✧witch tips✧

i’ve been practicing witchcraft on and off for the past 3 years and i really want to share some of the tips and tricks i’ve learned to help other witches, especially new witches, so here we go:

- i’ve got two words for you. bead. organizers. go to your local craft store and buy one for like 3 bucks and you have a really spacious way to organize any of your witchy materials. sure glass jars and bottles are cool, but save those for spells or particularly special ingredients.

-birthday candles and tea lights are my best friend. I’m still partially in the broom closet, so i have limited time and space to work with when practicing my craft, and these bad boys are absolutely perfect. plus birthday candles come in colors which you can incorporate into your spells

-mortar and pestle. i recently bought a one and it has improved my craft by like 500%. to new witches who are trying to figure out what they should purchase first, i highly recommend getting one. make sure you buy one that’s made for cooking even if you dont wish to consume anything you put in it, most sold in specialty shops aren’t effective at grinding(they’re too smooth). plus it just helps you feel more connected to your craft, which is always a bonus.

-scented candles. like, it’s a completely inconspicuous way to practice witchcraft. burn a rose scented candle for love magic, an “ocean” scented one if you’re a water witch, a sage one for cleansing, the possibilities are endless. (and even for ones that are combinations of several scents, just google the magickal correlations of the individual ingredients and see what they mean to you when they’re combined, color of the candle can also play a role in it if you want it too)

-cotton swabs/Qtips. if you reuse small containers these are a life saver, it saves you the time of having to wait for them to air dry. you can also use them to spread spells or etc, you can even use them as wands if you’re on a super tight budget(both air and cotton have correlations to air, and wands are generally considered instruments of the air)

-fire salt. fire salt is one of the first things i made when i started practicing witchcraft, and honestly it’s one of my favorites. fire salt is just salt combined with spices like pepper, red pepper, cinnamon, or anything else you consider to correlate with fire. you can use fire salt as a substitute for live flames in a spell, or you can fill a dish with it if you want to honor/pray to a deity but you can’t light a candle.

-hemp string/twine. for witches on a budget, hemp string can be found for really cheap at your local craft store, and it makes any project you’re working on feel 100% more witchy. and it’s not just for aesthetic purposes, hemp string tends to be less processed than other types of string, which will make everything you craft with it feel more natural and connected to the earth.

-digital grimoires/book of shadows. this blog is mostly text posts for a reason. it’s not that i dont love all the aesthetic witchy pictures on tumblr, but for me personally it helps to have a ton of information in one place without the distraction of pretty pictures. plus tumblr allows you to easily find posts related to one subject through the tags, and since I’m an extremely lazy witch, i prefer this to handwriting everything.

♥♥♥i didn’t add a lot of stuff since i was trying to keep this post to a reasonable length, but if you have any questions please feel free to ask me! and if you have your own tips please add them on since I’m still learning myself lol. ♥♥♥

Witches’ Tools

Series created during Inktober, focusing on different tools used in witchcraft.

Potion for Inner Peace, Healing and Tranquillity

Sometimes in life, you need quiet, you need your own space, you need tranquillity and stillness but certain circumstances may keep you from achieving this state of mind. This potion is very simple to make, the ingredients are very easy to come by. I’ve used it lots of times in the past with absolute success. I tend to use this potion when I have exams or when I’m very stressed and I need some tranquillity in my life. It’s very basic, all beginners can try it. Alright, so here we go.

You will need

  • 1 bowl
  • rosemary
  • sage
  • calendula oil (optional)
  • chamomile
  • melissa/Lemon Balm (it’s the same)
  • holy water (optional – you can make your own)
  • a sigil (contained here or I encourage you to create your very own)
  • a glass or bottle (for your potion)
  • water (preferably Spring Water)

That’s all you need! Now let’s begin brewing!

The process is going to be step-by-step so that everyone can benefit from this.

1. Light a few candles, light some incense (here I’ve lit lavender incense) and sit down. Meditate for a few minutes or for as long as you wish. Calm down. Relax yourself and your body. Observe your thoughts but do not react to them. Focus on your breathing and relax. Breathe in. Breathe out. Visualise a scene that makes you feel calm and serene inside. You are going to be pouring your intention in to this very potion, thus you must make sure that you are calm whilst you are making it.

2. By now you must have achieved this state of mind. Don’t work or think hard just let it come to you. Let it flow to you. Now, pour some water in to the bowl. Don’t rush the process. Be gente. Be calm. Be still. Be at peace. Now, take a pinch of rosemary (just a pinch) and throw it into the bowl. Do the same with some melissa, sage, and chamomile (and calendula oil if you have any).

3. After you do this draw this sigil on a piece of paper, or make your own.

4. Now take a few moments to ground and centre yourself. Release your emotions, your thoughts, your problems. Release and just Be. Nothing else exists right now. Only you and yourself. You and your tranquillity. You and your quiet. The quiet you deserve to have and experience. Now hold this sigil and focus on it. Focus all your attention on to it. Nothing else exists but you and this sigil of healing, ease, flow and tranquillity. Focus on your breathing now and then repeat these words.

I am calm.

I am serene.

I am still.

I am quiet.

I am at peace.

Everything flows easily and gently towards me.

I am like water. I am like rain. I am like a river. I only flow. I never remain stagnant. My emotions and I are always flowing. I am always growing. I am always flowing. I am always at peace.

I am calm. I am serene. I am still. I am quiet. I am at peace.

5. Now bless your potion, grab the bowl with your hands and pour your intention in to the potion. See yourself calm. Feel at peace. Be still.

6. Visualize the image of the sigil moving in to the potion. Flowing.

7. Close your eyes and meditate for a few moments. Meditate on how calm you are.

8. Strain the potion and your potion is now ready!

Ideally, in my country, we place the potion somewhere outside at night so that The Moon can “see” it and bless it. We do that for 3 nights in a row (Waxing/Full Moon). Before the sun rises, we take it back inside and we place it in a dark place (a cupboard for example).

How do I use this potion?

Whenever you are stressed or anxious, grab this potion and anoint your forehead with some of it. Anoint your palms and your temples.

ENJOY!
