I just realised Britney's album In The Zone didn't release until November 2003, and the apocalypse starts in September of 2003 in The Last Of Us show. The world never got to hear Toxic by Britney Spears. Devastating.

No, you dont understand. She's been under scrutiny, he handle it beautifully. They were bringing up her history, he didnt even listen. He would break his back to make her break a smile. She thought the plane was going down, he turned it right around. All he ever wanted from her was sweet nothing. On the way home, she wrote a poem, he said "what a mind"; this happens all the time. All he did was smile, 'cause he knew she was a mastermind the entire time.

“And you are?”

“Edward the Banished, but you can call me Eddie. At your service, Prince Harrington.”

You know what broke me down?

When eleven was stuck with vecna and mike was trying to find the words to say to her so she could come back to him, he obviously was about to give up but Will Byers went and told him 'don't stop, you are the heart' and mike found the words to say to her.

Mike found the words because he believes that eleven thinks he's the heart. He found the words because he believes that eleven created that painting for him and that Wills words were hers.

But Will Byers is a fucking hero. He saw that mike needed something to hold on to eleven and Will pushed on through and instead of admitting that he created the painting for mike, that he is the one that believes Mike is the heart, that he is the one afraid of losing Mike because he needs him, he decided to chip away more of himself and told mike that it was eleven.

And because Will decided to put his best friends and sisters feelings above himself, he gave mike the words that helped eleven who in turn found the strength to continue the fight.

So yeah Will Byers a true fucking hero.

And that absolutely broke me down. How can a character continue to give and give and give and not feel any resentment for not receiving?

We talk about how in Stranger Things each group is living a different story genre, right? The kids are in a constant mystery, monster, treasure hunting Goonies story. The teenagers are usually in a horror slasher film. The adults are dealing with governmental conspiracies, be it American or Russian.

But you know who code-switches like nobody’s business? Steve Harrington. That’s what makes him such a wonderful character.

In s1 he goes from Romantic Triangle Comedy to Slasher Film Monster Hunting in a single scene and fully dives into it. S2 sees him joining the Spielberg genre gang with the kids, taking the “reluctant teenager tagalong” role on stride, not once complaining or missing a beat. And then! And then!! He goes full Russian conspiracy in s3, as his group figures the mystery out, infiltrates their base, undergoes torture, etc. Steve keeps up with each genre like a chameleon.

Maybe it’s because his stakes in this are oddly external. They are a choice he makes.

Unlike Nancy and Jonathan, he is not directly related to anyone in the kid or adult group… but he was briefly related to Nancy through their relationship. Enter slasher film.

Unlike the Party, he hasn’t been life-long friends with anyone involved… but he gets adopted into the group, much like Max, in s2 and becomes one of them. Enter spielberg film.

Unlike the Adults, he isn’t the legal guardian of any of the kids or teenagers involved… but he becomes the designated adult figure they all turn to. Enter conspiracy film.

Other characters have joined certain genres as they are added to the series: Max (Spielberg), Robin (conspiracy), Murray (conspiracy), Erica (Spielberg), Eddie (Slasher). And you could argue that as the seasons and groups morph, they each dip into other genres. Nancy and Jonathan did conspiracy quite a bit, Hopper has had his fair deal of monster hunting, the Cali gang is going through conspiracy right now, the Hawkins kids are dealing with a slasher… but no one does so as seamlessly or consistently as Steve Harrington does.

Anyway, I am obsessed with how Steve, despite his apparent lack of obvious stakes on the main Upside Down plot, by virtue of caring for people and choosing to help, has become such a central piece to the Stranger Things narrative, touching so many threads and fitting into almost every corner of the plot. Just because he is, to his core, a nice dude.

in case people didn’t know this

the Met Gala funds the Met Costume Institute. meaning, basically, the Met’s clothing collection

from what I’ve read, it is the main source of funding for the Institute, which houses over 31,000 garments and accessories from the 17th century onwards

as for why the Costume Institute needs a separate fundraiser from the rest of this vast world-class museum with many high-profile donors…I have often wondered that myself. in the same breath as wondering why the Met has so few and sparse costume exhibits in any given year, and why some pieces on their collections website are outright misdated

but that’s the situation, so. that’s what the Met Gala is for. it’s not just rich people parading around in couture for fun. it keeps a huge museum collection of historical clothing preserved, so people can learn from and be inspired by those garments for years to come

(via ticket sales to the aforementioned rich people parading around in couture. and, in the case of guests who attend for free, the designers who make said couture and pay for tables for their celebrity models as publicity)
