I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesn’t get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!

i’ve seen people say that books look like that though, which might be true, but reading a block of text on a piece of paper is different and a different kind of eye strain that reading the same text on a screen. Especially since AO3 formats based on the screen you read on.

legibility is incredibly important in work, both written and in art or comics. Did you ever notice that comics with extremely text rich speech bubbles are harder to read too?

Crazy how it never occurred to Mari she could've said "I'm just not in the right place to have a relationship right now" and then we could've had insane Adrien trying so hard not to cross a line but Mari who still likes Adrien knowing he likes her keeps blurring them accidentally leading to Adrien following her lead the same before both pull back remembering the boundary she set but still pining and the cycle continues where they are being WAAAYYYY too intimate with one another and everyone around them is like what the hell is this better or worse than before

i was feeling a little nostalgic and so redrew some old miraculous kiddos :] i think its crazy how much my art has changed in 2.5 yrs. especially:

anyways. yeah keep drawing 2.5 years is a really long time but the difference between even just a few months is so vast!! I just love that artists can VISUALLY SEE these things that's such a plus

Note: I don't know Worm super well but if anyone knows if there's like, literally any official imagery at all I can use even if its like an extremely basic stock cover photo, I'm preferentially using things like that over fan art. But for now I've used the piece of fan art for Tattletale that's on the Worm Wiki, which they credit as coming from Sawitry

ADRIEN ALL THE WAY. Seriously, the entire plot ultimately revolves around his conception, around his family. I think one of the best things seasons 4 and 5 did was to start actually focusing on him more.

PROPAGANDA:

Eli! He is one of the most overlooked characters in Veronica Mars, I think, even though he is one of the most complex, torn between his friendship, his desire to do better, and a system that put him in a bad spot and won't let him leave. Veronica's perspective in the show is already that of an outsider, but still someone who had an in with all the rich kids, ran in their circles and so on. Weevil's perspective is going to be completely different.

I think it'd be kinda cool if the Season 5 finale, Shadybug and Claw Noir come back and see the Statue in honor of Gabriel.

Because like to them, this makes perfect sense. They know each other's identities at this point, so maybe they know Betterfly's identity too. And they just go on and on about how cool it is that he's a hero here too, how noble and self sacrificing he must be in every universe to keep fighting evil, no matter the cost to himself.

And Chat Noir has to just grin and bear it as if the last time he interacted with his dad wasn't Gabriel locking him up in solitary confinement while Adrien suffered akuma induced nightmares. Like Gabriel wasn't the reason that Chat Noir couldn't be at Ladybug's side at the final battle, like he always said and promised he would be.

And Ladybug through gritted teeth has to agree with them, as though Gabriel wasn't the cause of her nightmares, the reason she got so stressed she almost broke down. Like Gabriel didn't take advantage of her mercy and kindness at the last moment, leaving her to shoulder the burden of the mess and all the secrets he left behind.

And so even though the two of them are with their partner, the person they trust so implicitly, and with literally another version of themself, they feel so alone, because no one else could understand.

here’s something i’ve been working on for the past few days. it’s a bit of a mess but I might as well share it…

On the whole the networks aren't fundamentally different. It's still a train, you get on. No barriers or validators on platforms that you get/need to deal with. By now basically everything is nice modern trains, although wheelchair accessibility is a concern (but there NS isn't necessarily way better).

Besides the obvious differences (train journeys can and do exceed four hours; when you look out the window, you might sometimes see landscape), the big difference is that the infrastructure feels more run-down and cheap (because it is) and more fragile (because it is).

Dutch train stations are just generally in a better state of repair than german ones. Nothing major, but they are cleaner (even the track bed), and they always have nice destination signs where a german one may have a single useless LED line somewhere.

The other thing is that the german network is great at accumulating delays. You enter a train at the edge of the country and everything seems fine, but then it takes a bit here, a bit there, there is a delay around Hamburg, there is a delay around Cologne, the train needs to get diverted via Frankfurt to get a new train driver, now it needs to wait for its platform to be free in Mannheim, and eventually they decide to cancel it in Freiburg instead of letting it continue at least to Basel.

Similarly, if you are on the platform, it's common to see the train be five minutes late, then ten, then twenty, then thirty, until it finally arrives. And in some instances the timetable is just completely irrelevant, e.g. regional trains in NRW in the evening. Forget about it.

There is rarely the one big catastrophe in your journey on the german network. I've been travelling it for years and I've only been in a train accident once (the ICE lightly bumped into a gate at walking speed). It often works with few delays (but not often enough). What you instead get is lots of small delays due to signal issues or track works or whatever that add up, and just like how hurt people hurt people, delayed trains delay trains.

Anyway, that's probably useless ramblings, so one bit of practical advice: Germans love their seat reservations. Depending on the train, they're usually displayed in the display over the window, but sometimes the displays are built into the side of the seat's head rest. Germans (including me, sorry about that) will get annoyed if you sit in their seat, even if other seats are available. If the display says "ggf. freigeben", that means you may have to get up if someone says "this is my seat". Usually that happens because the floppy disc with the seat reservations wasn't available on time.

Also, if you have a seat reservation and are sitting on your assigned seat, you can sometimes (but not always, not sure why) check in with the DB Navigator app, and nobody will check your ticket.

You should get this app even if you don't buy your ticket with it, by the way, it has all the timetables and real-time data for all the trains, and also timetables and routes for all trams and buses in Germany, and furthermore all the trains in all of Europe.

But that said, if you just assume that it's like the Netherlands, except with more delays but no stupid queues at the validators for "overstappen", then you'll be fine.
