I don’t know if you’ve actually seen this episode, but Pam invites the entire office to her art show that she’s been gearing up for for a really long time. Nobody shows up except for Oscar and his partner (and they critique her work, calling her “lacking in courage” among other things, not realizing she is standing right behind them) and then Michael. And Michael is the only one who tells her she is great just for putting herself out there, and the only one who places value on what she’s done, and he points out all the little details she got right and notices absolutely every bit of hard work she put into it. And then treats Pam like the artist she is by not just paying her for her art, but displaying it where literally everyone can see it.

It’s one of my favorite episodes.

From a screenwriting standpoint the opening to Nisemonogatari is an utterly perfect execution of In Media Res.

I can tell you that if you opened a script with an opening like this you’d definitely have a reader intrigued.

If you’re gonna have an ignorant American attitude then please only stay on American posts. No one in North Europe has an AC in their houses. Stores, animal shelters, elderly houses, no one has AC. the houses are designed to keep the heat in. The people are not accustomed to the heat. A sudden climate shift like this is extremely dangerous to older people and babies specifically.

There are programs being run to inform elderly people what to do to not die in this heat. There was a heatwave in the Netherlands in 2010 in which approximately 500 more elderly people passed away than normally.

One thing people don’t often appreciate is that the southern US states are along the same latitude as the Middle Eastern deserts, rather than northern Europe. We’re not competing with Texas, we’re competing with northern Canada. If Saskatoon can’t handle Mexican weather, London can’t handle Middle-Eastern weather. It’s not built for it at all.

No, but that same pseudo-scientific bullshit can get normalized to the point that astrologers have policy input on the actions of elected officials.  To give the most blatant example, for the majority of the Reagan presidency, a single astrologer, Joan Quigley, reportedly had more control over the Reagans than his chief of staff did.

Looking up your horoscope certainly doesn’t give anyone polio but it does alter your perspective on the way the world works. The belief that astrology has an actual material impact on who we are as person is not exactly useful or helpful in reality. It doesn’t mean anything and like flat-earthers, it doesn’t hurt anyone but that doesn’t make it any more true or real.
