brown, Glyn Dillon - I have a friend struggling with this same kind of disturbing OCD, so this one hit me right between the eyes.  And so many pages that were lovely just to look at!

The Love Bunglers, Jaime Hernandez - The Browntown sequence rings so true; it was the story of my family's collapse, too, back in the late 1970s.

They all helped lift me out of my gloom.  Take a bow, Comics!

Finally, Welcome! To my follower.

Take care, Frank, your work always fascinates and illuminates!!
